The new Glock 47, developed for the Border Patrol, is now available to the US civilian market. The Glock 47 uses a G19 recoil spring thus allowing users to swap parts between the 47 and 19 sized guns.

Right.. And how many people own a Colt manufactured AR15 or 1911? Being "good" in a market where your competitors have 90% parts compatibility with you isn't that great.
Glock is quickly just becoming another option when someone is shopping for a "Glock".
I have 7 "Glock" frame pistols and none of them are from them. They are literally competing with themselves and the rest of the firearms market.

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz Před rokem +17

@@midnightfenrir you're not paying attention. Not at all. Compare a Gen 1 Glock v. a Gen 5 Glock. They are significantly different. Much more than cosmetically, for that matter, compare a Gen 2 against a 4.
Compare what Glock had in the market in 1992 to now. The number of models and the choices of calibers. None of the imitators come close, the big boys like Sig, HK, etc. produce choices. Canik? Now there's a one-trick pony.
Actually, now calibers are mentioned, how readily do any of these imitators produce anything in .40, .357Sig, .45ACP, 10MM, and .380?
Few, very few, produce anything other than 9mm and the imitators have innovated nothing. As a matter of fact, many of them have devolved into imitating other imitators.
Glock is well run. Comparing them to Colt is tragically inaccurate. Colt? Well something must be in their drinking fountain because they have an otherworldly capacity to screw up everything they touch. Their 1911s are their "safe place."

I carried a Gen2 31 for 20 years. Still one of my favorite guns 26k+ rounds later. It just works. 80% of those rounds were 9mm through a conversion barrel because, well, 357Sig was never inexpensive. But I still carry it in cold weather with 147gr HST or Gold Dot. Something to be said for near 357Mag power with 16 rounds on tap.
I bought on of the P80 Glock factory reproduction models just to have it. I have Gen4 40 & 41 MOS models. They just work. I traded ammo to get a G34 Gen5. Honestly, maybe I got a factory accident. It runs with my Sig Legion X-Five. And it's only minuses are the Glock trigger (which is fine to me) and 1982 spec 21' plastic sights (on a target pistol in 2023). The fact I have 50+ extended mags for AR 9mm make it an easy choice given it works so Glockishly well.

Steyr was one of the first companies to use a rotating Barrel in a pistol at least. I do agree that if blocked did come out with a gun with a rotating Barrel action, that would be very sweet. If you ever shot a Beretta PX Storm you would like it because it has a lot less recoil or at least felt recoil and they're really accurate. Langdon tactical makes all kinds of cool stuff for the PX Storm by Beretta so if you're interested in that you ought to look there cuz they've got that Tech down pat. There is another company that makes a gun with a rotating Barrel that I can't think of his name right now. It's actually a more popular brand but I just can't think of it it's weird but anyway Google it I'm sure you'll find it. But to the Glock, that was the only interesting caveat of this whole episode.

The Glock 47 has been underwhelming. I have had numerous agents trade in 47s for 19s. I have not had a single agent trade a 19 for a 47.

Great review MAC, and so true about Glock innovation.

    • @ravenrise320
      @ravenrise320 Před rokem

To me, the G17 is a "duty" sized gun. If agents or police can't handle the G17, give em a 19. IF ones agency or department is utterly and completely married to 9x19 Para, that is.
To me, the short slide+long grip or long slide+short grip concepts are a big yawn. As per what little value both concepts bring to the table, in a handgun.
If one is carrying a handgun concealed, in plain cloths?
The longer grip WILL print under minimal garments...but so will a G19 WITH a longer slide....given the garment type and wearers body size/shape.
Which with today's fashions may or may not be that big of a deal for some.
To me I'd much rather have saw Glock put the development money into things like a better trigger, better cartridge case support on the barrel for EVERY model Glock produces, and finding ways to stuff bigger than 9m cartridges...intoxicated an envelope that's just slightly bigger than a G19 , 17, or G43x.
It's seems like Glock could do this with their G48 line. As it would probably be the perfect vehicle for a .45 ACP or 10mm platform, if made only a few thousandths bigger.
      And yes.
I'm fully aware of Glocks G22/23 and G20/21 pistols and their compact brethren What I'm talking about though, is a gun that chambers a better than 9mm cartridge....in something much less bulky and chunky than Glocks current non-9mm stable line up that was developers of in the early 1990's.
Also, there are Glocks TRUE sub compacts to think on.
      The G43 and G43X.
The G43 is not much better than a .38 snub to me. Too small mag capacity combined with too small dimensions overall.
And the G43X is ok, but a non-starter when one can get more on board ammo cap in an equally small gun from somebody else.
      However, to the G43X' credit.
It seems to sometimes fit a broader variety of people's hands better than say a Springfield Hellcat or Sig P365 series. As far as length of grip goes

I can't think of any Federal Agencies that don't issue duty weapons, and for better or worse, the vast majority of those are now married to the 9mm. The Border Patrol wanted cross compatibility for their pistols for their own reasons and that is what they are stuck with now. It's not necessarily a bad thing to have choices, but for the most part the 47 does nothing better than a 19 except bring along 2 extra rds.

There were some tests done with a Walther on muzzle velocity from their polygonal Barrel with a step chamber. This was a test verse another gun of equal Coston reputation and so on but it was traditional rifling and consistently the Walther had faster muzzle velocities not huge like 30 or 40 or maybe a little more but Walter had made that claim that it had yunos 30 or 40 ft per second faster muzzle velocities due to its Barrel design and from some tests that were done it absolutely does do what it says and it does create or allow a little bit faster muzzle velocity from identical ammo shot from both the guns the Walther and I can't remember what the other one was. But the difference was not so insignificant that it was no difference That Matters to make a difference and we all love Paul Harrell so it's okay to mention his name I think he's great and probably most people here do as well but in this instance that doesn't apply in my opinion. I have to watch that video again of that test but the people doing the test agreed it was not an insignificant amount of gain did it was useful but you have to see it yourself I guess and decide on your own. Big thing for me is that when you pull the trigger on an empty chamber, the trigger stays back. You can see from across a room that the gun is safe. I don’t have to wonder if there is a round in the chamber when the trigger is back. Mentioned that to hickock45 once, and he agreed with me and said that he doesn’t know of another gun that does that. I own sigs and other hand guns, but they are range guns only. Same here. Always drives me nuts when a company discontinues a perfectly good product just to try to get more attention. Glocks are effective, reliable, & reasonably priced, and they sell a buttload of them for precisely those reasons.

It is silly these aren't compatible already, Beretta does the same thing in the 92 though, and you can't swap compact barrels on full size frames or full size slides onto centurion or compact frames. And it is disappointing as I like my 92s. Also love glocks, and this option finally being available makes a lot of sense for me who thought if I ever got another one, it would be the 19x or 45 as I really have honed into the 19 as my favorite. Exciting? No, but being able to have a 19L or 45 plus compatible parts is a good thing. A good thing that should have been a thing a long long time ago.

One of the reasons I've gravitated more towards Glock is the fact that GLOCK USA is located in my back yard and it makes sense logistically (service, parts, etc.). However, in the last few years, I've begun branching back out to SIG, HK and more recently FN. I agree that Glocks are the AK of the handgun world and often use that analogy myself. The lack of meaningful innovation compared to other major manufacturers is why I now spend more of my money on their competitors. I'm lucky enough to pay blue label prices and I still choose lately to pay more for a SIG 320, HK VP9, FN 509 MRD or 509C. Glock does have people who will be watching these videos and reading these posts but sadly the biggest changes on a Gen 6 will still be different grip texture or horizontal slide serrations...

What could glock do to be more innovative? Like SIgs 320 its modular and cool but I wonder how many actually switch grips and slides. So if you dont do that its a novelty. Biggest thing glock could do is grip and trigger. Which theyve finally addressed trigger.

If you got smaller hands like my baby momma, 48 is your best bet. If you got big hands like me, 19 is the way to go. Even 17 if you’re comfortable with it

I am enjoying your video. Being 53 years old I was dazzled with the Glock' 22 for bowling pin matches. Why would my buddies want a old school 1911 to compete with when new technology seemed unstoppable! I missed the fact that a butter smooth 3lb trigger with a 5inch barrel in a all steel 1911 handgun trump's 3 - 4 extra rounds.
Live and learn. I won bc I could see better being younger then most shooting the bowling pin matches.
I just sold my Glock 19 and I will probably replace it with a Beretta APX A1 full-size bc it's chock full of features and a good price right now. Thank you Tim 💯❤️
