These are the same people who will campaign to let men compete in women's sports, even though they're not athletes and the real women athletes don't want them there.
Yeah except actually no. Warhammer isn't like Tolkiens universe or something created by a single individual. It's made by a company as well as a fan base for the good and the bad. It's very important to know in 40k lore that just because something is stated somewhere doesn't mean it's automatically true and there are hundreds of examples of this over the years.
In this specific situation many of the writers have said that when fleshing out and establishing the current lore for the custodes which have in general been very beloved by the community they always wanted female custodians but the gw higher ups said no for some reason. There isn't any reason in the lore for why there can't be any female custodians. Also important to note that most if not all 40k lore is written from an in universe perspective so whoever wrote the codex stating sons probably isn't aware of every nuance of creating a custodian since presumably only the emperor knows all the details.
It's nowhere near the same as saying female space Marines have always been a thing since it has been stated multiple times that the gene seed only works for males.

I have always advocated for more inclusions and women in games. Hell, I am a gamer since childhood, and since childhood I've been trying to get girls into my nerd hobbies. Few were in, most didn't liked it, no problem with that. I can just recall how many times I've had a conversation about warhammer or mtg or science-fiction with a friend, only to have girls in the room looking at me like a nerd and not comprehending a single f of what we were talking about. @@Devastator0 Yeah I think he was invited on a talk show, where the host showed him and the audience a picture of one of Henry's own painted unit, and I do believe it was a Custodes painted in gold. But in any case when it comes to Henry's WH project if I'm not mistaken he's not just playing the role of a character (or the main character), I THINK he has some actual weight on the writing this time, if I'm not mistaken (I hope so anyway). He did help with corrections supposedly during the Witcher show's first season (he confirmed that in various interviews, he had to tell the guys in charge a couple of things but who knows if they truly did listen to him during production and filming).

Like characters that died or did not die. Factions that got wiped out. Or units that get killed off. When I commented on a Reddit post about this that if female custodians exist then there should also be male sisters of silence and adepta sororitas now as a bait comment and the answer I got was "No, the lore wouldn't allow it but in the Custodes case it's ok because the lore behind them being all male isn't as important and can be retconned."

I am a casual fan of WH40k and even i know. That there were other cooler females like the sisters of war, silence and i think healing. The custodians were elite male warriors and always have been but are considered fodder. The main fodder were militia or conscripts from the common or peasent class. Chapters were custodians of great skill and renown. Of course there is that one guy who killed an orc and and lost his hand replacing it with said orcs hand. Its a claw like thing.

Ok I’m gonna help clear this up once and for all and say why this was a dumb move on GW’s part. First of all. In their trailers , some imperial guard are shown to be women. And there are trillions if not quadrillions of guardsman enlisted and growing by the day. So instead of mathing that out let’s just say it’s around 50 percent women. Still not enough ? There is an entire chapter of space marine women. The sisters of battle ( who are probably one of my more liked factions amongst warhammer ) have years of lore built around them and are almost equal to the level of regular space marines. So don’t even start there. And third of all. WE ALREADY HAVE FEMALE CUSTODES. The sisters of SILENCE. For those who don’t know the lore. Think deamonslayer but as a woman. They are on the same power level as custodes and are probably one of the more powerful armies in the galaxy. Even if they aren’t mentioned as much as the sisters or others, also along with female inquisitors. There is already a lot of representation for both male and female in warhammer. What there doing now is completely unneeded and is just upsetting the fan base that loves warhammer for what it is. A world where there is only war. ( and let’s be honest no way they were gonna gaslight the most attentive, and lore tracking fan base on the internet. ) so yeah I really hope they realize the way they handled this was a mistake and don’t erode their audience away.

I don't think there's any restrictions technically that clearly state why you couldn't have female Custodes, but the biggest problem is the condescending way they did it here.

The thing is the women in lore already shown they reached the same heights as post-human mutants that are the Custodes and Space Marines. They were called the Sisters of battle and Sisters of Silence. With the sisters of silence is also being called talons of the emperor alongside the Custodes. They aren’t even trying to make it seems like they’re “correcting” a wrong, they’re just stripping the unique aspects that separate the male only and female only factions

It seems to me that, because Warhammer is a work of fiction, the canon IS whatever the creator(s) wants it to be. If they want to make it so that there have, in universe, always been female Custodes, then that's true. End of story. It's not something you can disprove by providing counterexamples, because it's completely fictional. Unlike history, fiction can be rewritten and reshaped and no version of it by the creator is more or less "real." Is there some reason I'm missing why this Warhammer situation is different?

To be fair, Malcador suggested that the primarchs should be female, naturally the emperor said no. And again, Malcador has stated quite a few times, even in recent canon (Siege of Terra), that the Emperor had assumed female forms multiple times in the past.

And did look terrible so no real wonder as to why. They were never retconned as they NEVER had ANY lore what so ever. They were literally just two ugly models in janky power armor, which at the time were not even associated with Astartes - as these came later.

You want to know something interesting? In the Forgotten Realms (DnD), there exists a race of humanoids known as Dark Elves. Dark Elves were always known to be one of the most, if not the most under Lolth, vile and evil of races to exist and no atrocity was beyond them. Then an author named R.A. Salvatore came along in the late 1980s to create Drizzt Do'Urden, the first Dark Elf (at the time) of his kind to question everything about his race and abandoned the Underdark, went through tons of hardships just because he was a Dark Elf and always seen as a being of evil because of that but he overcame that stigma and it made for a compelling story.
The primary problem is how poorly this has been written in, it treats dedicated fans like they're morons because it doesn't try to weave any type of story or create any kind of intricate tale or complexity for adding women as custodians. They just slap it in there and say "yeah no its always been a thing you guys are dumb you just never read it all we made it so we know it all." Its just super bad story telling, it subverts the fans expectations and experiences, and it takes away from the fantasy in this way because it looks to be more about money than passion. And 40K fans are dangerously passionate.
Isn't WOTC doing something similar with the Dark Elves and making the good Dark Elves now being the majority of the race, and the Lolth worshiping elves being a tiny splinter faction now, along with acting that this has been the way of things since the beginning? It kind of undermines Drizzt's journey if the Dark Elves are pretty much all good guys now and always have been.

Sisters of Silence literally work alongside the Custodes. It’s in artworks going back to the early 90’s. Just make more Sisters models, they have like two. They look sick, have sick lore and everyone loves them.

Sisters are still different from custodes. They serve a special purpose that a female custodes can't fulfill.
@@battleangel4833 That's the point. The Custodes are strong against physical threats, while the Sisters are strong against warp based threats. The two forces complement each other's strengths and cover each other's weaknesses, just like in real life. There was no reason other than political ones to suddenly make female Custodes.

The weirdest thing about this all to me... why not just induct the Sisters of Silence into the Custodes? They are BY FAR the coolest faction for me in the 40k universe, and they ALREADY WORK WITH THE CUSTODES ON A REGULAR BASIS. Their armor matches custodes, they work with custodes, they serve similar roles in defense as custodes. They are fucking badass.

We don't know exactly how Custodes are made. The Sisters being blanks might be a big reason why it's not working

100% correct. From a Trek perspective, there's a cloned warrior race called the Jem'Hadar, and they were all males. If the producers then said "We've decided to add female Jem'Hadar from now on", most people would be like "Uh, alright" and not care that much. But if the producers said "There were always female Jem'Hadar, fuck your canon, fuck your reality, fuck everything you saw in the show" THEN fans would get rightfully pissed off.

As a huge warhammer fan for years who actually plays the game. This is nothing it changes nothing. They do this “it was always there” thing with every new addition. Votan was the same same with rogal dorn tanks out of nowhere they have been around for over 10,000 years.
