** Yup, the drill was in reverse for a minute!! Hey, life happens! Sometimes you just need to laugh!!! **
Found a way to run a HIDDEN cord to charge my phone while using it!

Thank you. Thank you. All these many decades, I have had my hidden secret exposed that I also have, like pretty much every one else, tried to plug in an ext cord backwards, tried to put a key in upside down and been frustrated by a drill bit that won't drill because I have the drill in reverse. It is nice to know even the best of us can sometimes get backed up on it. :).
An excellent video. How many of us have gone with a dead cell phone because we did not have this? You probably could have shown how you cleaned up the burrs and put the grommet in. I'm sure someone will recommend that, thinking you did not. On mine, I just put a little dab of RTV in the hole.
Also, some might think that the small indent under the seal could be used for bringing out the cord. While it probably could be, it is probably best to leave it as the heat buildup vent that I think it was intended to be. It gets mighty hot in there if no place for the heat to escape.
Love your sense of self-deprecating humor. Makes watching your videos so much more enjoyable than watching other straight foreward, boring, dry how-to vids.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you Ryker Parking Only! You made me feel better about my mess up! Yes, life happens! We all mess up at one time or another, I just happen to have done it for the world to see....and comment on! LOL Have an awesome day and thanks for your support!!
It appears that you had the drill in reverse based on the rotation in the video.
OMG you are so right...I guess at that point it didn't matter because it was out of battery! lol
Yeap she had it in reverse....LOLLLLL
It happens all the time with me....Beth great job it is my project for this weekend.
Adding a rubber grommet on the hole will also ad protection to your charging wires from getting cut and seal up the hole.
Thanks for the great suggestion!!
A few thin black zip ties to snug it all up to the switchgear cable (for indicators and horn) and you will have a nearly invisible installation.
Perfect solution!!
That drill shouldn't be smoking! Holy cow! Dewalts usually last longer than their batteries. Thanks for the cord idea and the install video.
Hey Kevin!! Yup, think I broke it! lol
After reading all the replies. I took the glove box out drill the hole and put a rubber grommet. Then ran the cord along the wires. Works great. Thanks Beth the the 💡.
Nice job! I like the way you think!!
I did mine the lazy way... I bought a flat USB cord from Amazon and basically did all the routing the same as in your video from there. I was a little paranoid about leaking if I had done any drilling.
I thought about rain getting in there as well. I might seal it up...even with some heavy duty tape...incase I need to swap out the cord one day.
Throw a little caulk on where the cord goes through the box and it will be water tight again.
Great idea! I thought about even using some heavy duty tape, incase I need to replace the cord one day.
You should cable tie the cord to the other cords coming up from inside the center and to the handle bar to make sure you have enough cord for turns and for cord security.
Absolutely! Great idea!
Great way to get power to you phone from the glove box without any major wires running out. What i did was similar but i was wiring the amplifiers for my speakers and what i did was remove the glove box then while i had it out i removed the double USB connector and ran my positive/negative to the the rear of the USB to power my boss amplifier that only turns off when i power down the bike which is what you may want to save your battery :). The drill point was directly under the round double USB connector. Its a cleaner look for those that want to run either a USB or 12v power to the USB aux. Just something i did and it worked as well. Thanks again for posting these awesome helpful videos!!!!
Thanks so much for your detailed comment! I love when people post different ways to get stuff done. It gives others options to figure out what works best for them. Much appreciated!
As always, great job! The smoke was a bit concerning. Be safe!
Thanks Wendy, will do! You too!
I have watched every video you've posted and don't even own a Ryker. Retired rider but will own a Ryker before I completely hang it up for good!! This is my first post and noticed right away the drill was in reverse. One factoid for you that is totally unrelated, there is a reporter on MSNBC that could be your twin sister. Her name is Neera Tanden. Keep up the informative videos........later
Yup, I messed up!! I thought it wasn't working because it was just low on battery! I guess I look a little like Neera Tanden, it's hard to see myself in someone else. lol
Wow! Even in reverse the drill shouldn’t smoke like that! 😂 Nice neat little install though. Loved the intro with the tangled wire 👌🏻😁. Hope you’re well Beth and that the temperatures are beginning to drop. Ryde Safe and stay free on three 🙏🏻
Thanks George! No relief here until late October early November! UGH! Stay well my friend!
Thanks Beth thanks for the video, you went through a lot doing this one.
Still had fun! Thanks for watching!!
Great idea!! Thanks for sharing!
That smoke from the drill was crazy though! 😳
I know right!! lol
Ryker Rydes I was cheering you on the whole time though! Like “come on, drill! Hang in there! Just a little more!!” 😆
@@RykerChick You are too funny!! I was soooo annoyed, but then realized it was funny and made for good content!
That was a good one. The world's dullest bit and the world's hardest plastic. It worked!!
Thanks Sam!!!
Oh no! You let the smoke out...
Maybe it's time we invented a double-sided drill bit ?. You have it in reverse Dear Lady.😂😂😂
Funny guy
Hi Beth, very neat installation. You pop those panels off like a pro. Wish they had wireless usb device chargers, that’s my speed.
That would be cool!
Nice video on hidden wire I will be doing that for the wife’s cord.. Can you tell me what review mirror you have on there? Is it suction cup or double sided tape mounted and do you like it? Thanks Dave
Hi Dave!! Here is the link to the mirror video: RiderScan Install and Review (as seen on a Can Am Ryker) czcams.com/video/mNd15bLvTr8/video.html It is supposed to be taped on, but I zipped tied it instead. I like it, but I really don’t rely on it. I use it mostly for vlogging so people can see me.
Beth, another great video and an easy way to run the USB cable to the bars. I would done it the harder way and pulled out the fronk and unplugged a USB cable made a splitter and run a cable up to the handlebars from there but I am good with electronics.
Wow that would have been a much better way to do it!! Next time, I'll ask you first!
@@RykerRydes It is easy sitting back and come up with a different way to do things.
I've watched several of your videos and I'm really in between of getting a Ryker, or Can am Spyder. Your videos, makes me want a Ryker. What made you purchase the Ryker, over the Spyder?
Great question! It really is all about preference. I like the spiders a lot, but when I sat on a Spyder, I knew I was home! lol. It just felt right! The Spyder is a lot better if you are planning on going on more long term trips. Just more comfortable!
@@RykerRydes Not to mention the Rykers are cheaper.
Thank you so much Beth!! It was soooo easy
Thanks Melissa!!
Nice job as always.
Thank you so much!
Great idea! Thanks Beth! 👍
You bet!!
Curse you Beth. I bought a 900 yesterday and have purchased so many mods... ooohhhh mmmyyyyy i will be using all your videos. :)
Yup, I get that a lot! LOL.
CONGRATULATIONS on your Ryker!! So excited for you!
Hey Beth,
Great video. Just installed my USB cable on my 20 Rally. Shocked I didn't break any clips! Question - what length cable is everyone using? I used a 10 footer and had to bundle the majority of it in the frunk. I am think a six footer would be better.
Hmm good question. I did it so long ago, I really don’t remember. Trial and error I guess. 🤔
@@RykerRydes I replaced my 10-footer with a six-footer and it was slightly too long. I have seen cords in 4, 6, and 10-feet length so I think a six-footer would be best. If anyone had any success with a four footer, please let me know.
Great simple solution .
Glad you think so!
Your drill is in reverse
OMG you are so right...I guess at that point it didn't matter because it was out of battery! lol
Fun fact as long as you're in there. The two wires connecting to the USB ports is 12V rated at 5 amps - the conversion to 5v for USB accessories happens inside the plug box. Easy to add a breakout connector using spade connectors to provide 12v power for other dash accessories or maybe even add a 12v plug inside the frunk.
Awesome. Thanks for the information!!
Hi could you tell me about your mount for your phone and is it possible to get it on Amazon
Hi. Unfortunately the link no longer works. But here is my video on it:

I now have switched to quadlock and I’m extremely happy.

Hi Beth... thanks for the great video!!! I’m going to do this mod soon...
Quick question tho... I bought the Slingmods tank & fairing bags, keep fighting them coming untucked from under the color panels..so the last time I had to take them off, I broke the pin on the body, front that the panel attaches to... any suggestions on how to fix?
I don't personally have those bags, so I am not 100% sure how they stay on. But, as far as the pin breaking, it is very easy to buy a bag of replacement pins. Here's a good website for parts:
www.cheapcycleparts.com/oemparts/a/cam/5c2f76f587a8661634626b5a/body-side-panels
Ryker Rydes I’m going to have to politely piggy back & say THANK YOU for this link! Guess who cracked their front hood clip when removing to attach their battery tender while waiting on the dmv.🧐 Doh! Ps: this video is 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🦾
I broke one of my fairing clips and found out there were 2 spares located in the bag with my user manual, i had no idea at first what they were for till i put the two together and figured this piece is prone to break easy. I have a 2020 but i assume it may come in the manual bag that its in with a screwdriver in it.
So I found out they’re called dart pins, I ordered 2 from my dealer. There’s a video on CZcams, by ceedee
Pt. 2 removing the broken dart pin, and replacing it using needle nose pliers…I’ll see if I can find it and copy the link, here
That's a great idea, just wondering if water can get in that little hole you drilled?
I am sure it can. I just put some heavy duty tape around it, in case I need to change the cord out.
@@RykerRydes Big fan of 3m WindoWeld windshield mounting tape for waterproofing and mounting most anything. Just rip a piece off the roll, roll it to the correct size, and press it into place for a permanent seal. $20 a roll, but you'd be amazed how often it comes in handy. Just used a couple small balls of it to stop a rattle on my 360 degree mirror.
And yes, you had the drill in reverse.
Hello . What kind of phone mounting do you recommend?
Hi! I use Quad lock. Works great.
@@RykerRydes thanks 🙌🏽
Yep!
Great video! Having a battery die in the middle of a project really makes me grumpy.
I hear you!! Ps when is your next video coming out???
Ryker Rydes l’m hoping to have something out by the weekend.
@@GrumpySpyder-Ryder I'll be waiting!
What phone holder do you have?
czcams.com/video/Ybyk7SbzLOE/video.html
If you look at your video again you will notice a small notch in the frunk close to where you drilled your hole. It's meant for a USB cable to sit on top of the seal but the cable will sink in and the seal will still keep it water tight. I used it to add power to my speakers using both USB ports and hiding the cables just like you did but I zip tied them to existing cables to hide it better.
I just that little notch! Hmm....That would have been helpful to know 48 hours ago! lol Have you tried it? Does it work? Worried it would put too much pressure on the frunk.
@@RykerRydes I have my USB cable running through it but haven't tested it with water to make sure it's still water tight. Hopefully I'll never need to worry about it. I don't plan on riding in the rain and I have a foam spray that I use to wash my bike. No water needed.
Nice 👍
Thank you so much!
Just saying, when you want to go forward don't put it in reverse. 🙂 That's an easy thing to do. You give a lot of great content, keep it up.
Thanks Tommie! Yup, I am thinking it happens to everyone, I just happen to have posted my mistake for the world to see!! LOL
Not sure how to send you a message so, im sending it here. I finally bought my Ryker (Rally edition) and I noticed my lights are fogged up from the inside. Its brand new. Did that happen to you? Is that normal?
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so excited for you!! To answer your question....NO, that is not normal. Your bike should be perfect, no fogging up. I'd bring it in, most likely they did not install the headlights correctly.
@@RykerRydes great 👍! Thank you so much! Will do as you advise!
@@williamperez5537 Also you can always reach me directly through FB messenger or on my FB page: Beth's Ryker Rydes
@@RykerRydes awesome. I will definitely do that! Thank you so much!
There is a hole there already, right on the turn.
You drill on reverse ! 🤣
Yup, mistakes happen!! Lol
@@RykerRydes lol
You should really do a quad lock phone charging mount install video I just purchased a waterproof wireless charger from them and the motorcycle mount and it works seamlessly.
Working on it! lol
@@RykerRydes That’s awesome I love your videos
you were drilling in reverse!
Yes, I know...lol it has been addressed many many times! lol
How do i get to the usb ports? Mine is not even connected to the battery.
You need to take the glove box out and simply plug the usb into the red and black plugs that are there. The dealership should have don this for you during assembly.
@@RykerRydes thank you! I will definitely hook it up today. You are the greatest. Keep doing what you're doing. You're making us ryker riders proud!
Drilling holes in OEM part not designed for them is a huge NO-NO for me. You have access to the 12V supply to the charger behind the frunk, why not just tap into that (properly) and add a second charging module that just stays hidden except for the cable running up to where you want it? Why didn't you get a longer USB cable and run it along with the wiring to the controls? As you showed it doesn't look so great and potentially will get torn out when you turn. No Bueno. Sorry.
the problem that you are drill wrong way with your drill bit.
Yup! Funny!
