    I think you should take weekends off, give you time to spend time with family, and also plan out topics for the week, i think it would also help avoiding burn out.

    As a dad gamer, plug and play is key. Really interested in the Ally myself but so far my Steam Deck and Switch are perfect for me.

    As a PC gamer, I would rather spend $400 - $600 upgrading my PC over buying a console that I have to buy new games for, pay online for, spend $70 USD on a game for. However, with the Steam Deck, I get access to my Steam library of over 1000 games. Thus its perfect acceptable for me to spend $400- $600 on a Steam Deck to knock out some of the backlog of indie and JRPGs I have sitting in my backlog. What I don't get is console people coming into the the Steam Deck and building up a library of games without the intention to ever fully get an actual computer. I know a few people who play on console and own a Steam Deck, then are confused as to why its not playing the latest and greatest games at 60 FPS on high settings. I think its just a difference of how each platform base overall look at the Steam Deck. Console people look at it as a new shiny console and PC gamers look at it as an accessory to help in the never ending battle of the backlog.

    For scenarios like RE4 you'd benefit a lot from locking it to 30. If you're seeing [x] FPS, generally just use the quick settings to lock it a bit below where the device can consistently deliver. This has two benefits; one, it will actually look smoother even when the fps is lower, because part of what our eye expects in motion is consistency. You can look at the cinematic standard for most movies which is a consistent 24FPS and looks fine. And two, you will actually use slightly less power, because the device is working less hard. I know this goes against your "don't tweak settings" mantra, but since you're already looking at the FPS counter, it takes like 2 extra seconds and the device is designed to do that well, so why not. Otherwise I agree, FPSmaxing is mostly pointless and you should try to forget about details like that and enjoy the games!

    I love the fact you read and respond to comments and criticism. Like the next time you post a video. I cant think of any other that does that and that is awesome of you.
    Not much to add to the conversation today other than think of the steam deck as a companion piece of tech for PC gamers. Similar to how playstation people may view the PlayStation portal.
    Have a good weekend.

    The ideal situation for a Steam Deck is for an experience that works for console gamers, and the ability to customize, tinker and emulatoon for PC gamers.

    Set the fps limit to 45. It Runs pretty smooth because it's at the half refresh rate for the panel. Most games at mid/low settings will stay at the 45fps still look good and run smooth!!

    • @adds-kz3oc
      @adds-kz3oc Před 7 měsíci +1

      I don't understand why people are obsessed with 45Hz. Yes, it's half the refresh rate. But you can set the refresh rate to anything you want on the Deck, per game. So no need to lose half of the refresh rate. Just lock it to 60Hz or something.

    • @tarellmorris4621
      @tarellmorris4621 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@adds-kz3oc you get better battery life at 45 fps 90 hz vs locked 60 hz. For a portable device, that’s important. Especially if 45/90 is a very smooth experience.

    • @adds-kz3oc
      @adds-kz3oc Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@tarellmorris4621 I understand the benefits of locking the framerate to any number to conserve power. But the original coment mentions it being "half the refresh rate for the panel", which is completely irrelevant as to why 45FPS should be used. Like I said, you can set the refresh rate to anything you want. Also, 45/90 still has greater input lag than 60/60.

    • @tarellmorris4621
      @tarellmorris4621 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@adds-kz3oclike you mentioned, 60/60 has better latency than than 45/90, but 45/90 has better latency than a 30 cap, which is where you’ll land on a lot of more modern games on the deck. RE4 for example. Locked 60 is not attainable and locked 30 is worse than 45/90, which is attainable. This is why we like using the half refresh rate caps these days. Better power management and better latency than locked 30

    Stumbled here cuz the algorithm overlords know i bought an oled. "I thought people who have PCs would rather spend the money on upgrading" yes and no, depends on many factors, like how the rig is holding up. I have a slightly outdated pc running on a 1070ti. It can handle pretty much any last gen game on high(minus raytracing) and most current gen games on medium(i.e. Cyberpunk on a mix of low, medium, and high settings for 60), sometimes dropping to low for unoptimized games. If i were to upgrade, id want to replace my gpu, cpu, moar fans, possible ram upgrade, and if any parts are incompatible, i will need a new motherboard. The gpu ALONE could run more than double the base steam deck. So on one hand, i upgrade my already decent desk gaming experience to great. On the other, i expand my absurd steam library to beyond my desk for the same price as a SINGLE part of my tower. I see it as a console/handheld extension of my pc. Sitting down at a pc to game feels like i have to commit the next few hours of my life. The deck lets me drop in and out as the day allows. I genuinely wouldn't recommend any of these handheld pcs to someone without a library on pc. I wasn't even going to get one until the next gen, i didnt think the hardware to price ratio was quite there, give it a gen... but then oled came out and i said close enough lmao. For real though the value difference when buying the SD between having my steam library for it and not... if you ignoring sales its literally thousands of dollars worth of games.
    If anyone actually read that essay, here is another with a few of my favorite games to play on the deck.
    Lies of P is a sexy 90fps and probably the best modern soulsborne outside of elden ring (lords was good but some of the bosses and enemies were pretty mid in design, and the game relied too much on upscaling for their performance)
    Im replaying all the borderlands games; cell shading on OLED goes hard and B2 is running a solid 90fps.
    Anyone like rouge-lites? Bullet Heavens? Both genres are pretty much flawless across the board on the deck. From Hades to Slay the Spire to any Vamp Survivors clone, none are really resource intensive and run great. Cult of the Lamb, Robo Quest, Death Must Die, and Sifu are in my current rotation
    Arkham style combat games are some of the first i tested on the deck (Batman, Spiderman, Middle-Earth, Mad Max, etc). all play great, 45-90fps.
    JRP Fan? go play P5 Royal. Too much anime? Octopath Traveler is an homage to the traditional fantasy JRPG.
    Im not big on driving games but Forza slaps on the deck.
    No Mans Sky devs actually made a custom input template just for the steam deck.
    I plan on replaying the first Horizon Zero Dawn game before the 2nd finally gets a pc port. damn exclusives amirite?
    Ill end the list with one of my favorite games, Nier: Automata. Ignoring the fan service camera angles and self-destruct, genuinely one of the smoothest action combat systems ive ever played, banger soundtrack, and the best implementation of new game plus ive seen. Story slaps as well but it might miss the mark if ur not into what i like to call "anime bullsh!t"

    Dude the top down view is 👌🏻, gotta love that iPhone Camera. Hope you enjoy RE4, honestly I wish you would’ve bought RE Village my favorite RE game personally mostly because I prefer the story and it’s a title that’s much better optimized than RE4, RE4 would be better suited for a XSX/PS5 to maximize visuals and performance but even those consoles struggle a bit. Nonetheless I’m looking forward to your impressions and maybe a stream?

    Having good desktop rig, ps 5, og switch. Wanted to have handheld went for oled steam deck although I was considering go and ally. But performance wasn't enough for me as I have already large steam library and often than not you will get very good deals on games from steam or other vendors. For AAA I have my rig for other games and AAA prior to 2019 I have steam deck. I just cannot comprehend talking with handhelds in mind about gaming on ally or go with high fps its just nuts (30 is fine with consistent frame but 60 is preferred). Finished gaming bg3 on my pc and I will be playing original sin 2 on Steam Deck (it runs at 60fps). Having desktop I could get by with annoyance of dealing with windows on handheld but it kind of defats the purpose of a handheld.

    ROG Ally, Legion Go, and similar competitors have FASTER hardware, but I wouldn't call it BETTER hardware. You can push them further than the Steam Deck's custom APU, but it's sort of a brute-force way of getting more performance. Up to 30 watts, double that of the Steam Deck. This means better performance, yes, but also more heat production and worse battery life. The Ally gets a worst case scenario battery life of only 40 minutes.
    The Steam Deck is a wonderfully well thought out and balanced device in comparison. Every single aspect of it seems to have a specific and deliberate decision made as to why it is that way.

  • @TaylorDaniels27

    I think you missed the mark by just a tad. The best way to think of a steam deck is that it gives you the freedom to be plug and play or a tweaker. Most people that have used it for awhile understand that the best way to experience the SD is understanding that getting a new game = tweak settings at install and then you are ready for grab and go in the future. I spent probably a day setting up my SD when I go it but after that its 10 mins every time I get a new game. From there on out its just like a switch you grab you play and you get on with life.

  • @SuileDearg

    It sounds like you are pretty interested in the Legion Go but I think it might be a little too early to go and buy another peice of hardware. I not the best person to speak when it comes to spending money but even 1/3rd of that systems cost could bolster your Steam library considerably and the rest could be saved for when the NSW-2 or PS5 Pro inevitably drops. Regardless of the reason to own a Legion Go I'd say just enjoy the Steam Deck for now. I think theres plenty of social discussions to have in relation to the Steam Deck and the console platforms you already own and look forward to them.
