I bought my first Glock in 1987 it was a gen1. I also have a gen2. Very high round count through both. Chuck Taylor a noted firearms instructor wrote an article on 18 yrs of abuse through a gen2 17 I don’t think the gen4 or 5 guns could ever surpass the longevity, durability or reliability of the first 3 generations.
Great video. I just bought my first Glock in April of this year. I have never ownede a Glock, was always an M&P and Sig guy. I bought the new G19 Gen 5 with factory night sights. I have put almost daily dry fire and 1450 live fire rounds so far. Absolutely love the G19. It is my EDC. For home defense, I picked up a new G17 Gen 5 and very pleased with both models.
Finally was able to find a G19 Gen 5 using Blue Label special to boot. Your review convinced to buy one to add to all my HKs. Years ago had G36, G19 and G26. Gave my G26 to my son and sold the others. However, Gen 5 G19 is worth owning.
Glock simplicity, dependability keeps them on top of the market.
Gen 5s use a more durable circular slidestop spring. 12:14 trigger return spring is much more durable now. Trigger return spring is the only part he's ever broken.
14:34 FBI testing showed glock 19M has 11,000 mean rounds before failure(MRBF). Extremely durable.
DLC coatings have been around for a long time in the knife world. It’s good stuff.
Great info
Slingshot 100% agree
I had never cared about Glocks until the Gen 5.
As a lefty these are great. My only complaint is the front moon cut. I wish they would use a 19X style frame instead.
I absolutely love my 19X
My complaint with the gen 5 was that the ambi slide release was not capable of being extended on one side, not two, mainly for concealment. I do appreciate them having gen 3 compatibility, as 90% of experiments are compatible. Granted it’s my first glock
Glocks never fit my hand right until the Gen 4s. With the Gen 5 they went back to not fitting my hand right
Great review. I don’t know. It’s hard for me to get used to the idea that this is that much better of a pistol. Than my gen2&3 guns which have soooo many thousands of rounds through them. The gen3 is so dam good and almost indestructible. It’s just hard for me to see how the gen5 is that much better. Time will tell. Great review as always
It isn’t, both a Glock not worth buying over your previous gen of 19 or 17 great guns though all around.
My Glock manual says stop/release. It says to load the weapon, pull back and lock, insert the magazine, and release the slide with the lever, or do the sling shot. That is why it is textured on top, so you can grip it and pull down. The only people that ever told me not to release were not representatives of any company.
I will be definately excited once the .40S&W Gen 5 line is announced by Glock.
Good overall review.
As of fall of 2020, Gen 4 units are no longer available to the commercial market. Gen 3 or Gen 5 only.
I just recently purchase a Gen 4 22 and I’ve bought three times the parts and a barrel to replace anything. Grant it, if anything happens to it I’ll send it back to Glock, but I’ll save the spares in case. Personally, I like the M&P better though. 😎👍🏿💯🇺🇸
Love the gen4 & 5 but the generation 3 Glocks are my preferred generation Glock . I'd buy Generation 2 bomb proof models if I could but finding one in good shape is like finding a unicorn LoL.
Great video as always. Do you notice any frame flex on the right side next to the trigger bar? Another review mentions they thinned the frame on the right side next to the ambi-slide lock. Or any 'floatiness'... side to side play, in the trigger bar?
Was considering sticking with gen 3 or 4 for these reasons.
Gen 5 is the best glock yet.
Reliable proven!!! Hands down!!! :-)
They picked you for a reason! To check it out that is!
What are your thoughts on 10mm such as G-40 vs G-20? A G-20 with a G-40 barrel?
100% magazine compatibility *until the 19X.
Another great video. Of course Ive subscribed, liked, shared, and commented. Is there any other way to support y'all?
(I cant afford to be a patron at the moment)
Yeah, I watched it Chris. Haha. Still liking that Olight?
Hmmm......my Gen 4 does not have forward slide serrations... :-(
New favorite channel.. My safe is full of Glocks and just 1 beretta 92fs . Love my beretta
I noticed that on the new 17 Gen5s the slides are different, some have front serrations, some do not. I bought one this morning with the serrations. I'm confused on why the slides are different
Because they realized people wanted them, so they started adding them.
Why is the gen 5 rounded striker pin better than the gen 4 elliptical striker pin? pros and cons?
More bearing surface
Glock Muy Bueno
Definitely used the “slide release” and didn’t slingshot 🤔
Hah, I saw James from TFB TV in that picture with that dumb look on his face! ... I'm just kidding. James is a good guy. I just like giving him a hard time.
Should I go with the 17M or just go with the G17 Gen5
G17 Gen 5 in my opinion
Thank you sir
I love the new Gen 5 pistols but why in the heck can’t Glock put a basic set of STEEL 3 dot sites on their pistols instead of the plastic ones??
They make them, you can buy them separately or order one with them.
By the way, I hate dots, no time to line them up.
Why P80 hasnt made a frame compatible with Gen 4 upper is beyond reason! Are the P80 folks just anti gen 4? I love the gen 4 and would preffer to own one, but I love the p80 frame, so I'm happy with the gen 3 slide and spring with the P80, I and many other P80 owners would love to have a gen 4 slide! I probably won't ever get a gen 4 or gen 5 gun untill P80 makes a frame compatible! Sticking with gen 3 for now. Older tenifer finish vs the new cera finish gen 4 and gen 5, I prefer the older smoother shinier tenifer finish, but don't mind getting the new finish as its claimed to be better at preventing rust from what I hear. Overall gen 4 and gen 5 are better guns than the gen3. Gen 4 had issues in early production with cycling, and locking up, but that is long gone now. They are the better gun, even if the slide finish is not as pretty as the gen 3.
P80 frames are Junk.
I know i'm late to the party but the statement at 06:04 is not true. I swapped the barrels between the G19 Gen 3 and G19 Gen 5 and they were compatible.
stanti there are differences including the recoil spring assembly is longer on the Gen 5
I stand corrected sir.

How about the FBI Glock?
Jackal FnM the 17M is for all intent an purposes is a Gen 5
Course sounds great. It’s a pity that the peasants aren’t permitted to attend/King’s Men Only.
I still think you've got to be nuts to carry a gun with a 5.5 pound trigger and no safety. But hey, to each his own.
No there is a safety on the trigger
Use basic gun safety and you’ll be just fine.
It's still a glock
@Carlos Villa
Huh?
@Carlos Villa
I wouldn't "herd" you anywhere, even if I got to keep all the cattle afterwards...
@@DEATH_TO_TYRANTS don't entertain the supposed Glock haters that's in every Glock video comment section. Sure is funny how all the Glock bashers watch every single Glock video.
With the slide locked back, does your Gen 5 firing pin free float?
Yes
Any idea what the purpose of the free float firing pin feature is for?
It has to move back and forth to fire. When you pull the slide to the rear, the striker is not being compressed trigger bar/criciform. Also because the striker is fired, the striker is not being held rearward by the firing pin block, which is why it rattles.
