- In this video we explore the tragic Greek myth behind the painting known as "The Anger of Achilles" by Jaques-Louis David. The painting revolves around a wedding party turned human sacrifice, and involves King Agamemnon of Mycenae, his wife Clytemnestra, their daughter Iphigenia, and the Greek warrior Achilles.
Something I forgot to mention in the video is that Achilles becomes enamored with Iphigenia, and his anger is spurned on not only by the fact that her father is about to kill her, but also that Agamemnon used him as a trap to lure the girl there.
My text was adapted from Euripides' tragedy titled 'Iphigenia at Aulis' which you can download here free of charge:

I feel your pain Iphigenia… 😔😭
"It's more important for one single man to look upon the light than a thousand women..."
Very striking! 🏹
If you'd like to read the tragedy this video was based on, you can download a free PDF file of Euripides' play here:

Oh wow! You're spoiling us... 😉
This is an absolutely beautiful tragedy. One of the best, and you tell it so well. ✨
Aww thanks so much! I was in an incubation period for a while and now feel like it’s the right time to start letting videos out into the wild again.😉
I want to focus more on the Oresteia and also get the long-format Hera video out soon too. For some reason I got really stuck on that one! Maybe I should have made an offering to Hera before beginning…
LoL! An offering never hurts no... But I'm sure that when the Hera video is ready, it'll be very interesting and awesome.
The Oresteia of course is and excellent piece of ancient literature, it's little wonder it has inspired artists and poets for millennia! You certainly can't go wrong.
Looking forward to more of that captivating content...
"Farewell torch baring day, Light of Zeus; I will inhabit another time, another place, another life... Farewell from me sweet light of the Sun." ✨
Cannot even describe in words how truly beautiful, albeit heartbreaking those lines are! 💥
Yes! 😔 I also like how it points to the idea of reincarnation, of “waking up” somewhere else into a new life. Scary, tragic, but with a tiny sliver of hope in the face of the complete unknown.
@@TinyEpics excellent narration
Fascinating!
It’s for me the most riveting of all the great Greek tragedies. Especially when we get to Clytemnestra’s revenge!
"Ευχαριστώ πολύ"🤍
I love ur voice tho! Keep making video 🫶
Thank you very much! ☺️
