Dreaming is by far the best Blondie song
IMHO. BEST Blondie song, better than all the radio hits. It STOMPS. Fan since '78.
This is new wave. We called this new wave back then. A mixture of punk, pop and other stuff.
One thing to consider is in the 70s when theystarted their sound was considered punk music. Their sound is now more pop which just means they were part of making something new that is now the standard.
Blondie was my grandads favourite . He used to play her songs to me when I was a baby but sadly he died when I was just 3 years old . Everytime I hear a blondie song it reminds me of my grandad 🫶
That is beautiful. I hope my grandkids think of me after Im gone when they hear the Beatles.
Still can't believe that she's older than the former president, and probably ran into him at Studio 54 back in the day. Everyone liked them back then but I'm only now truly realizing just how good they were as musicians, individually and collectively. Clem Burke has got to be the most underrated drummer in rock history.
She was already 34 in this video. Everybody assumed she was ten years younger.
My favourite Blondie song ....I was in my 20s in the 80s .They were the the best times,I had a major girl crush on Debbie Harry she is amazing.!
still have an original first pressing of this album. This is by far my favorite Blondie song
Actually Blondie started as a punk band back in the mid 70s and they along with Talking Heads shared the house band title for famed punk club CBGBs for a couple years. Then they decided to be "popular" and moved closer to New Wave and pop in their music output. Great band though. Very tight sound. Debra Harry still is around and even performs now and then, mostly around NYC which has been her/their home base since forever.
Another couple of amazing songs are Maria and Dreaming
"Dreaming" (Official Music Video) BANGER from1979
The best of Blondie's songs. Way ahead of its time too.
PARALLEL LINES AMAZING BLONDIE ALBUM AND OTHERS AS WELL....
One Way or Another. Hanging on the Telephone. Sunday Girl....so much good Blondie on her first three albums.
Atomic was definitely a dance song. Super popular in the clubs back then.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "One Way Or Another" and "Hanging On The Telephone" !!! Bangers!!!
Dreaming is a Blondie banger, too!
@@SharonC225 Yes, "Dreaming" is a favorite and I'm sure Jay and Amber would love it. THere's a good video of them performing it on "Top of the Pops" British TV show. "Hanging on the Telephone" is super too ( though it's a cover and not a Blondie original ).
Its funny Hanging on the telephone was considered a flop when released as a single. It was a huge hit on the dance floors were I grew up
@@glenchapman3899 The original by The Nerves was a flop in 1976. Blondie's 1978 cover reached #5 in the UK.
I saw Blondie in concert a few years ago and Debbie Harry can still belt out the hits!
You need to hit "The Tide is High"; reggae from Blondie!
Blondie... punk-disco pop at it's finest. 😎
You should check out the song 'Maria'. It's much later in her career when she was in her 50s, but I think she's still great
The guitar riff is incredible and how the sound seems to vibrate. I was so in love with her as a kid!
I love Debbie Harry. When she was the biggest female rock artist, her boyfriend got very ill and she put her career on hold to nurse him back to health. That speaks volumes to the kind of beautiful heart and soul she has. She's obviously supremely talented, and stunningly beautiful- -even to this day, but she showed how beautiful she is on the inside too. From the moment I heard that she had stopped everything to take care of him, my admiration for her went through the roof.
I had a girlfriend that worked as a nurse at the hospital Chris Stein was in while sick. (This was years before I dated her.) She told me that Debbie Harry was always at the hospital, basically living there. That she was indeed a caring loving person and deeply devoted to him. Very polite and respectful to staff too. She was a person with a sick loved one, not a rock star, no pretenses or attitude.
yes, i remember that, they both where young by tha time her boyfriend gets ill, he sufers an rare illnes calll vitiligo, by that time they where on the top of the charts, no doubt, Debora Harry is a realy good person, and to this present day her and her boyfriend still together,
Yes, and she is no "dumb blonde" either. Check-out her old talk show interviews. The hosts were often.put off guard because she frequently expressed very deep and well thought out opinions on a variety of difficult political topics
@@luismetal8912 Actually they are no longer together. Her BF ended up marrying someone else and he's got I think 2 kids from that marriage. Debbie remained single after they broke up but she dated others but nothing serious since. her relationship with Chris Stein.
Blondie still making new music. The newest album legit slaps
"Blondie": The Band, DEBBY HARRY, THE Singer.
Everyone not alive then gets it wrong I think.
Thank you!
Yes many mistakenly assume the name Blondie refers to her because she’s blond and the lead singer.
She prefers to be called Deborah
Debbie..
I know I fell in love with Blondie as a kid but this song during Bend It Like Beckham was 🖤
Fade Away And Radiate.. as diverse as Blondie is, it may be the most diverse of all!
They are still touring and Debbie is still rocking at 78. I saw them four times last year.
My favorite Blondie song. The drums! Wow.
"Thick punch to the bass line". "cool strange sound, out of world". New wave/post-punk.
I have to agree with the other comments, "One way or another," is a total gem.💎
"Dreaming" is one of my favorite songs by Blondie. The drums are amazing..
Clem kills it on drums !!!!!
Love Dreaming 🙏. Imelda may does a nice little live acoustic cover on here for BBC radio 2👍
“Futuristic western sound”- so great!
The Tide Is High is a great Blondie cover of a reggae song.
more Pat Benetar! Start with "Anxiety (Get Nervous)", "Promises In the Dark", and "Fire and Ice", "Little too Late", "Precious Time", "I need a Lover", "Painted Desert", "Sex as a Weapon" "Le Bel Age" "We Live for Love" "I'm Gonna Follow You"
My fave Blondie song !
One of my favorites from Blondie! Even better for me is DREAMING! ✌
I LOVE Dreaming! Short but so great!
Wholeheartedly agree.
i know that Blondie song, si a mix of romántico and fin ay the dame time, for me Débora Harry and the banda blondi where ahead of their time, and they Performa allá types of músic rock, disco, balad, pop You mame it, onen of the great banda of allá times
This track was played regularly at a club I used to go to in London called “kinky disco” in the early 90s and trust me when you’ve dropped a couple of “disco biscuits” this track hits it!!❤
"Atomic" is my favourite Blondie song, but their best album by some distance is "Parallel Lines" ("Hanging On The Telephone" is my fave on that).
'Atomic' is One of my favourite Blondie songs. You guys should check out 'Dreaming'! Some of the best drums ever on a song. Clem Burke, the drummer is channeling Keith Moon and going 88 MPH on those skins!
Totally agree, Clem Burke on "Dreaming" is an awesome display of his talent. Obviously, Harry was the star of the band and central focal point, but Burke, in my opinion was the straw that stirred the drink, as they say.
Yes! Atomic is a great song; but my favorite Blondie song is Dreaming. And yes, the drums are relentless.
@@rpg7287 Dreaming is also my favourite! The relentless drums might be why 'Gates of Steel' is my favourite DEVO song!
Fvck yeah he was !!!!!!
Agreed, Clem Burke is an amazing drummer, very underrated
Blondie was “New Wave”! Blondie, Devo, Talking Heads, Suicide, Ramone’s, Cars, etc...
Banger!. Maybe their comeback hit in the 90's "Maria" Next.
Next Blondie song 1999 "Maria!" The group came together to create this wonderful song.
I saw Blondie live around '99.
They did some old songs and Maria
This song came out in 1979. Early New Wave.
Debbie Harry is one of the most beautiful women and she aged well too
One of my favorite Blondie songs!
Love the drums, the guitar riff, and Debbie going real low & singing, ATOMIC.
One of my favorite Blondie tracks. Disco Funk.
The songs were great - that was Blondie's secret. They were written by Debbie Harry & Clem Burke (who were an item at the time). Debbie was also a fantastic front woman. You must check out their earlier stuff - Denis Denis was their debut single that shot them to the top of the charts. I remember seeing them on TOP of the POPS - a British chart show, and thought she was incredible. Another song you should definitely listen to is "Hanging on the Telephone" which has more of their rough, new wave roots.
Debbie & Chris Stein
Hangin on the Telephone is my fave Blondie track.
"The Tide Is High" was originally recorded in the 60's by the Jamaican vocal trio called The Paragons :)
I was a HUGE Blondie Fan in 1978, i was only 7yrs old. this came out i think 2 years later & is my Fav.
Possibly the greatest riff in a pop song ever
Blondie are completely underrated based solely on the varirty of their catalog. They crossed SO many genres.
Original, eclectic, futuristic... it's ATOMIC! I love this vibe, this song, this band... BLONDIE IS AMAZING!
Debbie Harry IS Female Friday: the voice, the style, the cheekbones, the songwriting, and so, so, SO cool. I loved this song from the jump, and it's still one of my favorites. Thank you for the reaction, and thank you for featuring it on Female Friday!
Especially them cheekbones
& she can act! 🥰
How about reacting to some Kate Bush?
@@clivenewman4810 They did - I think it was "Wuthering Heights," "Women's Work," and "Running Up that Hill."
I *think* they reacted to all those.
@@laurabrevitz3944 I only subscribed in May.Hope the reviews were positive.
We Love Debbie Harry She's Still A Force to be Reckoned With. Punk Goddess
My fav Blondie song as well although I do love "Pretty baby" a lot as well ☺
'Fade Away And Radiate' [Blondie]
Atomic is definitely in my top three of Blondie songs. As far as I can see, you haven't reacted to 'Hanging on the Telephone' yet? You might like that. Also try 'One Way or Another' ( strangely upbeat and catchy - despite the subject matter being a bit dark...which I guess is the effect Blondie was going for!).
Blondie - Dreaming!
I saw them last night in Cardiff. It was amazing. The band were brilliant and Debbie Harry was awesome.
I can't believe she's 77.
I’m so glad you have finally reacted to this. As far as I’m concerned it’s the icing on the cake for me with Blondie, a masterpiece. Strangely it wasn’t well received globally compared to their other hits at the time but in the UK it was a huge hit and spent 2 weeks at #1.
Blondie were hugely successful, and deservedly so.
You really should check out "Picture This", which doesn't get the attention of a lot of their other hits.
The song is catchy. The guys in the band are tight. Debbie's singing goes from soft dreamy ballad to gritty rock and you can't help but get caught up in how energetic she is. And this was in the music video era and she's incredibly gorgeous... whilst singing about wanting to "watch you shower"... Oh my!
Blondie is considered a New Wave band, although the styling of their major hits vary greatly. The majority of their catalog has a new wave feel. Blondie perfectly marked time with the New Wave era, which started late in the disco era (their first hit, Heart of Glass, is a disco song) and ended with the rise of rap (Rapture was their last hit).
The new wave/post punk label obviously comes from when and where they came up , with Talking Heads, Television etc at CBGBs etc but they became one of a kind, peerless during that Era for pop masterpiece after pop masterpiece, as did talking heads to be fair, though much as I love TH blondie were another level
Blondie, the Ramones , Talking Heads and Television were the first bands to play CBGBs, so they started Punk, even if the Ramones are the only band that would fit that label now
@@BGNOLA most New Wave bands had their roots in punk.
@@BGNOLA starting punk is debatable, rocket from the tombs were a year or two earlier, as were MC5 and the UK started almost simultaneously, people in many different places all reacted to the stagnation of some parts of the early 70s music scene
@@swfcocs1 yeah I'm talking about punk as we think of it now, though there were the antecedents (I put "Agitated" by the Electric Eels from Cleveland as the first real punk single)
This is my favorite Blondie song. There are so many good Blondie songs to choose from. ✌️❤️
In my top three.
I think Fade Away and Radiate is my favorite.
Rapture
Mine too!
Me too❤❤❤
Mine too. Gia Carangi was in this video ❤
Im 67 and she's still top on my playlist. Saw her live at the LBC and she was stillawsome.
Debbie has a Great voice. Th for the post & your reactions & incite.
Great reaction to a stone cold Blondie classic (though not as popular as some others, it’s a banger). Just so you are clear, the singer is Debbie Harry and she also has her own solo career and has acted some. The band is named “Blondie”.
Saw Blondie play in Ireland back in 2017, just days before her 72nd birthday. She was absolutely incredible.
still has cheekbones that could cut glass
Just to mix it up. Blondie appeared on the Muppet Show in 1980 and did a duet with Kermit, ‘Rainbow Connection’. It’s very different, but very cute and heartwarming. Your kids would love it.
It just made the Top 40 in the U.S. but hit No. 1 in the UK. You can never go wrong with Debbie Harry & Blondie. Clem Burke is one of the greatest drummers in R&R history! LEGENDS!
Burke is so overlooked! Accidents Never Happen is propelled like a rocket by his drumming.
Was big in Australia, heart of glass reached number one here 1979
Best memory of this song. I had just, one year prior to this song coming out, moved into the town where I now live. I was in 5th grade. I met my first new friend when he played this, on the drums, for a school talent show. He was in 5th grade also. His name: Alex Van Halen - No I am joking 😃. I only knew that kid for two years. Found out he could not read music and he never did join the band. But he played this perfectly. The drummer of Blondie is an absolute amazing up tempo player - check out the song Dreaming off this album. He is an absolute beast.
Got to listen to Blondie "Dreaming"❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love to see your reaction to “One Way or Another” or “Dreaming”. “Maria” from ‘99 is definitely recommended too! Remember, Blondie is the band, not Debbie. 😊
Edited for ‘99 not ‘98.
Yes Maria!
@@mysticpizza02 Wait till you see her!
I heard every one of Blondie's hit songs as they came out. I think this is their best song, by far. Better than the later hits. Absolutely groundbreaking, in its sound.
Truth
debbie was the it girl of the early 80´s such a beauty and powerful personality
Club banger! Timeless classic song. Also used in Trainspotting movie soundtrack.
I always thought maybe I was the only one who thought this was one of the best Blondie songs in her catalog but seeing comments similar make me think otherwise now. LOVE this song, so glad you all reacted to it.
Oh my god!! This is my favorite Blondie songs! It doesn’t have the popularity of their other songs they have created, but it is gold. The music, the lyrics, pure poetry!
David Bowie in 200 years will make jaws drop. And not only him. There is no reason at all why not.
This is my favorite Blondie song and so few people know about it! So glad you listened!!!! 🥰
It's very well known in the UK. It went to number 1 there.
You must have been under a rock. This song was a huge hit.
@@onlyme064 Maybe just young. Atomic is my favourite Blondie song too - I love the riffs and the way her voice goes down way low for "atomic".
Literally Blondies most famous song, but go on
Jigsaw …song called
“ Sky High “
The use of an orchestra is phenomenal !
Sometimes I forget just how far ahead of their time Blondie was and how influential they were.
Blondie came out of the New York Punk scene at CBGB’s, they moved to London in the early Seventies where they were heavily influenced by the New Wave movement. This was a definite club banger, everybody up and bopping. ✌️
A big mention for Clem Burke in this track Atomic! Prominent from the very start. Every other instrument hangs off his drumming.
Jay and Amber, thanks for getting back to Blondie. A few others songs of theirs to check out, Dreaming, One Way or Another and The Hardest Part
It's cool how he knows one of the dance moves
Love Blondie!!!
I went to her concert back in 1977 i think and was totally in love with her and nothing has change
I saw Blondie perform in Cardiff Castle last night, this was the song that really got the crowd bouncing.
My favourite Blondie track. Much love from England 🏴
She's just performed at the Glastonbury festival in the UK at the age of 77! Still rockin'
Some really cute early Blondie songs from their first LP: X Offender, In the Sun, Rip Her To Shreds. I think you'd love 'em all! They're deep tracks but great tunes. As for more hits, check out "I'm Always Touched By Your Presence Dear", "Hanging on the Telephone", "One Way Or Another" or "Dreaming"
The Hardest Part is what caused me to go out and buy all the Blondie albums the day after I heard it.
I used to go to a club where the DJ was called Chris "RIP her To Shreds" Bouchard. Oddly, the first song I requested was Rip her to Shreds. When she said that was her DJ name, I didn't believe her.
A couple weeks later I found out she wasn't lying when I saw her name on a flyer for the club.
And "Picture This"!
Don’t forget Dreaming, off the Eat To the Best album. Clem goes totally nuts on that one.
Accidents never happen is another good one to check out...
Huge UK number 1 and the last of their five number 1s in 2 years in 79/80. Filled the dance floors for many years after.
The drumming in this is incredible. Its like a barely restrained animal pulling the rest of the song forward. Exhilarating stuff.
Clem Burke, one of the best drummers I’ve seen live
Clem Burke was incredible on the drums in all their songs. He could sure beat the hell outta those skins !!!
@@robertmiller2633 Just to correct. IS incredible... Its pretty mind blowing how he still smacks those poor innocent drum kits about!
❤❤❤ Blondie and this song! ✨
It was during the Cold War and during this scene it was like, party now because it may be our last. 💃🏼
I used to dance to this song in the dark, with my headphones attached to my stereo. Love this song!
"One Way or Another" and "Dreaming" - you won't be disappointed 🙂
Can't go wrong with anything off their first four albums, Blondie, Plastic Letters, Parallel Lines, Eat To The Beat.
In this video dancing is the beautiful Gia Carangi the first super model from the early 80’s. Unfortunately she died of AID’s in 86. RIL beautiful Gia 🩷
Heart of Glass was my favorite song by Debbie Harry. She was s to 80s artists. I love her.
