Fishing The POWER SHOT In GRASS

- I tested out and gained an oddly large amount of confidence in a new rig - the POWER SHOT. Basically a dropshot on steroids, the power shot lets you fish a larger presentation bait in the same format as a dropshot, however with a lot more backbone to use bigger baits/hooks as well as more easily pull through the weeds than with finesse dropshot gear. Oh, and I caught my first perch of the year?

You gave me a good idea on this one! Would have some great applications on one lake in particular near me.
LOOK AT ME WITH MY BRIGHT IDEAS! (that I definitely took from other anglers)
That is a sweet spot! I am a more finesse fisherman. I love fishing in grass like this!
Another great video man! I fish in 25ft of visibility on a very deep ledge lake in NY. Small soft plastics are where it’s at!!
I'd be on a much more traditional finesse dropshot in those situations for sure
Nice move to get on some fish. I gotta try that, I fished the DS in grass a lot last year but never really got into the thick stuff.
I too prefer stuff like flipping wood but they really seem to gravitate more to vegetation the further along in summer you get, I believe because of the oxygen produced by the plants which attracts baitfish and then bass etc etc
The shade and cover obviously help. I'm so bad at fishing vegetation though
That power shot looks like a great technique. I have not fished it, but looks like it's effective. Thanks for sharing Joel and all the tips. That was a nice size yellow perch too.
Situationally speaking, I think it could be especially effective. I was surprised how comfortable it was to throw right off the bat
I like that, it's a heavy duty drop shot, and that's what's needed in the grass and weeds.
It pops right out of those bottom weeds also
Power shot very underrated, well done 👊🏽
Thanks for all your support, brother!
I like your stuff! I’m subscribed locked and loaded to be an Angler like you!!!👍🏾👌🏾...
That's pretty cool! Never tried it!
I think it has the potential to be a general use tactic. For me, though, with a ton of weeds in most of my lakes, it is a great situational technique.
Good video man! Those bass are a really dark green. And the perch are hungry too. Lol
Our bass are often super dark because our water is so consistently clear. "Dirty" water here is still like 5' visibility
Awesome technique dude going to try it next time I’m out
Nice job! That looks like a great technique. I usually use a Carolina rig in weedy conditions but I will give the power shot a try next time I am around weeds. To save money on drop shots (and would work here as well) I use hollow core lead. I break off the size I want and slide the line through it and pinch it with pliers. Ends up being pretty cheap and you can customize your weight by the length you break off. To break off a piece you rock it back and forth with pliers, don't try to cut through or you will mash the hole shut.
That's not a bad idea at all actually
@@JoelFishes It is not mine. I saw it online a couple of times before trying it. It is the way to go. The only thing to be careful about is to really straighten the lead out once it is on your line. If it has a curl to it (like it will coming off the big coil it will twist your line. Otherwise, it is just nice and easy.
@@pdxfisher1 Experiment time! I also have a *ton* of old lead bullet weights that I was gonna use mostly on tokyo rigs and such that I could use, they just won't come through the weeds quite as nicely as the thin dropshot weights.
@@JoelFishes You can buy the hollow core lead on Amazon for about $8-$10 for a 1 pound coil. That is less than 2 cents for a 1/2oz weight.
@@pdxfisher1 Whoa there buddy, lets go easy on the fancy math here, okay?
Man this is one of my go-tos in the local high pressure spot. I usually throw a junebug lizard with it.
I considered throwing a brush hog but I liked the idea of the zman bait floating
@@JoelFishes solid option as well. I'm coming to realize there isn't a real wrong way to bass fish they love to bite it's just figuring out what they want to bite. I'm excited I've got a tournament this weekend
@@Couldbeazombie Hella dude, message me after and tell me how it goes.
