When the 3000 series "launched" and ppl bought crazy scalper prices everywhere I just kept thinking "nvidia must be seeing this and thinking: ok, we can even sell them for THAT prices and people rip them off the shelves"... We kind of showed them that the price that just doesnt matter, at least for enough of ppl to sell out their cards.
pray for amd
Yeh I said the same thing from the start, even told my friends they were idiots for buying 3080's for 1800+ bucks.
The 4090 price is actually not bad. The 4080 price is the one that is ridiculous. Should have been a $899-$999 card.
@@ComdrStew Is really bad the price of the 4090 and there is no excuses, but worst for the 4080 and even worst for the 4080 12GB/4070"TI"....
I had the same thought about the scalpers, I don't blame NVDIA for having higher prices this time around as the scalpers showed that people were willing to pay more for the cards. I wonder if the 4080 also launched at 700 dollars would we just have the same issue as last time with scalpers. Might be different with crypto miners being less of a factor this time, but who knows, we may never see the 700 msrp xx80 card again lol
I can never afford another new GPU anymore. This price gouging prices set by nvidia is just too ridiculous
Been out of the game since Maxwell my friend
NGL. I do not have this problem as my husband and my self make a lot of disposable income. I however refuse to pay these gouging prices. I waited until the day before the 4090 launch and bought azotac 3090ti for little less than a grand brand new on amazon. that same card is now...and again nearly 2000 bucks.
nVidia is still living the crypto dream.
It's not nvdia, it's the scalpers who showed everyone what people were actually willing to pay. Even now you can't find a 4090 at msrp because the scalpers gobbled them up and littered ebay with them.
Yes prices are insane but also material costs have doubled or tripled + inflation?
Crazy how the 3080 was 700$ compared to this new 4080 at $1200 that’s insane.
It is beating a 2000 dollar card (3090ti) now used 1050-1150
Idk.. I think it's still worth it, but next time I upgrade I'll make a near 2x jump. Currently have a 3090
@@xpodx yes, but with that logic GPU's will cost thousands of dollars within a few generations
@@bastiaan0487 I'm okay with that if it is massively better, but I'd like there to be 250, 500, 750 and 1000 options as well.

The way that 6950xt stood up against those other cards and still being way sub $1k is proving to be the actual winner.
Great performance compared to the 4080 and price.
Imagine what a next gen XTX will do, still technically sub 1k.
@@PalladinPoker o trust me I am patiently waiting for that launch
No kidding, just checked amazon and 6905xt is at $1k and the 3090 ti is $1.7k
The difference is an entire graphics card and they're about the same in performance...
@@monkeyofwar6818 Where I am from you can get a 3090 Ti direct from Nvidia, has been in stock for months discounted to about $1200 after conversion.
Due to the "inflation" in Europe, and the prices for AIB cards, I'll sit this one out, 2.000€+ for these is insane.
Biggest IT/everything shop in a country has 4090 gainward phantom in presale for 1 994 .. but yeah, 2k for better AIB 4080 cards is freakin INSANE.... even asking MSRP for xx80 card is INSACE

but you can also heat your house from the flames of a 4090 fire.
@@BeryProduction it's stupid indeed, asus has become a scalper brand here
This is probably the first time ever for me that I am not excited about the new Nvidia cards. I think AMD has earned a new customer next month.
Same. I’m planning on building a new system around April. May go full team red for the first time ever
I wasn't planning on buying this generation, but I'm loving that people are willing to switch when there's a viable alternative and not just being blindly loyal.
Same and I've always been with Nvidia but now that and gonna have same performance with less cost and their temperatures have improved drastically I'll be upgrading my 3070 to a 7900xt or xtx which ever is available and not sold out lol cause for 1000 or even1200 for an Asus one or some shit that's way cheaper than Nvidia
Me as well. However, keep in mind that if NVidia had given fair prices, you would pay the scalpers 1500-2000$ for the 4080. It might get scalped even so.
Same here.
I love the iFixIt kit, and especially your sponsor segment for them! Also, please put the metal into the chart music rotation more often. I love it!
Tf does your comment have to do with the video
I have a 2080 Super and would love to see the performance metrics of 20-series compared to 40-series. A lot of us didn't get a 30-series because of the GPU shortages going on.
As you say, I am happy I feel lucky to have gotten a 3080
Seconded, for many it's like 30 serie didn't exist, and many 1080ti are still running too
Yeah I have a 2070. Usually wait 2 gens regardless for a new card...but 20 series suck at this point in a lot of games. MW2 Im hardly getting 120 fps with lower settings at 1080p on my 2070.
@@Siegefya Yes, it's a shit game and poorly optimized. Don't let one crappy game determine if your GPU is weak though. My 2080 Super eats everything else I throw at it. But like you say, I get around 110 fps tops except in Gulag in Warzone 2.0 and it dips to 70 often so that is depressing. It really is just lazy ass devs though just not taking time to optimize their games.
@@messiahshow see i wasn't even aware that it was poorly optimized, thanks for the information. my 2070 is ok, but tbh I don't know if I can skip another generation...usually I get a new card ever 2 gens, so idk we'll see.
My biggest issue with the price is aside from the FE, you're not finding a card for $1200, most of them are 1400-1500 which is just insane for a 80 series card. They are just pricing the average person out of the market which is sad.
At this point, that new xbox S looks like a steal, an entire system for less than the price of a GPU.
Yeah, I agree with you on that. Its as if NVidia have laid a base price that AIB cannot go down to. Lets just hope the 7900XTX is obtainable at the $999 which will be £1099 in the UK :(
@@mikem9536 Consoles are always a steal, since they are typically sold at cost or even a loss. Problem is if you want more performance than consoles offer, your only option is PC.
It's not really that sad when you can just buy a Radeon card for way less and get more performance. It's only sad if you're too stupid to do so.
@@mrtuk4282 Here's a better idea... Instead of whining about halo-level prices, how about you WAIT for the RX 7800 XT which will probably be about $350 less than the 7900 XT but less than 10% slower. That's how it works with Radeons. If you don't believe me, look up the performance difference between the RX 6800 XT and the RX 6900 XT on TechPowerUp. Then look at the two MSRPs. You'll see that one was $999 and one was $649.
So, instead of crying about how much the RX 7900 XTX is, how about you just buy SMARTER? It's not exactly rocket science you know.
I'm still waiting for AMD because the graphs showed the 6950XT giving a decent fight to a 3090 TI so I'm wondering how strong of a fight the 7900 XTX is going to put up.
Even at a conservative +50% compared to the 6950XT, the 7900 XTX should beat the 4080 in raster pretty comfortably in both 4k and 1440p, but we'll see.
@@toddbair9347 yeah and at a lower price, lower power consumption, current 8pin connectors, smaller size, and more compatability with most peoples setups.
The 6950 beat the 3090 ti on 1440p
@@SpartanArmy117 it's a rly good card if you can find it on special
@@toddbair9347 it does bit them in the prices, a couple hundreds of dollars is a big difference.
I think the 4080 is a great card. It is a beast, with great power efficiency. Sure, the pricing is rather bad, but everybody seems to be considering the US situation. I live in Eastern Europe and here, the price of the last generation never even got close to MSRP - with the mining fever and the scalpers, all gpus were ridiculously expensive. It is nothing new for us. It is also often said that there is no point buying the 4080 because with just a little stretch, you can get the 4090 and it is stronger. Again, might be true in the US, but not in my area. Here, the 4090 costs a good 40% extra over the 4080, that really does not make it a "little stretch" or even a good deal.
I decided picking up a 4080 - for a quite good local price - I play on 1440p, with no plans to go over to 4k anytime soon, so this card is going to be perfect for me for a looong time. I could also put it in my current rig, with plans of upgrading the rest sometime next year. I couldn´t have done that with the 4090. Also, the price difference between the 2 gpus just simply did not justify the 4090 to be a good choice. Definitely not in my region.
Keep in mind MSRP doesn't include tax while prices in Europe do
Exactly. I got the 4080 because the 4090 here in Canada would be $700 atleast before taxes more than the cheapest 4080.
Hey I play at 4K on my 4080, so even if you wanted to go to 4K you'd be fine. I get 75-95fps on Overdrive on cyberpunk with DLSS and FG, while the 4090 gets around 100-120. The 4080 is amazing for 4K and you'd love it.
I agree it's the best alternative to the 4090, Prices have gone up on everything lately don't understand this nonsense about pricing,.

Last year I did 3 builds. Two with a 3080Ti FE, 3090 FE, Asus ROG 6900xt. I'll be doing all AMD builds again in the future after seeing and feeling the difference of what I felt to be true performance of that card over the Nvidia software uplift.
What build (complete pc) would you recommend for a recording studio using Pro Tools, Spectralayers Pro 9 and video processing such as Vegas? Faster rendering in Spectralayers and Vegas would be great.
Looking at the comparative charts, I'm seeing pretty much 50% more performance across the board compared to the RTX 3080. Yet this comes at a 70% higher price.
That's a hard pass from me. I'll be waiting for the RX 7900 XT and XTX reviews. If they deliver close to what's been promised/shown by AMD, it's going to be a much, MUCH better value proposition (with an actually higher performance increase than pricing increase over the 6950 XT).
Honestly have to say I am deeply disappointed by Nvidia this generation. I would've loved to get myself a 30 series GPU but alas the crypto-craze and scammers made that purchase prospect void. It's just now that the 30 series GPUs finally got down to actual MSRP over here. But with the 40 series, Nvidia hiked the prices up MASSIVELY (owing to a good chunk of greed but also because they chose to go with the most expensive silicon they could've possibly chosen) AND then doubled down on scammy tactics like trying to bluff that "4080" 12GB past the consumers at 900 bucks and let's be honest here, compared to previous hardware comparisions between xx90, xx80 and xx70 tiers that chip isn't even a 4070 Ti. These proportions of CUDA cures to the rest of the line-up would traditionally be more in thr xx60/60 Ti ballpark ... and Nvidia fully intended to sell that for 900 bucks before that bluff was called.
No, I'm definately eying the 7900 GPUs. If they deliver on the promises the XTX should be trading blows or even outperforming the 4080 in non-RT performance (and I don't care enough for RT to be paying premium for it) and be considerably cheaper. And if those GPUs disappoint, I'll wait to see what a 7800 GPU looks like or I'll just get a previous generation 30 or 6000 series GPU and save a LOT of money.
Someoen wants driver issues and instability. AMD isn't really competing against Nvidia. The only thing that is intresting is performance at highest gpu settings. And you can't play old games with AMDshit.

I still feel like 1440p is the sweet spot for gaming. My 3080 12GB card does a fantastic job still.
Absolutely. I got 1440p ultra wide (3440x1440) and my 2080 is still sufficient for basically anything. I'm planning to get a 7900 XTX and then I should get insane FPS for a long time. No need for 4k here.

I bought a 4080 FE, not concerned with the connector, I don't think it can draw enough power to burn it up as you mentioned. Very satisfied with the performance, I game @ 1440p and every game I play with ultra settings I'm seeing nearly 200 FPS at all times paired with a 7700X.
question, i’m currently trying to build a setup with the exact same cpu/gpu, would you mind telling me the rest of your build? it would save me some time in research.
@@isaacevans5893 I recently upgraded to 4080 from 2080 ti. My cpu is i9 9900k with 32 gb 3600 mhz ram. I have great fps at ultra settings at pretty much every game at 1440p as well. Just make sure you have a case that you can fit a 4080 without any issues cuz it comes with the same size as 4090!
So it’s roughly 40-50% faster than the 3080 for 72% more money.
Everyone keeps saying things like this but it's even worse than that, a new gen replacing an older card should be the exact same price, a 4080 should cost the same as a 3080 did at launch, if the price of every new 80 card being released goes up in price this much, by 2030 cards will cost $4000 each.. True. Just a shame that AMDs driver is still garbage, especially in comparison to Nvidias and stuff like Nvidia Inspektor, SGSSAA, etc. As an enthusiast, AMD sadly isnt relevant due to the lack of driver tweaking.
Well, isn't it supposed to compare to a 3090? Of the 6950x had to be relevant. Otherwise amd would be complete dog shit, which it is actually
Yeah but issue is, since these cards make 4K look so easy to run, it's stupid not to run Ray Tracing now, I have 4090 and literally I get CPU bottleneck anytime Ray Tracing is off, so RTX sort of becoming a free feature not like before cost so much performance to run
Have you tried the new driver set since 2020? i mean they are damn good now.
@@muchossaugus9927 Have you used the drivers this year? Cause there is a lot of tweaking options. Plus you don't need an account to use any locked features.
I really want to see the 7900 XTX benchmarks for comparison. My new rig is going to have one of these big flagship cards. I never really seriously considered the 4090 the way I did consider the 3090 almost 2 years ago. the 4080 seems like a really great spot, but I am also very tempted by the 7900 XTX. I want to see that comparison because I do think it's between those 2 cards for me.
Honestly it depends on the game you play, the 7900 is better in some games but the 4080 performs better on average, the 7900 also lacks raytracing performance and has many issues in vr and issues with drivers that will hopefully be fixed, I’d wait until the 7900 xtx settles and decide from there

AMD nailed that pricing and Spec/Performance point.
A quadro would be better for your use case with professional software and would have it's own SSD for big frame buffers and would cost the same as your 3090ti and 4090 combined
How big of a improvement is the 4090 in 3D Studio Max?
It probably would have been a good idea to mention to your viewers that AMD’s 7900XTX may end up trading blows with the RTX 4080 for $200 less
Just for those that don’t pay attention like the rest of us to do.
Allegedly (with high possibility)
7900XTX is 8% slower than a 4090 at 4K in Cyberjunk 2077, a game which typically favors Nvidia.
Reference 7900XTX is underclocked by 500Mhz and 150W, and is missing an 8-pin connector compared to AIBs.
If the 7900XTX can get as close as 10% in 4K gaming, that means we will be getting around equal 1440p, and better 1080p than the 4090.
AMD cards are always better at lower resolutions than 4K.
@@pocketdust2450 7900xtx def wont be near 4090 but it still will be way better value Wise
Or that the 7900xtx will end up trading blows (and losing) to the rtx 4060 in games like Microsoft flight Sim, because no dlss3 - at least until FSR3 gets here.
Yeah that would ALSO be good to mention. Because anyone wanting to go amd should know how badly behind even their top card will be in dlss3 games
But apparently the main feature of the cards is unfavourable to the narrative of the review so is omitted.
Because the reviewers wouldn't want you to know that a 4080 will take your ms fs 2020 4k framerates from 50 fps in new York to something like 100 fps (or 150fps with a 4090), while every 3000 series and amd card will be stuck at 50 fps because it lacks dlss3

For the price to performance metric, I'm holding off until next month to see how the 7900XT does. I don't really care about Real Time Raytracing, so I feel like AMD's cards will be a better value proposition for me looking for a rasterized native 4K gaming card. Assuming they perform well once reviews are out that is.
What is the most difficult to run title you intend to play?
That's what it's all about
If you want the best cyberpunk experience, can't go past 4000 series. Raytracing definitely makes the game look a lot better.
If you like Microsoft flight Sim 2020, you definitely want 4000 series. Dlss3 is a game changer here. Even a 4060 or 4070 will run the game better than a 7900xtx.
If neither of those games matters to you, and you are playing games like red dead redemption or GTA 5 etc, then 7900xtx is a great value choice, although you should really ask if you need such a powerful card for comparatively easy to run games - modern games are generally hard to run when using RT, not rasterisation.
If you like VR and want the best possible VR fps, then 7900xtx may be a good choice, we will have to see reviews, although 4090 stands head and shoulders above the others here.
However, depending on resolution, a 24gb card such as the 3090 might actually outperform the 7900xtx or 4080 in VR (we will have to see), due to the very high vram requirements at extreme VR resolutions (the 3080 and amd 6000 series were terrible compared to the 3090 in VR)
Same for me. I don't care about raytracing yet. When games begin using raytracing as the whole lighting system it'll look amazing and i'll start caring about it, at its current form its just used for horribly performing shadow or reflection setting in games.
0 improvement in perf/price over the 3090Ti where it is listed it's just so much more expensive
Nvidia just fudged the numbers with frame generation shit.
You know it doesn't retail at msrp
Yeah NVIDIA seems to think there should be a 1:1 ratio between any performance increase and price. Fucking ridiculous.
At least it's still an upgrade! The price performance ratio is something that's different for anyone when they include their own value ratio
I've been holding out for a new card for a while now. My launch day 1080ti was starting to underperform my monitor resolution and refresh rate (1440p/165hz). I made the the decision to buy am RTX 4080 from microcenter for MSRP. My alternative choice was a RTX 3090ti, but for $100 more the 4080 was better performing and better featured.
I'm finally building another system all around. The 4790k / z97 platform is starting to show it's age since I built it in 2014.
I've got a 13700k / z690 now, and the 4080. I'm happy with my purchases even though it was definitely more expensive than the last time around.
I'm still getting a 4 8 pin adapter for my 3080 from cablemod. It would help for redundancy and make the cable cooler in thermals. I had a lot of problems with my 6900xt, so I'm ripping out the 6900xt for the Asus tuf 4080 16gb. I'm glad I had the foresight to get a 1000 watt platinum from Corsair.
I don’t think the price is there for it to be worth it. I’ll be looking into the new AMD cards to see if the performance is there for the $1K price point.
Are the NVIDIA card to expensive hell yeah no one can say otherwise but I hate AMD they have always sucked balls in the GPU department in my opinion. They also suck at updating drivers pretty bad they might be ok I guess in the midrange but yeah that just my opinion.
@@Ragnar0321 so bad it trade blows with a 3090Ti while costing msrp 400$ less with no driver issue as they used to. but sure they suck maybe try to open your eyes for a change
@@antoinedenis9922 why get so but hurt over a comment? Maybe get a life and learn to accept others opinion I never stated they were facts. Yes on benchmarks they might trade blows but from what I personally seen with friends that have amd the games we play tends to run at lower fps and have some stability issues. Also to me amd sucked and are still bad as issuing drivers for fixes or new games.
@@antoinedenis9922 R Kelly is that you? you flat out pissed on him and he said that its raining. always nice to see a sucker get pawned.
I'm still seeing some diehard Nvidia fans going 'great card Nvidia wins'... yeah almost double the msrp of a 3080 is disgusting
Wow! Looking at just straight up gaming maxed out without raytracying and seeing what the 6950XT was doing compared to the 3090/3090ti. Makes me wonder just how the 7900XT will perform with its 20gigs / infinity cache / and most importantly 320-bit bus. Not to mention the 7900XTX. Keeping in mind they said the XTX is the 4080 competitor.
Jay, hope you get this new Ridge SFF case in to review from Fractal...would be interesting to see what you can max out in it.
Jay, can you measure power with a PCAT? MSI tends to NOT include PCIE SLOT power in reporting.
It shows my 6800XT top at 255W (when it's 300W)
I just got a 3080 for $680. I am so happy with the upgrade and glad I got it for a reasonable price. After 5 years of an RX480 it feels like I just upgraded my bicycle to a corvette
Most definitely does. I jumped from RX580 to a 2080 Super. It blew my socks off lol co grass man.
It's sad as fuck that getting the 3080 for its MSRP more than 2 years after the launch is considered lucky
We're going to have to wait until they release a $700 card to get a real idea of how the 40 series compares to the 30. I'm guessing that will be the 4060 or 4070 and it will be in the same ballpark as the 3080, so basically no actual gen on gen increase. They really haven't left themselves much room to beat the more reasonably priced 30 series cards.
They don’t want to beat the 30 series
That’s the point
They have an inventory problem and need to clear stock. A cheap 4080 would kill the 30 series and that’s what they DONT want
At least for now
@@eliashabash7591 What happens then? The 30 series cards will sell out eventually and they'll have to release the lower tier 40 series cards. Once that happens they will have put themselves in a difficult position.
@@ClellBiggs Nvidia already holds their inventory and trickle their stock out to vendors. Both Best Buy and MicroCenter reported this. They're barely seeing 30 series cards come in and its not due to stock issues. Its because the 40 series launched and they want you to buy those up. They are tracking their vendors and sending what they need to where so its the ONLY thing on the shelf. They are creating a false shortage knowing it'll get bought out by the desperate.
@@eliashabash7591 In that $700 bracket you looking for GF4050 cards with this series.
It will be a 4060 that performs like a 3070 for the price of a 3080.
hey Jay, i have that exact 6950 by powercolor, i was wondering if the one you have there has very intense coil whine? Mine squeels when it is idle, every single time i scroll my damn mouse, then when gaming it squeels so loud and stays that loud my entire gaming session, literally does not stop. My power supply is EVGA G+ 1300w.
Looking at that fan I am very confused as to which way it will spin and which way the air will be blowing
From all these Graphs i'm surprised that the 6950 is fighting so well with the 3090ti, or even beating it.
Why does that surprise you? The 6950 has always been on par with the 3090, trading blows depending on the game. Nvidia fanboys would have you believe its not as good though and that AMD "wasnt completing" when they really were. The only thing thats holding them back now is RT performance, and id still bet that the majority of people dont play with RT on the vast majority of the time.
I'm not. The AMD cards are great for raster in a lot of games. It's only RT that lets it down but thats still a niche.
6950XT got slept on. It punches pretty hard. It was just hard to get as supply was rather low.
And AMD fanboys would tell you that it's better than a 3090 TI and leave out the fact that the drivers have suffered terribly, black screen issues, FPS drops, Inconsistencies all around.
Some of those graphs had the 3090 ti beating the 6950 by over 20 FPS.... ONE graph had the 6950 beating the 3090 TI by 9 FPS with Tomb Raider... That's not competing in my book.
Given what the 7900XT and XTX is supposed to offer, Nvidia really doesn't interest me much anymore. With the 30 series, I would've went with them because the raw performance is needed for the game I primarily run. The 40 series and 7000 series look to be able to meet my needs without having to go top of the line, and the AMD pricing looks to be the deciding factor.
Is that game more favoring nvidia than amd?
@@lyianx maybe, but nothing earth shattering. It's the new Microsoft Flight Sim, and I use a 4k60 monitor. With a 3080ti, it would just barely hit 60fps on ultra settings, and that's without ray tracing (which the game doesn't have). The 6950 XT runs about 50-55 fps if I'm not mistaken, and I start to notice jittery motion at 50fps. Not screen tearing as I have free sync on, but things just take a noticeable dive in smoothness between frames.
I'm not interested in things like FSR, DLSS, and frame generation. I can't make use of anything over 60 fps anyway, and I prefer keeping resolution native if possible for the best image quality.
Jay's iFixit ad is the only ad (across all youtubers) that I always let run right through without skipping - very funny (great for viewers) & that's got to be fantastic for the advertiser (we actually listen to the sponsor).
In terms of pure cost to performance, the 4090 is a better value than the 4080. They are both very expensive and neither is an objectively good value but the 4090 is worth the cost premium over the 4080. Having said that, many of us just buy what suits our needs and don't buy the flagship product if we don't need it. I went with the 4080 because it was still a massive upgrade over my 3080 and chose not to spend the extra for the 4090. I am still able to max out the refresh rate of my 4K, 144HZ display in games like Forza Horizon 5 even with the graphics settings turned up to max. The card still allows me to use ray tracing ultra in games like Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K and average 70FPS. For 4K gaming, the 4080 is a great option even if it is a terrible value.
Yeah and for anyone with 3d rendering workflows, nvidia is still gonna be miles ahead for most software. Even new flagship amd gpus would be a downgrade to my 3070ti. That's a big reason I just opted to get the suprim 4080 for ~1100
Would be an amazing card at $800 which would be $100 over the MSRP of the 3080 (for increased production cost) but at $1,199 I can’t stomach a $400 increase. The card is really good but as long as the prices are the way they are I’ll stay with the 3080 until things get back to a norm or I’ll just go second hand when next Gen hits or find a good open box refurb deal just can’t spend that much it’s insane, and I’m not just putting this on Nvidia because AMD is and will take advantage just not as much.
i see it this way: in germany, the msrp for the card is 1470€. the KFA2 costum card, goes for 1999€. in 2017, i paid 512€ for my gtx 1080. its just insane. think about what that means for 4070 and 4060 pricing. there could very well be a 800€ 4060ti
Assuming the AMD cards come in about where everyone is expecting...this generation will be 4090 when you want best of the best and don't care about cost, or one of the 2 new AMD if you want a step below that but at much less cost. The 4080 at this price point just doesn't seem to fit anywhere.
Bet you didnt buy your 3080 at 800 though. Be honest. You spent at least 1200
@@brandon10301991 I bet you could rake that money back by mining as well.
@@brandon10301991 The only person I know who bought a 3080 bought it at 800€ (so slightly above MSRP) just after launch. Another friend & I went with the 6900XT.

If I manage to sell my 2060 at about 200USD, overall it’d be a great deal.
Good call. Let latest gen sit on shelves
Good call again. Buying used, don’t give these cunts another dime.

Brand new 2060 super goes for 260usd, old 2060 won't sell for 200
Yea im snagging a 3080ti for 400 used as well. And no it was not used as a mining card.
Otherwise i'd be looking at AMD for sure. Nvidia can f right off with their price gouging.
The only "con" in this card is it's price man :/
I just built a 13900k based system and went with a 3080Ti which seemed like a good deal at $1500 here in New Zealand. I occasionally will play a game but I use this PC for motion graphics/video post work and I can't justify the cost of a 4090 which is around $3800 NZD here in NZ. Even the 3090Ti at $2500 didn't seem to offer enough of a jump in performance for my use case to justify the extra cost. I think it would be great if AMD can make itself an option for GPU acceleration in professional creative apps so we can have some more options.
At $1299? Naw I’ll just wait to see how the 7900xt and xtx perform no rush to let Nvidia rip us off
It’s 1,199 actually
@@eliashabash7591 😅
I'm not worried about the adapter on that 3080 since as you showed its power draw is rather significantly lower, and that is an impressive showing considering the CUDA core difference between the 80 and 90, but I'm still mad at Nvidia for all the crap they've been pulling recently and their ridiculous treatment of AIBs. So, despite the fact that I've been on team green since the days of the 8800, I'm waiting for AMD's showing this time around.
Based on the 6950's performance, there's easily enough room there for the 7900XTX to come out swinging and eat some of Nvidia's lunch. They just have to stick the landing.
The power draw in the adapter isn't the issue. The bend on them was causing breaks in the metal internals of the connector itself. Because the two conductors were so close together, the current was arcing between them. Since air is an insulator, when electricity passes through it, there is tremendous friction, light and heat. That's how arc welders and lightning bolts work.
It doesn't matter how much current in this case because even 100W would melt plastic when arcing.
Seeing how the 6950xt is around $800 rn and can hold up that well Is incredible and having the 7900xtx coming soon at around 1k, I feel AMD is gonna end up winning this time around even if it doesn't give the same FPS and speeds as the 4090
Does EKWB not have RTX 4080 Strix and Tuf coolers and RTX4090Strix and tuf cooler so nothing to share between 4080/4090?
I like the EVGA and Intel ARC in the background :)
Far too expensive to my liking - waiting on the 7900 XTX numbers before I decide on the path. Staying on my current card is still very much a plan too.
That extra $200 for a fully fleshed out feature set is just a bridge too far, eh? lol
So pleased with my £700 6950XT. Love to see it doing so well in the charts, outside of RT it’s an amazing card. Even with RT, it’s often circa 2080Ti levels of performance which I’m more than fine with.
Good choice my friend

Hi,
I have just recently upgraded to the RTX 4080. Mainly for 3D work, Blender, Photoshop, Unreal Engine.
I wonder if I could use 4080 and 2080ti SLI in my PC and enhace my 3D power that way? Any professional oppunions?
SLi is unfortunately dead
I like the new graphing and style.
I’m waiting for the AMD RDNA 3 benchmarks. I think AMD can do similar or better performance for a much lower price point.
Waiting to see AMDs new cards in action before even thinking of upgrading
hope you get your hands on the 7900xtx soon jason to see if its power sits between the 4080 and 4090
I really like that iFixit segment, always puts a smile on my face. :)
Please always include 1080p fps in your videos. I will probably rock 360+hz monitors in 1080p for a very long time. These benchmarks really help with knowing the fps difference
If the recent news is anything to go off of, the 4080 will probably still have issues with the power plug melting, especially on AIB cards. Not as much mind you due to the lower power draw, but doubt there will be no issues at all.
As to purchasing, still going to wait for the 7900 XTX performance charts. AMD is looking very promising from the marketing thus far. Interested to see if they actually live up to those numbers.
whats a hardware device that can cause slow 1.5 (mbs) download speed when i have higher speed? i have completely rebuild my pc. been dealing with this problem for years and idk what else to replace.
Was looking forward to the electric guitar solo haha
I've been a Nvidia guy for a long time but they priced me out.
Amd did too
PCMR indeed.
Honestly, I bought a 7900xtx to give AMD a chance, what a stuttering mess that was about as good as my 3070ti in VR. Bought a 4080. Buttery smooth, and it literally fit in my case with half an inch to spare. Couldnt go 4090 even if i wanted to, because my psu is 850 and my case isnt big enough. I am so happy with my 4080

Hey yall, question. What causes a gpu utilization, clock speed and power consumption to drop at the same time during a stress test. Junction temp is 86 to 87.
I think something might have got fried. I was gaming and my pc kept shutting off. I tried to figure it out by reinstalling windows, down clocking and stuff but it kept shutting off. I figured i would try to change the power outlet to find that where it plugged into the wall was fried and the wall outlet burnt. I got a new power cord and fixed the outlet but my pc kept shutting off randomly. I took my pc apart and cleaned it out, re set everything, and took off the cord extensions. It still randomly restarts now playing games, screens flash black, or system freezes but runs a stress test. Any clue what could cause it. Did my gpu get fried, you think its the power supply or the motherboard?
I am now in the position to build an entirely new system. For the first time ever I am leaning towards an all AMD setup. I am upgrading from an Intel 4670k with 970 nvidia. I understand that no matter what I choose it will be a significant increase in performance.
12100 i3 100dollars board 80 dollars used rx5700xt $140 or 6600xt $230 you can get a ton of performance for cheap
I had that exact same system lol. Your jaw is gonna smack the floor when you see the performance difference in your new computer
It'll be HUGE. I mean, I've upgraded TWICE since my R9 Fury and even it beats the 970 handily (Hell it even beat the 980).
I feel a lot more confident in the 4080 as a product but the price point is way out of what I feel is reasonable for my needs. I currently have a 3070 and don't see changing that for at least a few more years.
I have a 3070 this gonna be good for my gaming needs for near a decade.
When you see the GPU Performance ITS really more a 4070 than a 4080..
I got a 2070 and it's about time to level up, I wouldn't count on that few more years thing... my 2070 is lagging behind hard at this point.
Only for VR all these new overpriced cards really make sense. On a monitor, even a big one, WQHD is more than enough and therefore you 3070 is more than enough as well.
Why so many people spend so much money on these cards considering VR remains a niche, that is a mystery.
which gpu should i upgrade from gtx 980ti? not the mad expensive cards though please.
Funny when he showed the benchmark results i just caught myself only looking at the 6950 4k bar ;D
I was going for the 4080 until AMD announced the 7900XTX... now i'm waiting for the review of those cards because their price/performance ratio should make a little more sense expecially here in Europe (the 4080 here launches at 1500€)... mabye for the first time i'll go with team red
To be honest, you won't even notice. It's like going from an Intel to AMD CPU.
The last time building a pc was this expensive consoles used to rule... time to go back to consoles I guess. I can get an xbox and a playstation for the price of 1 gpu LOL
and a yearly game pass for both.
I hope your ifixit advert never changes and if it does its only to add more interruptions and explosions.
Still tons of rtx4080 16gb on November 17th 2pm near my microcenter.
I saw the UK price... I am 100% waiting for AMDs offering. If they're both insanely priced, ill wait for used.
Interesting how well AMD does on the Unreal Engine. Their work with Epic really shows on how well the card performs on Unreal Engine games.
I think there may be a longer term play here as we move towards the metaverse. Microsoft has been buying up gaming studios and making a push to train those studios on Unreal Engine 5, there are even rumors of Halo moving to Unreal Engine 5. Its no secret AMD has been working with Epic to optimize its platform on the Unreal Engine. I think we will see a market consolidation of AAA games and the future metaverse that is run on Unreal Engine and AMD is just positioning itself as a graphics providor in that space. Not all ray tracing is done at the hardware level.

Honestly with AMDs awesome lineup now its hard to choose, 4080 is alot more tempting than a 30 series, AMD would still probably win if I were to buy a new top shelf card right now though since 1199$ makes for a much emptier wallet right around the holidays, they should've led with this on launch for sure.
20 years down the line I wanna see someone make a house out of these GPU "bricks" XD
20 years down the line graphics cards will be more expensive than an actual house
20 years down the line we'll have APUs rulling
20 years from now gpu will as big as house door
So this is a weird, think you said that the 3090 is around 350w draw. My 3090 draws about 415-420w under load in Furmark. I haven't overclocked the card at all just how I got it out of box settings. It's the EVGA FTW3 Ultra Hydrocopper.
Know it’s a bit of an old vid but have a question!
At my local microcenter, I can get a 4080 (specifically ASUS tuf gaming model) for $1200, or a 7900xtx (specifically sapphire pulse model) for $1150. I play a bunch of different games, raytracing is nice but not a prio.
The biggest reason I’m upgrading, and really the only part where performance matters, is for DCS VR. All my other games these two cards will crush at my chosen resolution (3440x1440 ultra wide master race!)
I am a small time streamer, WoW and FFXIV raid prog, and I’ve heard that Nvidia is better at that, would that be that much more worth it?
I am still waiting on the reviews of the AMD GPU's when they finally roll out. So no matter what I will save my money for now.

One of the smartest comments to this video that I've read. BRAVO!
Hey Jay. I know you are going blind with benchmarks but when you review AMD's offering can you throw the original 3090 FE in there as I suspect there are far more folks who have that vs the 3090 TI. It will give folks a better understanding on if upgrading from a 3090 FE is worth it for an upgrade to the 7900 XTX.
Jay doesn't want you to get an AMD card because he doesn't get paid that way. LOL
I got my 3080XOC direct from Nvidia for MSRP. The trouble is, that was ONE YEAR LATER! LOL Then I saw a pic of the 3080FTW-3 and had to have it. I got that from them for just under a grand. The FTW-3 is gorgeous!
