Debbie Harry is the only person who could wear a black plastic garbage bag and make it look good. "Eat to the Beat" is such a great album. Bought it on vinyl when it first came out (just graduated high school) and I was absolutely stunned by it. Literally played it until it was shot. Dreaming, Shayla and Union City Blue are some more great ones from it.

Among many firsts that Blondie achieved was that they were the first band to record and release a video album of their lp Eat to the Beat from which Atomic is taken. The video is supposed to be about after blast freaks. It was meant to be the last disco record! The band said the track was lying around like a dead fish until they added the spaghetti western guitar which gives it the distinctive sound. Also she's wearing a trash bag lol.

Hey, Dereck! Fun fact: The "jacket" that Debbie Harry wore in the Atomic video was made out of a bin bag. Also, you are right when you mention the Western movie sound of Atomic because precisely that was one of the inspirations behind Atomic.

Let me ask you, have you heard of Boney M ? They were responsible for some of the best disco songs of the 70's. One of their very best songs is called "Rivers of Babylon", they did an amazing version of it at the Sopot Festival, in 1979. It is truly stunning. Please, please, please, react to it. Totally agree! Atomic is superior to Heart of Glass in my opinion and HOG is already amazing on its own! Atomic followed HOG In the same fashion the album Eat to the Beat followed Parallel Lines and PL being such a massive hit put Eat to the Beat in its shadow a bit, but very unfairly so. Atomic is very modern and progressive sounding for 1979 and I would say it was. more of a proto-techno song and not so much a disco song as many would inaccurately describe it as. It does have more edge and a better melody than HOG just like you stated. I also feel that the album Eat to the Beat is a bit more superior to Parallel Lines overall but I will concede that PL and Eat to the Beat are quintessential Blondie compared to there albums before them and the ones after.
