@@dread12059 they were sacrificing animals to a false god. Jesus elaborates on this in Matt. 12:7 where he states to the Pharisee, “if you knew what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.” With this we can assume that the real God never wanted any sacrifice. And how could he? He’s a spirit. What is a Spirit going to do with burned animals or virgins or piles of gold? This still baffles people today as the only thing we can actually do for God is to be good to each other. Would a little kid in a day care be able to do anything for the teacher or whoever’s in charge? No, other than getting along with other kids. That’s it.

The mummy, called La Doncella or The Maiden, is that of a teenage girl who died more than 500 years ago in a ritual sacrifice in the Andes Mountains. The girl and two other children were left on a mountaintop to succumb to the cold as offerings to the gods, according to the archaeologists who found the mummified remains in Argentina in 1999.

15 years old though, that's very young to die. You don't even know what you are by that age, there's so much more to learn about. And to convince a child that she's dying for a greater cause is, well, I guess I shouldn't judge to hard. Belief is a very powerful force, and can cause people to do unspeakable things. I wonder if she and those other children offered them selves as a sacrifice to please some Deity. If her brain is still intact, and one day we have the tech, it'd be nice to extract those memories and turn it into a "movie" to see what she saw back then and to get a glimpse of the Inca civilization.

Child sacrifice, referred to as capacocha was an important part of the Inca religion and was often used to commemorate important events, such as the death of a Sapa Inca. Human sacrifice was also used as offering to the gods in times of famine, and as a way of asking for protection
Sacrifice could only occur with the direct approval of the Inca emperor. Children were chosen from all over the sprawling Inca empire, and were picked primarily based on their "physical perfection". Children chosen for sacrifice were generally "sons and daughters of nobles and local rulers".
They were then taken hundreds or thousands of miles to Cusco, the capital, where they were the subject of important purification rituals. From there, the children were sent to high mountaintops throughout the empire to be sacrificed. According to traditional Inca belief, children who are sacrificed do not truly die, but instead watch over the land from their mountaintop perches, alongside their ancestors.
The Inca considered it a great honour to die as a sacrifice.

I'm pretty sure it's not just that. I'm pretty sure it's because before her sacrifice she had probably led a tough life, as most people did back then. Survival was hard no doubt. And she lived on a diet that may have not been that consistent, or the best. Plus, life was no doubt stressful and it is common for young people to have grey hairs.

while it's still horrific, these children didn't actually die in a frightened, violent manner. To them it was an honour to be sacrificed, They weren't being 'fed' to the gods as such, but they believed that this was a sacred transition ritual to move on and live in Paradise. They were peasant children (researchers think) - and offered luxuries like lama meat and alcohol for a year before their death. They were selected. This is of course all just researched guesses from analysis, though, and still really sad.
