  • This video is long overdue. Watch as I go through the pros and cons of this boat. This is an unbiased review. I've been meaning to do a full review of my Pelican Bass Raider 10e. I've gotten allot of questions and comments about this boat. My wife bought me my Pelican a couple years ago and it's been one of the best purchases ever made. This is an extremely stable boat, light weight, and very affordable. The boat can be bought at Dick's and a few other retailers. The Pelican can be launched by only one person and without a boat ramp. It's great to stand in and add mods to. Below are some specs:
    -Light: 10 feet 2 inches long
    -Width: 50 inches
    -Weight: 145 pounds
    -Capacity: 600 pounds
    -Seating: 2
    -Maximum Outboard Motor: 3.5hp

    Mods are looking good! Your giving me some good ideas! I guess the major part of moding for me will be trying to keep the weight as low as possible and still maximizing efficiency. • @arciefan
    @arciefan Před rokem +1

    You can take an old trolling motor and make you a tiller to keep the back end from spinning around all the time, it will track str8 that way. You can add a momentary trolling motor foot switch for not much money, which will save the tiller handle switch on your trolling motor from going out from constant on and off, plus the convenience of just hitting the switch with your foot to ease up a little bit, often times without even having to touch the trolling motor. In all the years I used a momentary switch I never had to replace it. I agree with others that putting a plug on the trolling motor and having the battery on opposite end of the boat is the way to go for some weight distribution. Just some thoughts from someone who fished out of a plastic boat for years. I really enjoyed watching a few of your videos and have you in my favorites and am subscribed now and really appreciate you making these videos. You do a great job!

    Your review was so well done. You hit all the data details as well as all the finer points. BRAVO JOB! This is the boat I'm currently looking to buy . Because of Covid19 they are even harder to find as Canada is not shipping as often to the USA. BTW, here's a tip if you like to camp and fish:. You can put a free standing backpacking tent or trekker pole tent inside the boat by taking out the seats. Makes for a nice overnight on the water at the shoreline or lift it out to the shore and it keeps you off the ground away from ground critters and damp banks. My husband and I plan to do this and pack an extra tarp for any downpour (again a trekker pole tarp). 🎣❤️🏕️.

We always took my friends canoe on it and slammed the fish. His just wasn't that stable. This will be great I'm sure. I'll add some nice mods and hopefully have a good season. Putting a mat at the bottom makes sense.
    The drain plugs are there to drain condensation from within the hull.
    Thank you very much for mentioning that it's made in Canada. The price is $1400 in 2023. Still a good deal.

    I recently noticed that one of my neighbors has this exact boat so I just started looking in to getting one for myself. I currently have a canoe that I've been using for the past 30 years but I'm getting older and less agile so I've looking for something that I feel more comfortable and stable in and won't break the bank. I live on the water so something like this would be perfect for me.

    Real easy to put a drain in. I got the demo at academy for 400.00. Standing it up does a little superficial damage that gives you bargaining power. Definitely put a small outboard on it. I really liked mine, with exception to how easy it gets blown around. Enjoyed the video 👍🏼

    You have a really nice setup there. I have a kayak and like using it. But being 50 years young, it isn't the best option with the lifting and trying to stand from a very low seated position. I went to a 10 foot job similar to yours and like you said, I love the ability to stand without worry of tipping over. I fish the DMV as well and maybe I will run into you guys on the water one day . Great video thank you for the detailed explanation on the features! Looking for a small simple fishing boat for me and my buddy. Smallmouth bass and perch. Pelican recommends a maximum three and a half horsepower motor I think for this boat. Do you think that would be a decent upgrade over a two and a half horsepower, or would a 5 horsepower motor be too heavy? The lake We mainly fish on is large but not very wavy. Cheers

      Hey John. Great question. The 15 pound is definitely enough. It hold both my brother and I steady in the boat with a 50ft anchor rope. I was actually considering going down to a 10lb anchor just to see how well it would do. The 15lb in this style anchor is heavy enough, no need to go any heavier.

    Hi, just purchased a 2007 Pelican 10E yesterday used from a good friend. I've had the Uncle Bucks Pond Prowler 7'6" previous. Loved it. I could go in 6" water. I had the same trolling motor of 55lbs thrust. Anyhow, I'm taking your advice on the floor, that doesn't look very comfortable standing on the ridges and just maybe a tripping hazard. What thickness plywood did you use, and where did you get that durable mat, brand, thickness?
    What does the wiring harness male plug look like and where do you think I can get one, or just modify?
    I like the boat oar you have velcroed to the side. What did you use as adhesive to secure to boat?
    If that oar is glued together, may I suggest getting a solid one, I had one similar, fought off a sand bar, and my oar turned into a plain ole stick with sides falling off. Thanks for the vid, very well done, and you have a new subscriber brother :)

      Hi Mike. For some reason your comments aren't showing up on my phone to respond to. Anyway, thanks for subscribing and leaving a comment. I have a link to the exact mat I use for the flooring in the Mods video which you watched also so hopefully you have your answer already. Let me know if you still can't find it and I will look it up for you. I believe I used 1/2" thick plywood for the decking. IT doesn't need to be think especially if you add the matting mentioned above. Which wiring harness are you referring to? The Velcro has it's own adhesive on it from Lowe's. Thanks for the Sub bro.

    I was thinking of buying one of these I don't have a hitch on my Jeep and thought about strapping it to The top on the luggage rack. I'm just wondering if these are light enough where you can do that I can lift some weight so maybe I'm giving it too much credit on its weight. I'm wondering if it's a better idea to just keep the battery in the car with me if I'm going to roof mount this or is it better to have it in the boat to help weigh it down.

    Did you screw or glue the plywood to the floor? And how about the floor mats, did you glue to the plywood or just lay them on top? I was wondering if wind might get under the plywood and blow them out when transporting. Thanks.

    Have you tried using a portable jumper to temporarily power the trolling motor. I have no idea how well it would work but it seems a small and light option for getting out of the water.

      Excellent. Congrats on the new boat. The upgraded seats should install onto the existing seat hardware. You should only need basic tools to swap the seats out.

    Great review! DMV stand up. Wiz hoodie 💪🏽. I looking for a boat small enough to handle on my own and large enough to take my kids. I've never owned a boat and barely know anything about them. This is probably stupid question, but, is rowing difficult on a boat this size?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks. Yes rowing a boat like this would be difficult. The boat is wide. Trust me. I had to row a couple times when my battery died. Wasn't fun.

    Cool design you ought to try a solar battery charger to try to help you keep your battery charged while you fishing cool little ride though I hope you enjoyed in your future I see you with a bigger bass boat.

    I have a couple of questions one is the battery a deep cycle and how do you keep the seats from flying out of the boat running down the road at 65-70 mph?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes deep cycle batteries 29DC. I strap the seats down with a couple ratchet straps. The rear ratchet straps go through the legs of the seat, then through the rear boat handles on the side of the boat then onto the trailer. The front strap go straight through the legs of the seat then to the trailer. works like a charm.

      Wouldn't recommend it ,that boat looks real small in a river I have one,I love fishing lakes and quarries its a great 1man boat,I dont use the front seat and that gives ma a 4 ft deck to stand on,no stability issues I have 1/2 inch plywood down an a strip of carpet and usually bring 4 to 5 rods,great boat you'll have it for years

    How you doing 3 in the boat? is it cramped? my wife is pretty small, 4'9", and my son is only 7, I'm 5'9", so I think it would work, but also have questions about moving around? Lets say you had 2 people, how hard would it be to change positions if you need to? Like lets say I'm in the back, and need to sit up front? could you shuffle around a bit, without having the boat flop around in the water? I think for me, I'd want to go with a small gas outboard. Would be neat if a small gas outboard could recharge batteries, or there was some sort of hybrid option to use a 2-3hp motor for getting up to 5-6mph and electric trolling motor for like 2-3mph.
    I'm glad you pointed out that you went over this vs a Kayak. I've been going between getting a Kayak vs a Jonboat, and this seems like a great compromise that will fit my needs.

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  Před 3 lety

      I fit three people when my son was 3 & 4 years old which was easy. It may be a little tough especially if your son likes to move around allot. The is stable enough. Just keep it under the weight restriction. Moving from the front of the boat to the back works best with a simultaneous switch. You and your wife would switch seats at the same time. It can be tricky but my brother and I do it all the time.
