      How so? With a traditional pile driver your strongest part of your body, your legs provide the safety.
      With the tombstone you can get more separation from the mat but it's all upper body strength holding the guy up.

      @@EclecticBuddha with the Tombstone u protect the guy by his head between your thighs so it's easier to judge where his head is at. Also falling to your knees is more safe than falling on your ass. Yes u need the upper body strength to hold him there but that's most moves in wrestling.

    I think the Brain Buster is more dangerous than the Pile Driver. The way Koko B. Ware used to do it, though he called it the Ghost Buster. The wrestlers doing it now are dropping their opponent on their shoulders which looks more like a Suplex, maybe that is why they are allowed to do it.

    The Piledriver was the greatest thing that ever existed as a kid. Your brother, sister, cousin, best friends.... victims of your might! But once you grow up, you realize just how incredibly dangerous it was. And make no mistake: there were a lot of armchair wrestlers, overzealous amateurs, and even (especially) kids who got hurt trying to perform that move with little idea of the risks. I performed many of them growing up, and it's no wonder I didn't hurt anyone.

    The regular sit out piledriver like Harley Race did it, wasn't at all dangerous. The wrestlers head never even came close to hitting the mat, his shoulders are supported on the thighs of the wrestlers giving the piledriver. It actually hurts the guy giving the piledriver more that the guy taking it, because he comes down on his ass and tailbone.

    I invented a double underhook powerdriver. Pedigree position. Pull opponent up over one shoulder by the arms. Pull down into jumping double underhook pilededriver. Did it in the yard in IYHWA, HVWA, SCWS and other big aussie yard feds for 10 years and never hurt anyone. Did a comeback this year, did it again. Still sidnt hurt the guy. Even gave one to Kyle Fletcher and Robbie Eagles.

    Memory tells me they banned the move because kids at home were hurting each other. Every now and then this comes up, and no one seems to recall kids at home were being hurt. Vince was smart to ban the move if that's the reasoning. And, if that's the reasoning the continued ban is still smart. 10 year olds don't understand protecting each other, they just see what the move appears to be and do it for real.

  • @DoneRandomLee
    @DoneRandomLee Před 28 dny

    The thing is, the piledriver has a infamous aura around it that people know it can be a career ender. To me it should be a banned move in kayfabe for multiple reasons. One it gives something a heel can do to sneak in and you have a move that people can use to injure the opponent. To me one of the biggest annoyances of aew recently was trent beretta did a piledriver on the steel stairs and orange cassidy still was moving. To me that should have had orange cassidy out for weeks and if not then he'd be in a bunch of medical tape and neck brace to try and heal faster. Another reason to ban the piledriver is it is overpowered. Why do a powerbomb when you can do a piledriver that does more damage and is less chances to reverse. Why do a tombstone style facebuster where they jump back and drop them on their knees when you can just do the tombstone piledriver? Have piledriver moves (holds where your opponent's torso is lifted upside down vertically before being dropped on the top of their head or back of the neck) are banned so you are doing verticle suplex rather than a brainbuster, you are doing a powerbomb rather than a piledriver, and gives the ddt spike sell more importance because it is a semi piledriver in effect but goes around the rules because they're not being held upside down before being dropped

    I grew up on Mr Wonderful doing it, and treated as a killer move, but Im fine with it being banned, the risk from it as seen with Austin, inverted or not, is to great to chance. The faster pace of today, and rushing through sequences at times, one slip up, you are paralyzed. Its all a risk, but no reason to not remove some things if proven to be really crippling when gone wrong.

    Pile drivers are safe if the person doing it knows how to protect the opponent. The trick is during impact lifting up the legs, so the opponent's head is clear of touching the mat. Good examples are: Josh Alexander's C-4 Spike, Sami Callahan's Cactus Driver 97 or Eric Young. A bad example is when Rey Fenix hit Jon Moxley twice wrong with his thighs flat on the mat.

    my uncle says, which isn't the way i like to start a sentence but so be it, that it was likely banned because it is no longer a high spot or at least the business stopped treating it as one. so you have a move with a fairly high degree of difficulty where a mistake can be career if not life threatening, that really has little value. so rather than risk guys using it 5x's a match it was banned ... which makes some sense
    and it wasn't banned in the sense watts banned the top rope moves for the sake of the work. vince banned the move as an almost direct result of stone cold's neck injury at the hands of owen hart

    8:32 on about WWF/E taking out their own development territories is a great point.
    My guess is WWE thought by starting up NXT they could monetize their training process by televising and promoting it--essentially making money out of a minor league while raising their new talent. A win win perhaps as far as the office was concerned.
    That said, I'm sure NXT is very competitive, not only for new spots when moving up to WWE's full time roster, but also to keep from falling down and out of NXT and into the indies or another promotion. NXT probably has a per capita profit margin quota in mind for each wrestler and they are not going to shovel money into someone who doesn't seem to be drawing/progressing.
    My guess is Shawn Michaels is ultimately responsible for this but, like Dutch said about HHH doing booking, Shawn is probably busy working with people in ring and someone else is running the financial numbers.

    Lets face it, WWF/WWE is about a bunch of jumping bean gymnastic fruit loop stuff. none of "todays" wrestling moves would actually work in a real fight. The great thing about the good old days in wrestling (territories) was that most of the wrestlers looked and carried themselves like guys that you might actually run into on the street or in a bar. The fan could identify with those guys at least to an extent. Todays wrestlers look like pansies that spend all of their time in the gym practicing tumbling and eating health food.
