and as an "adult" you will face the consequences of your actions. I have trouble believing you are an adult and not a MAGAtard
IIRC there was some research that found out people who swear are in general more honest. Because everyone gets emotional about something at some point, and those that express that with swearing are honestly speaking their mind. Whilst those that intentionally do not swear are also likely to be less forward about voicing their opinion in general, potentially leading to dishonest (not necessarily malicious, mind you) statements.
As a kid, my mom had one rule on swearing: you may cuss but you may not cuss at me. I found her terms acceptable and fair.
Why is swearing considered adult language, but when you say it, then its suddenly childish.

I'm surprised they let people chat in online games these days. They should keep the chat emote only and then people say whatever they want in a voice chat with each other using a third party program. I saw that video the other day about a Canadian university and them changing words people are allowed to use while writing, that's so funny.

There is a clear difference of intention between character behavior and verbiage in a narrative, and a player’s behavior/ verbiage directed at another player.
@@fudalefu1 Profanity can serve similar linguistic functions in both narrative and interpersonal contexts, the way it's perceived and its effects vary based on the setting, intention, and audience involved. In this case, we don't have the intention, we don't know who, if anyone at all, it was directed too.
The fundamental flaw is already discussed in the video at 01:00. The chat filters are on by default for everyone. Players who choose to disable the filter are acknowledging their willingness to see potentially offensive content, including profanity. In this scenario, the responsibility for encountering profanity shifts to the player who disabled the filter.
If a player who has disabled the mature language filter, then reports another player for profanity, the responsibility for encountering the profanity ultimately lies with the player who chose to disable the filter.

Completed all the battle passes in Overwatch 2. It was a T500 account from Season 27 in Overwatch 1 to Season 8 in Overwatch 2, never been temp banned before, never been text muted troughout all the years.
I've always been positive in-game, not yelling or cursing at my teammates. Always promoted PMA PMA PMA. If I do rage, it's not even in the mic.
But then, in December, I was playing in a PcBang in Korea. Our Reinhardt threw the game because he couldn't push through on Numbani. He sat in the cafe at the start of the attacker's spawn. I typed in team chat, "Man, actual little kid behavior." And then this guy started calling me a filthy American (I'm Dutch ;-;), yelling at me, calling me a dog. Asmon with an incredibly nuanced and level headed take as usual.
I agree that banning a player for low tier profanity (non racial slurs) when the game allows the words to be typed, and also has a profanity filter that a player needs to opt in to, is ridiculous.
I agree that if the above is true, then a player should not get banned for using profanity in a manner that is not harrasminf another player. For example, saying “fuck yeah”, or “what the fuck?”. This is using profanity but I’m a context that is not harassment. This is where an actual person would need to review the report and determine if it is just a nuetra use of low tier profanity, or if it is cleary harassinf other players; for example “fuck you, you shitty fuck”. In this case the profanity isn’t even the problem. It is the context of harassment.
I also agree that this 22 year old kid is immature and entitled. He has been banned multiple times in the past for the same verbiage. He knows the rules, however silly the rules are. If he cares so much about playing the game professionally then he should have been more adult about it. There is a reason you don’t see professional athletes verbally harassing each other. They would get punished by the organization. It’s that simple.
Feel bad for the kid that he got banned at an important time in his “gaming career”. But also, I don’t feel bad for him at all. Needs to grow up and take accountability for his actions. This could be the best thing that ever happens to him.
I don’t believe blizzard should reverse the ban. It would be more damaging to their reputation that the ban itself.
I don’t think anyone besides the extremely niche professional overwatch community cares about this.
I find it hilarious.
I remember days when you would write up a ticket in WoW for something pretty minor, then a human would whisper you in a half-RP way of talking. they were so kind, they cared and talked about it with you. it made you realize why you were spending sub fees. I loved those days.
I remember this...and then 3 years ago I was perma banned for the same reason as the guy in the video got suspended. Same exact words.
Because GM’s cost money. Blizzard isn’t out for the gamers anymore, it’s profit, profit and, guess it, profit. If they can save a few bucks by letting some half assed automation flow handle decade old accounts, so be it.
Remember, the shareholders need to be happy. Not the gamers.
@@Koppquetscha the twist that they dont see, but is bussiness 101, is that happy gamers = happy, or eve happier, shareholders

fun fact tho...if you look at most swear words that are "forbidden" they are all referencing genitals, reproduction,or fecies.
which then confuses me how the "safer" options of those words, which reference the reference (or uses an alternative term of the first) is okay.
in the end its stupid because it pushes you to an alternative which should also not be aloud based on the reasons why the swear words are "taboo" to begin with.

Someone should make a video compilation of all the times Blizzard characters have sworn, mocking their ignorant statement lol
Reminder that many OW characters, like Soldier 76 were never gay to begin with. They just made them gay later down the line to virtue signal and to keep the attention away from the current controversy.
They had to avoid doing any writing for the game for 6 years so they could turn all the characters homo and save up for the exciting PVE story mode which never dropped. The fact that Blizzard continues to rake in cash just proves you can get away with anything once you've got a monopoly on certain types of games.

Reminds me of the story I heard Christopher Hitchens tell about one of the early dictionaries that were written for mass publication. Profanity should never be bannable especially if there's a filter
exactly it makes no sense, why have a filter then, just dont allow it if you gonna ban people for it. there is no logic to it.
Profanity itself done nothing wrong, just words with stronger emotional coloring. The way they are used can hurt others but it's true for any other wor. You should be able to use any word in chat with optional filter and have no repercussions unless you actually insult someone. If you're insulting and spreading toxicity then yeah, you might get ban but I can curse people even with the nicest words in any language and still be toxic and I should be banned for that and not for language itself. imagine sentencing people for existence of kitchen knife in their hands
@@Chasodey The thing is people chose to be offended over words. I could chose to be offended over something as inane as "cupcake", does that mean everyone using it should be banned because I find it offensive? @@NoobTamer That’s why I prefer playing Dota over Lol for example (there are other reasons too) is I can swear as much as I want if I’m not insulting anybody directly and they don’t report me for a proper reason the system won’t even move to punish me. In real life I can go outside, stick to a group of people, say whatever I want (ofc choosing my words to test waters and boundaries first) and if people are okay I won’t get beaten to a pulp because I said an F-word or anything else. That’s why I have max behavior score in Dota not because system punishes people for words but because I am not toxic towards people even if I swear
