The fact Osprey himself addressed the low ratings and accepted the criticism. And Khan openly lied on Fox TV is alarming. It's not the wrestlers fault for low ratings, it's only Tony Khan, he could control guys like Bucks and Jericho but he ain't willing to.
The angles with The Bucks, Jericho and Timeless Toni, while not exactly compelling, are the only ones I find the least bit entertaining. Everything else is incredibly boring.
Jericho would probably threaten to quit if Tony tried to control him. He is the biggest crybaby in all of wrestling which is really saying something cause they all cry these days

They got a little over 600k this week and called it a “comeback” not even trying for 700k anymore. The days of a million viewers are long gone.
The official excuse for the poor rating was also that Big Bang Theory wasn’t the lead-in. Which checks out with that increase this week. But how is that a good excuse? That the only reason they have more than that pathetic number is that people are just leaving the tv on after BBT?
In 5 years, Vice presents Who Killed AEW? Tony and Bucks would blame it was all Punk, WWE and Triple H. They'll blame everything and everyone under the sun except the person who was really responsible - Tony Khan.
They'll blame Black Panther next

Swerve is the perfect example of a wrestler being the flavour of the month, and why you shouldn't always pull the trigger on making them the top guy. By all means feature them more often and give them a solid midcard title run to test how over they really are, but don't rush to put the world title on them just. My opinion at least...
Swerve isn't the problem. He's a unique talent. The problem is he isn't booked as a big deal. He's a TK afterthought.

What happened?
People really wanted AEW to succeed. So they gave it a shot. They took into account that a new promotion is not gonna get things right from the start, so they allowed for some time for AEW to iron out the wrinkles. But now the time has come for the final judgment, and more and more people realize that this is it. This is as good as AEW's gonna get under Tony Khan. But now they can say they gave it plenty of time and it still went nowhere.

This is sad. I don't want AEW to fail and go out of business. I want AEW to grow, to succeed, and become another major wrestling promotion just like WWE. I don't want WWE to be the only major wrestling promotion. I think the more major wrestling promotions there are, the better. When WCW went out of business, wrestling got boring because there was no competition. Yes, I know we had TNA after WCW went out of business, but TNA still had a lot of growing to do, but unfortunately, TNA tried too hard too soon to go up against WWE. Now we have AEW, and sadly they're making even bigger mistakes than TNA did. We need AEW to be a big time promotion that can legitimately compete with WWE, but unfortunately, Tony Khan, the Young Bucks, and Dave Meltzer are preventing AEW from becoming a major promotion. I don't want any wrestling promotion to go out of business. I want there to be competition, otherwise things will get boring with just one wrestling promotion.
It doesn’t hurt to want it, but you aren’t going to get it. Wrestling is such a niche product as it is and WWE is too much of a behemoth for any new company to compete. They spent decades cornering that market and a bad indy wrestling company run by a mark billionaire isn’t going to grow or become meaningfully successful. Sorry
I think that's what we all want but it's not happening. Why? Cause AEW can't and won't draw the casual wrestling fan. There is more to being a national wrestling promotion then just the wrestling. Just the wrestling is mostly what AEW focuses on. The story lines are just as important as the wrestling but the AEW marks refuse to accept that. They're too busy slobbing all over meltzer's knob.

The guys are right about MJF and the thing is he has no one to work with. Good for him to take Khan’s money but he’s going to be miserable until he leaves that POS company.
There are some people for MJF to work with. Unfortunately, Tony Khan has no idea how to use them correctly. MJF could have had a Samoa Joe rematch, Edge (if he didn't get hurt), Christian, Will Ospreay, Jon Moxley, Brian Danielson, Okada, and even Claudio. But again, that's if Tony knew how to use them right.
All WB should do is become the Big Bang Theory rerun channel, 24/7; and they would have huge ratings and big advertising revenue. AEW a revenue drain on WB’s profits/loses.
Can any wrestling buffs out there tell me a point in time where a wrestling promotion brought in 4 major signees, all established stars, and immediately took a nosedive in ratings and dropped even lower on attendance? Legit question.

Ospreay is a crowd favorite but his matches aren't drawing money cause he just got there The fans don't know him well enough yet.
Plus during Forbidden Door season their ratings go down every year cause they just start featuring people we never saw before so casual fans don't care

They had a deep narrative with Swerve being a heel they could've fed off of. But when they turned him face, it was like starting from scratch. Build up that narrative, or let him go deeper as a heel, then put the belt on him.

Big Bang Theory runs over 1 minute every week which feeds AEW's first quarter with near 1 million every week. So yeah, when BBT doesn't open the show, it hurts 😂
I love the AEW PPVs, they are all world-class and showcase top wrestling. Their weekly shows are just ZZZZzzz and feel like filler content. 100% missable.

Westminister Dog Show, a popular rerun of Golden Girls aired, It rained outside, it was National Hot Dog Day, Jumanji was the lead-in instead of Big Bang, A Lionel Ritchie concert, Eleanor Roosevelt's birthday......
A lot of times to catch AEW I'll watch it later on during the week same way I do with the NWA, ROW, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and JPC Wrestling.
Because of DVR I can watch my wrestling anytime I want.
I know it won’t solve the ratings problem and it will only make it a tiny bit better. But make a rule if you mention WWE or a WWE wrestler in a promo you fined and possibly suspended.
This may get me a content strike. He has the wrong people in his ear. He has no good booker, no good EVPs and no one he can truly trust. It’s killing me on the inside, let alone his business. It’s okay if you block me. I wanted this to work.

The thing that gets me is Tony has Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Jeff Jarrett, and for a while he had Regal. That’s a booking committee dream team. Sting may be retired from the ring but you can’t tell me he couldn’t play a useful role backstage.

Tony loves his legends as a fan but he believes he knows more than all of the legends when it comes to the business. He is grossly unaware of reality and his views are the reason no one on the roster pays much attention to his payroll legends.

I don’t think it’s that hard to decipher. I still remember their very first match. Cody vs. Dustin. It was admittedly presented as if it were a real combat sport. It was gritty, simplistic, yet overflowed with story and emotion. A slow, old school prodding match, emotion, a FEW, high spots, and then the pay off.
I remember being so pumped for AEW because of the presentation alone. I didn’t feel insulted or like it was geared to 8 year olds and soccer moms like WWE at the time.
Now look at AEW. It’s all finesse. No grit. Nothing is a slow burn story. Everything is presented as some flimsy sarcastic story, and there’s 50 high spots per night.
They mean nothing. Their title means nothing. Their biggest by far, MJF, just came back and now he means nothing. They’ve buried their biggest return sans Punk.
I got on the bandwagon to watch Cody vs Dustin, Jericho (at the time), and supposedly a new way of presenting pro wrestling. Now it’s late stage WCW levels of sterile and has zero juice.

I never cared about Meltzer and what he had to say but at one time it at least made sense. Yeah it's just one guy's opinion but it was at least a somewhat educated opinion. There ain't no way Tony's not paying him to put AEW over.

Nobody who watches Big Bang watches AEW… there is an overlap in the data recording, not in the eye balls… the first quarter numbers are always skewed and all Tony has done spending his entire time in TV trying to manipulate the way people interpret that first number is work himself into not understand how to start his show… and it unravels from there.
Done is a “numbers guy” in that he likes playing with numbers, but whether he understands those numbers or not is a completely different conversation

They try using the lead in bump as a way to push specific people, but then at the same time they use the fact that those segments are the high number segments to justify how those same people are a "draw."

A couple of years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Texas got the news, and decided to accpet it.
When Texas accpeted the Proclamation, they declared it on June 19th, 1865. Eventually thatbday got declared as "Juneteenth."
It basically celebrates nothing.
Slaves, only slaves in rebelious states btw, were emancipated on Jan 1 1863.
Technically slaves in the Union states, and they did exist, were not freed until the passing of the 13th.

Im not an AEW stan by ANY means, but the ratings for this week's Dynamite were exactly the place they were 2 weeks ago (680k). So one of the excuses, no matter how wacky they sound, were actually true.

Have you seen his follow ups? I remember his initial reaction pissed me off enough to turn it off. He somewhat apologizes and clarifies his stance later. Wasn't much better, but maybe worth forgiveness.

AEW is not "need to watch" wrestling. You just have to read what matches are going to take place and 90% of the time you can figure out who is going over. There are no storylines taking place to build interest or even create interest, and it's the same wrestlers over and over. I don't want to see Orange Juice or Jericold ever again. Obviously from ratings, many people feel the same way.

Take away the first quarter hour due to the big bang theory TV show lead in, and that's your average viewership. It's not good. And for some aew fans to blame it on not having the big bang lead in id downright comical. So you need a doggon TV show to give you good ratings?
