Congratulations to both teams and to all the other participating teams as well. Hamilton Boys awesome display of defence and counter rucking and attack very pro typical NZ style of play hence why they're the champions - And I have to say Grey College at times I thought why aren't they going for goal but at the same time thought - hey these young men are backing themselves thats enterprising footy I love that confidence, that swag about em + they don't give a damn!! Really hope they can get the rest of the Top teams to participate next year. World Rugby common hook our schools up with funding can only grow our game even bigger!
lmao I remember when Grey pumped CBHS and we were trying to give context about the CBHS boys not even being a top 10 NZ team and how it was a opportunity to blood their year 11 and 12s but all the saffas didnt wanna listen calling it excuses lol. It’s two very good schools in world rugby playing in a final. The All Blacks and Springboks have nothing but respect for each other. How about our supporters show the same when our school boys clash?
Tournaments like this will bring our schools closer together. I’m a massive NZ schoolboys fan. I hope we get to see a number of NZ and SA’s strongest schools square off in future. It’s great code to watch ✊🏾

I think Auckland Schools have lost the plot. No longer want to televise games., the principals have all gone PC. The true strength now is outside Auckland. You only need to see what happened to Westlake in the Top 4.
@@bgreen240 It doesn’t make sense to me aye. I get that the televised games are putting piles of pressure on they boys etc but isn’t that what the top are supposed to thrive off of? Also think of the revenue it will bring in for the televised, school, even when someone purchases food at the venue etc its a huge revenue boost.
@@238kahi5 televising added to the illusion that they were professional sportsman already. The NRLS u20s Comp was so detrimental to those boys mental health that the league had to discontinue televising it. If 20 year olds weren't mentally mature enough to cope then imagine 16-18yo.

As a kiwi, I think one thing that would immensely help SA teams is incorporating more touch rugby skills into their game. Most kiwi boys have good skills cos we played tag and touch for warmups or during lunch time, this is why you see 120kg props throwing skip passes lol. Anyway that's my opinion, I often get it wrong lol.

Hamilton were pure class, skill, and pace. These SA schools were bigger on the field but they lack the skills and pace to match Hamilton. They need to catch up to NZ school rugby level cos these NZ boys are playing top level rugby atm. They were so quick to recycle that ball that almost every phase they beat grey out wide with slick ball skills and pace.

i think the organizers of the tournament need to properly arrange their calendar. South African schools were playing junior teams because the seniors were writing their final exams. For a proper tournament all schools must bring their 1st XV teams period!

And rugby isn't the only sport NZ punches above its weight. NZ won twice as many medals than SA at the Commonwealth Games, 19 medals at the Summer Olympics and 3 medals at the Winter Olympics. Rugby League is also our second most popular sport.

Basic errors and ill discipline cost Grey this game. Other than that, it was a pretty even match and both teams played great rugby. 3 times Grey was over the line, but held up. I don’t think Ham boys quite dominated like some of our kiwi friends here make it out to be. They had a solid defence and made no mistakes. That was the difference.
Grey had several chances to kick for goal in good positions to keep the scoreboard ticking, but chose enterprising rugby.
Great game by both and the ref was decent.
Hope this tournament grows and starts getting the sponsorship and participation it deserves
B teams or not, this was a great match of rugby to watch and looking forward to next years edition.. well done Hamilton Boys… you deserve it this year.

Love the tournament first time watching it live and did not expect the games to be as quality as they were!! Need more of it - but I know it needs funding.. Maybe World Rugby can throw a few million at it??
I just hope we start getting the best teams out as it never happens. Watching some of the games in the past even the CBHS game against Greys I didn't recognise anyone in that team bar a couple. Come on we need the best qualified players on the field not be teams or development teams. It just ends up with endless excuses otherwise

A lot of toxic comments which is sad. New Zealand and South Africa have both won the world cup 3 times. They are both a force to be reckoned with in world rugby. This is school rugby. A bit of perepective is needed. On this occassion Grey college got beat. Many congrats to Hamilton on a great display of rugby. Having said that, players come and go and the strength of a team does the same. This is most certainly not the best team I have watched from Grey college in the last 5 years.

Playing against u16s. Our U18 vs Hamilton u18 will destory them. Cant even put up a 50 run score against our kids. Grey did great for U16s and playing in the final
SA are not as good in general as NZ top schools. NZ schoolboys are bigger and stronger than SA … reason being, NZ have a lot islanders & SA have none… no people in South Africa are as big or physical as islanders

Didn't want to say it, but as a Grey College Old Boy, I think I have to speak up. The lack of diversity in this year's team could've played a role in the mediocre performance this year. I know for a fact that everybody in Bloemfontein is NOT white. I suspect their coach and selectors might've missed some good players on account of the fact that the majority of people in Bloemfontein are NOT white. Where are the players of colour in this team? Why are there none whatsoever? What exactly affected the selection of basically only white players in this team? Merit? Hard to believe... I am myself white, but come on! Somebody needs to look into this. What is happening at Grey this year that would result in them having a lily-white team?
