  • 2 1/2 cups grated cabbage
    half of a grated onion
    1/4 cup or up to a 1/2 cup low carb flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    I grated my cabbage and onion with a box grater in a large bowl.
    In a bowl combine all ingredients but the grease and mix well, and set aside.
    In a skillet barley cover bottom of the skillet with some grease, and heat over medium heat, I used bacon grease.
    When skillet and grease are hot then spoon some into skillet and fry & brown on each side for about 2-3 minutes till done.
    Then put on a plate and serve as a side dish.
    Note: You can use regular flour, almond flour, coconut flour, parmesan cheese or cornmeal.

    My dad used to fry shredded onion and cabbage in bacon drippings until slightly golden brown. He did it in a cast iron skillet on a medium/low flame so it didn't scorch (that will make it bitter). He only added S&P....no egg or flour. It was delicious!

    Sara I love cabbage. This is going to go so well with our pork ribs off the grill. I am going to use butter flavor crisco to fry in. The little suggestions for umping up the flavor, like adding the onion juice, is so helpful.

    ~~~ WOW!
    There's a ton of water in cabbage. 92% water, to be exact.
    And, when you put any salt on cabbage, it makes all that water run out, etc.
    Wringing out MOST of the water makes the patties very different vs having all the water inside.
    Looks delicious! 😋
    Have a great week!
    Hi Sara, I love this recipe idea! One recommendation I'd make is to season my cabbage first with salt and let it sit and then strain/squeeze out the water that accumulates through a cheese cloth. Then combine with onion, add the pepper (and more salt if needed) and the rest of the ingredients. It will help the patties have a crisper texture and also combine a bit better because it won't be as wet. Obviously people don't have to but this is what I do and the recipe turned out amazing!! Thank you for sharing as always. I love your recipes -- my favourite is the pea salad.
    It can help to rotate the position of the patties when cooking them! That helps them all cook as evenly as possible- looks like that skillet might be a bit too big for that particular stove coil? You can also twist your pan around a little! These look like they'd be super yummy with a little bit of ketchup maybe... or maybe that's the American in me talking LOL
