  • If you've just got your first 3D printer, this video is for you. If someone you know is confused by why the STL on the card won't print, or has no idea how to level the bed, please send them here.
    This guide takes you through step by step everything you need to get going and start printing. Please explore the rest of my channel for a lot of content on how to get the best out of your 3D printer.
    This Ender 3 purchased with my own money from the Australian warehouse of the Creality official store. It was missing the LCD knob, has a warped bed, but prints well. Pretty typical. It does have working thermal runaway protection, which is fantastic! It also has a V1.1.4 board with A4988 stepper motor drivers.

    If you're brand new and you print the X from this tutorial and are having a hard time scraping it off the bed, heat the bed to 80C and then it will make it super easy to scrape off. I was tearing my hair out and accidentally cut my thumb on the scraper before figuring this out. No one mentioned it anywhere.

      You mean terrible and not clear at all and doesn't work at all
      my cura will NOT slice this X.stl file
      I followed this video to the letter but when I hit slice every single time it finishes immediately and it says 0 grams 0 layers 0 time to print
      I hit preview and I see nothing
      I hit save to drive and it says saved when I look on the drive there is a g code file 1.22 KB
      it won't even slice this file but I tried 3 other files from thingieverse and they slice and preview fine
      this is a HORRIBLE tutorial for beginners because his X.stl file is defective and will not even slice and preview in cura and had me pulling my hair out ,I tried 100 times and it still won't slice this file yet the other files I sliced worked
      I tried to resize it as someone suggested and no matter what size I make it even at 10% it still won't slice
      this video caused me nothing but aggravation trying to figure out why the "X" file will not slice and made me want to give up 3D printing forever , good thing I experimented with cura on my own before trying this tutorial and got some files sliced
      or else I would have probably just sold the printer and given up , I haven't even unboxed it yet but wanted to get familiar with the slicer software first and have some g code to print for when I set it up but this pissed me off so fucking bad I want to give up , I already gave up trying to figure out why the file will not slice for me in cura but every single other file i tried so far does
      he should not be providing this shitty X.stl file that won't even fucking slice in the slicer he is telling us to use especially for beginners because it is extremely frustrating and infuriating and made me want to quit

    REALLY excellent video Mike. Totally agree that bed leveling is the NUMBER 1 issue that so many have, especially with the stock springs. I would mention that sometimes if not able to adjust enough in Z that the endstop might need to be moved down or up slightly to allow for more adjustment. This has been a big issue with the Ender and so many have fought their machines trying to level when they run out of adjustment on their beds.

      @Xana Montana I've just bought an ender 3 and I'm going to assemble it this week, I was waiting for a roll of filament and I still need to clear some space. I think the instructions with the printer are pretty good and there are plenty of videos like this on CZcams that you can pause and re-watch to get a grip of whats required. One thing I picked up from this video was disabling the stepper motors when levelling to avoid power spikes, another tip from a different video by another 3d printer You Tuber was to have a square handy when assembling the gantry (y axis) so it's square to the base and in line with the bed. I think the biggest hurdle is going to be learning how to use the slicing software and the 3d modelling software to produce the models to print

    I have to tell you, of any tutorial video I've ever seen on CZcams, this was WITHOUT QUESTION the most useful! I'd gotten everything assembled and was left with ZERO direction of what to do next. I found your video and initially worried that most of it was going to be assembly but you just time lapsed that part and got right to what I needed and didn't know I needed! Bed leveling and how to troubleshoot it, what sites to use, what apps to use, how to get everything working! Thank you so much for this, you took this daunting "I have no idea what I'm doing and don't know what's next" feeling and solved it so now I've printed multiple objects after getting my bed perfectly leveled based on this video and knowing how to download models and splice them. Great tutorial! Answered virtually all the questions I had to hit the ground running. Well explained and to the point. I have bookmarked a bunch of videos to do some of the upgrades and tweaks you have recommended.
    My only issue has been bed leveling. I did use CHEPs gcode method and when I print his square patterns it all looks great but when I try print your Bed Leveling X pattern I keep getting problems with the rear left corner usually being too high since it will not stick and/or has large gaps. Another strange issue is that the skirt on the front will usually not print. I don't hear any scraping sounds but usually there is no filament or it is translucent like you mentioned.
    I do appear to have been one of the lucky ones since the print bed does looks flat from all angles ( did measure with a carpenters T. ) hot and cold. Kinda stumped but I am gonna go on to try mesh leveling as a possible solution since because it looks flat does not mean it is. Also confirmed the X and Z axis to be squared off as good as it can be.
    Maybe I am making it unnecessarily difficult on myself since I did order a BLTouch I am waiting on to arrive this week but believe manual leveling is good to learn should automatic leveling fail for one reason or another and I don't feel like I am dead in the water until I replace it.

      how do you get the prints off the bed

    • @svg98
      @svg98 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Shaun-hp2yz First I had the magnetic build plate of the Ender 3 Pro, which was really easy to get prints of, but I switched over to a glass bed (for better flatness of the bed), so now I use a spatula. It's quite tough sometimes to get it of, but once you have a little corner slightly up, you can get the rest off easily. It's also good to wait for the bed to cool back down; makes it easier for the print to loosen from the bed.

  • @sdhlkfhalkjgd
    @sdhlkfhalkjgd Před 3 lety +17

    I've watched several setup videos for the Ender 3 and I've noticed that there's not much of a discussion regarding the mechanical alignment of the components. I have an extensive background in CNC machining and I'm generally familiar with the processes involved in setting up machine tools. I've yet to see anyone talk about checking that the axis are physically straight and perpendicular to one another. It seems to me that these factors are relevant to any CNC machine whether it's a 3D printer or a milling machine. Is this that level of precision just never a factor with these? It would seem that one could misdiagnose a problem as being a warped bed when in fact you could have a bent/warped aluminum extrusion or other problem in the structure.

    • @borderline666
      @borderline666 Před 3 lety

      You're right! I had a warped extrusion (Y axis) on my previous ender 3 and it was difficult to find it. I also had to shim the framing on many place so it's perfectly square. I also had a warped bed. I put a lot of time and money trying fixing it and finally decided to sell it as is. I did not liked it how it's made from low quality component....
