  • I'm an idiot.
    GoPro is formally dead (RIP OG channel camera), Galaxy Note 9 survived, battery pack SEEMS alive, microphone is dead. Glad my work phone, keys, and wallet were in my drybox, along with my new camera.

    I've got the same Pond Prowler II, I fish it on an often windy reservoir but I have certain rules I force myself to follow. No matter how uncomfortable it is, I always wear my PFD. It's really becoming cumbersome now that some of the days are getting real hot. I also stay within a certain proximity to the shoreline, never stray too far from where I launched, and have a plan in place for where I'll launch/fish based on the wind direction. Watching the weather like a hawk (before & during) and using the wind to your advantage are key. Glad you're alright man.

    Imaging slipping and hitting your head and being knocked out?
    Spending hundreds of dollars on all the electronics but don’t have a life jacket or even a simple oar or paddle? That’s why I have a wooden paddle, for situations like that I would have used the paddle to push off. Live and learn as they say.

    • @JoelFishes
      @JoelFishes  Před 4 lety +1

      @@dgalvan529 I didn't, but that is a pretty good idea. I should probably have made a followup video to this one, where I talked about what I learned from this incident. Namely that as an overweight dude with very mediocre balance, and I legitimately could not haul myself back up into the boat. I believe if I was in open water and *HAD TO*, I could have, but in that moment I used the tree to get back in cause I was just tipping the boat up.

      @@reellifewithcinco7858 lol you and me both. When I first fall in I try to step on the bottom and can't reach it so I'm like "ah crap I'm a bit too deep". It's all good, more just embarrassing and wet. Water was almost 60 so it wasn't shocking to my system or anything.

  • @paintyouup8247
    @paintyouup8247 Před 5 lety +1

    Are u anchoring from the stern? Why not bow?

    • @JoelFishes
      @JoelFishes  Před 5 lety

      I know it's incorrect, and I only anchor like that in shallow water. Couple reasons: 1) laziness. 2) current setup has the chair (with camera tripod) and my gear up front and getting up there is difficult. 3) I'm in a constant state of "about to do the boat fix where I turn the motor around and put it on the front" so I keep just half-assing until then. Within a week or two I'll have moved things and added hopefully an anchor winch or something to make it simpler. Should be a better situation across the board.

    • @paintyouup8247
      @paintyouup8247 Před 5 lety +1

      @@JoelFishes Cool man, not hating, I have the same boat. I asked because I find that when i try to anchor at the bow with my battery in front motor in back, then my ass in front I start to do a front wheeley when anchoring and it can be sketchy. Thats why I thought you were anchoring in the stern. Wanted to see if you had the same problem.

    • @JoelFishes
      @JoelFishes  Před 5 lety

      @@paintyouup8247 You're good. Going forward it'll be me and the motor in the front, batteries in the back - it hopefully balances a bit. Current setup isn't optimal for sure. Also lack a good solid anchor mount in front so far, one thing I'm adding.

    I have a $85 4k clone that's waterproof even without the case and it works great for video. If I was you, I'd save the money on a GoPro and buy a push pole and a PFD. Good luck. Great show.
