- My first day chasing smallies on the Willamette for the year was met with crazy water conditions and mixed results. My large fish for the day had a whole broken-off dropshot setup down his throat, which I luckily was able to remove.

Good ol’ neko rig!!! Awesome video brother!
I like that clap transition 👌
I will take a fish on the first cast any day! You really mixed up the presentation well to put together a nice bag.
Roboworms work haha!
Oh and that underwater release at the end!!
Gotta get a longer stick for my underwater, but eh, I'll figure it out.
Nice man! I fish a lot there too. How was it behind the island? Caught a 4lb smallie back there early spring.
Nice dude. I fished over by the island a few weeks ago but found only squeaks. This day was only at the bridge.
Another nice video! Not sure if you know but around July 1st they put flashboards up at the falls. This raises the water level by 3' at the station above the falls. Last year they put them in on June 28th and it took 2 days for the river level to go up 3'. I am not sure if that affects the river all the way up to Newberg (seems unlikely and I can't find the historical data for some reason). Just thought you might want to know.
That would make sense - I was mostly fishing the area in the late summer and fall last year and was used to a similar flow rate but much higher water. Thanks for the heads up
@@JoelFishes Just looked at the river levels. Looks like they are putting up the flash boards now. At falls is up 2' and at Newberg is up 1'. Here is a link of all the sites along the Willamette. Just scroll to find Newberg (or any other measurement site). water.weather.gov/ahps2/river.php?wfo=pqr&wfoid=18685&riverid=203289&pt%5B%5D=all&allpoints=144254%2C141263%2C142810%2C144173%2C144257%2C142028%2C147483%2C142704%2C144162%2C142246&data%5B%5D=hydrograph&data%5B%5D=probstage&data%5B%5D=probflow&data%5B%5D=probvol
Most of these have some prediction but not all.
@@pdxfisher1 Ah geez, and back up near 15k CFM which is a big nervewracking in the little dingy.
@@JoelFishes I fished the upper Willamette on Sunday out of Willamette park. Current is WAY slower than a week before. I think the water is back to the speed that you like. Just thought I would let you know.
@@pdxfisher1 I just looked and Newberg flow rate is just over 8000 which is lower than it was all summer. River went from very high and very fast to very low and slow in a hurry
