If that ever happens to me, I'll just say, "But aren't you forgetting something? The Glock contains three safeties.
The first is the Trigger Safety.
The trigger cannot be pulled back unless the safety is engaged, allowing it to move past the frame.
The second is the Firing Pin Safety.
The firing pin cannot move past the safety
unless the trigger bar has pushed it up, allowing the firing pin to move past this safety.
The final is the Drop Safety.
The trigger bar is held in place by the housing.
The firing pin cannot move forward unless the trigger bar has moved back and cleared the ramp of this housing."

As someone who’s built a Glock from scratch, every single thing in this video is correct. Matt you did an excellent job at making every single component of the pistol exactly as it looks in the actual firearm, as if you actually had a completely transparent Glock to model off of

I was arguing with a neighbor about firearm safety. He had stated that he would never own a Glock because "they don't have any safety mechanisms to prevent misfires if they are dropped." I was trying my best to explain the three safeties but this video did a much better job. Thank you!
You see, the neighbour needs an idiot proof safety. Like a huge bar that says S and F on it or has pretty pictures of a bullet. I only watched this because I play airsoft, I'm in the UK.
With those people you just have to have them explain to you how they think a Glock works. Most get the "deer in headlights" look and realize they've been an idiot even if they don't admit it to you.

The Glock 17 and the 1911 are very different. The Glock 17 is striker fired, the firing pin (or in this case, the striker) itself is released to hit the primer and uses a spring to do so. The 1911 is hammer fired, it uses a hammer to hit the firing pin in order to hit the primer of the cartridge.

For those who are not aware, this is how MOST modern striker-fire handguns work. Hammer-fire and revolvers operate differently.

I've had my Glock 17 Gen 5 for several years and I love it. A LOT of rounds through it without a single jam or misfire. What I REALLY like about this firearm is how easy it is to disassemble, clean and reassemble.

@@randominternetguy646 A glock cannot be cocked as there is no hammer. The action of pulling back the slide is called "racking" the weapon. The gun will need to be racked every time a new magazine is inserted.

This truly should be like a standard video every glock owner must watch when making the purchase. I just got my first Glock 43 recently and have been incredibly hesitant to carry with one in the chamber due to their apparent "lack" of a traditional safety. The animations and clear explanations in this video were able to get rid of my fears of an accidental discharge. Amazing work.
Hats off to the animator! Brilliantly done. I did this kind of “explanatory animation” for History Channel’s “Modern Marvels” series (from ~2000-2010) and this is absolutely top tier stuff. Congrats! And thanks for the awesome breakdown. 👏🏼

@@JamesMathison triggers without the trigger safety can be accidentally discharged from a "side glance" from your finger or an object hitting the trigger. You have to have a continuous steady intentional pull to discharge the trigger safety on a Glock. Make sense?
Silver Grizzly , sure. Whenever I’ve shot (not that often, I’m a Brit :-/ ) the trigger has needed plenty of pressure, so I didn’t think a side glance would be enough of a danger to warrant a whole design around it. But if it is, then fair enough.

Really well done. The fact that the weapon can go through hundreds or thousands of those cycles without jamming and requires minimal maintenance to stay working flawlessly is amazing. I love my Glocks...fantastic weapons.

@@gtscc9977 Not at all George I buy the best I can.. I buy the best range ammo because it's a range gun but I also buy home defense cartridges. I probably limp wrist it because at 76 I don't have the strength in my hands I used to but it's more than that. I just don't like Glocks I guess I vastly prefer CZ or sigs even my Smith and wessons. It's all good. Have a merry Christmas too
