- Small pond style boats like the Bass Raider, Quest, and Pond Prowler all lack sufficient rod storage, making a DYI or aftermarket solution almost a necessity. I have settled on the Brocraft Crappie Rod Holder as my solution, and in this video I walk you through how I use and install it.

Love it! I made virtually the same thing out of 3/4” square tubing and Berkeley rod holders for my Jon boat years ago. It pinned into the Orr locks (I added a second on the same side of the boat) but I had 3/4”x3/4” angle iron that I welded between the two racks and added a suitcase handle so I could remove the whole unit with rods attached, made it easier for storage and transport. But that thing was awesome! I loved it on my Jon boat!

Organization is everything! I worked as a farrier for years and I could grab the tool I wanted blindfolded! Sure makes things work better especially when you have limited space. Nicely done sir!

Organization on a small boat is a real key to having a better time fishing, and that looks like it will work perfect for your boat especially how you've worked it out. Brocraft items are usually pricey, but the things I've used have been real quality items as well.
Absolutely! Especially for guys with OCD 😂 it just makes the day go better if the area is tidy and you know where everything is. I'm the same way about my kayak. These arms are the first Brocraft items I have purchased and they feel and look like premium quality. I guess sometimes you do get what you pay for. Nice video. This was the only one I could find using the brocraft rod system. I am putting them on a 18 ft gatortail to hold four crappie rods.

Thats a neat set up. That is probably the only thing I dislike about my Quest Angler is the rod storage. Glad you got to hit the water. I envy you we had ice and snow yesterday in Va.

Thats pretty cool , I can fit 4 set ups on my pond prowler . Having that rig hanging off to the side might be detrimental to my fishing because i get into tight places with over hanging limbs etc . Cool video sir .
Thank you! Yeah, set at the angle I have them, they probably extend about 10 to 12 inches over the side. So if you fish some tight spots, I could see that as a concern. I don't get into areas like that with the Bass Raider, but I do on my kayak. I appreciate you watching and commenting! Tight lines my friend.

Awesome solution! May I ask how you connected the two by four to the vessel to make it more secure than using the gunnel?
Thank you! I used 4 small L brackets and silicone sealant around the small screws. I don't mind drilling a few small holes in the top portion of the boat. The wood provides more stability than the plastic, as I was especially worried about flex in the hot sun.

What brand rods are you using
@johnogle4585 I am using the Berkely Shock Rods 6.6". I find the 6 1/2' size good for smaller boats and kayaks and the are reasonable priced at around $40-50 each. I have them paired with Quantum Throttle baitcaster reels and 30-40 lb braid. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate you!

I made a similar system using aluminium square. I would send pics if i could haha. I dont seem to find these getting in the way of my fishing and am currently looking to make same changes to i can take 6-8 rods in total for when i fish with a friend on my Bass Hunter

@@yakkittymack Mine is very basic tbh with a few bits of tube some joints and some ply that the battery then sits on to hold it all sturdy. If you have a place for me to share it i can send you some pics - this is 1.0 i am working on 2.0 that uses less tube and mounts to the boat properly

How are you using your phone as a depth and temp tool?

@larrylewis9132 hello and thank you for watching! Those seats come standard on the Bass Raider 10e NXT. They are called the Ergo 360 and they are available for purchase online and will fit on the standard Bass Raider 10e. Hope this helps!
I'm looking to get the bass pro pond prowler. And I was wondering if you like em and if they are comfortable. I weight a lot more than you and seats are important to me.
@@larrylewis9132 yes, they are definitely worth the extra money for the upgrade. They are considerably more comfortable than the stock seats. I believe Bass Pro sells the same seat under their own branding.

Why not just add gear track? Coming from the kayak world it just amazes me that you guys don't use gear track and toggle bolts.
@truecrimson1 I wish it were that simple, as I also have a fishing kayak and actually prefer it. The trouble with adding gear tracks to these boats is all the weird cutouts on the sides that will only fit like a 4" mount. And we can't access the inside of the hull. We could use anchors or well nuts but then that runs the risk of getting water in the hull and these are a pain in the butt to drain. Thank you for watching!
@@yakkittymack Good explanation. Have you looked at toggle bolts and a dab of marine sealant in the hole before screwing the bolt in? I have a 2012 Wilderness Ride 135, with no hull access behind the seat. I tried well nuts with accessories, with mixed results. Marine tri star rivets worked well for some things but not others. But then I discovered toggle bolts. They seem to have worked well for everything. In all cases I added some marine sealant to the hole before putting the bolt or rivet in, and that seems to sealed everything adequately.
I have been looking at Pond Prowler/Bass Raider type boats to take my wife along. Health issues make it hard for her to operate a kayak anymore. I was put off by the low weight capacities, but have been told that most people exceed them. Can you expand on why you prefer the kayak?
@@truecrimson1 it definitely sounds like you have more handy knowledge than I do 😉 I never even considered a toggle bolt.
I prefer the kayak in large part to its maneuverability in and out of the water. For example, I fish a lot of shallow water structures and that means I get hung a lot. A kayak is so easy to drift up to the snag and free myself. The Bass Raider, I have to raise the trolling motor, use one hand to paddle myself while trying to use the other to free a lure. I definitely have to break off more often when I'm in the Bass Raider. I also like having everything in arms reach in my kayak. The raider has more space, but almost everything you need is behind you and laying on the floor. I love the Bass Raider for being able to take my dad fishing or my wife for a ride along, but if I'm solo, it's the kayak every time.
@@yakkittymack I never considered toggle bolts either, until someone else suggested it. All of my knowledge came from You Tube videos of guys who had done cool things that I wanted to do. 12 years ago the marine rivets were the thing for areas without inside access. Stainless nuts and bolts were used for places with access. Then later everyone started using well nuts instead of rivets. The toggle bolts came when I decided to motorize. Watched a bunch of videos of guys doing it and put together ideas from two guys to do my motor mounts.
