Lucas Botkin delves into the upgrades of gen 5 Glocks while also explaining some important points about mindset and training. Sidecar holster. Ragnarok holster.
This kids the best. I've been shooting since the 70s, this young man is great, he dishes out the facts correctly, no bullshit here. Well done son. Best video I've seen yet.
The first day I went to the range, it failed me with two kinds of ammunition, the Glock 19 Gen 5. I'm going to continue practicing with it. If it keeps failing me, then I'm going to send it for review.
May sound messed up but I really enjoy that you don’t edit out misses on the steel targets but instead you shoot again instantly and move on. Watching how it doesn’t phase you or get you all riled up missing is amazing. Showing that everyone can miss no matter the training and to keep pushing forward so thank you for that.
Forget the outstanding shooting, Lucas is a phenomenal PR guy. Go to 10:04 and realize that's all one take, no ahhh, or hmm in between thoughts; not to mention the perfect synchronization with the cameraman to move together. That's almost two minutes of uninterrupted, eloquent speech. That shit's hard to do!
Absolutely right. I think this speaks to his knowledge and understanding of the field. He has a lot to say about the subject and righfully so. Love this guys stuff.
El Pingu the finish on my barrel wore really quick within the first 200 rounds but I haven’t seen anymore wear off in the next 2000 rounds. I’ve holstered and unholstered it a couple thousand times and the exterior of the slide still looks like how I bought it. The early gen 5s had the barrel wear issue due to tighter tolerances but Glock made a rolling change with the newer barrels.
Lucas, bro, that was one of the best, honest, no bullshit Glock tutorial I’ve seen. Hey, I love Glock, got two myself but nothing is perfect especially if you don’t train. Your wise beyond your years my friend. Thanks for your time, effort, and knowledge. Knowledge IS power!
Him doing that and loading the round back into the magazine satisfies my OCD so much. Something I’ve imagined doing while never having fired a handgun.
@@7743dustin I'm lefty and i need to buy mi first gun I dont know if i would buy a ambi pistol or need to shoot with what ever gun like lefty navy seals who train with other right pistols.
This is the most honest Gen 5 review you will find online. Your production quality is superior and your knowledge on these guns is unmatched IMO. The things you point out on the Gen 5 aren't even specific to the Gen 5 or Glock in general this video could be referenced for any pistol on the market. The message I got was get what you like and train with it. outstanding work by you and your people behind the scenes doing the camera work, editing, etc.
I've only seen this guy use glocks, and yet he said "meh, glock just made another glock, and all of the hype is just hype. It's not about the gun but the shooter, so fucking practice". Sounds like a pretty honest assessment to me.
I just watched a couple of your CZcams videos for the first time. Awesome!! This one in particular you made a point that impressed me the most. The firearm doesn't make the marksman, only practice and hard work makes an individual a great marksman. Hats off to you brother, your skills are beastly.
I’m a long time 17 shooter. Owned various generations of it... then I got my Gen5 19 the other day... it is the best Glock. Hands down. Almost defies physics to shoot better than the bigger and heavier 17.
Punisher 911 I shoot much better with the 17. Probably because I have large hands. The difference is definitely notable. Not that I shoot bad with the 19. That said my EDC is a 19.
Awesome videos! I've never trained but watching you at least gives me an idea of what to do. I really liked the instruction video on trigger pull technique... good stuff.
That final statement said everything about who you truly are. Being able to put effective fire on your target is really what this is all about. Don't EVER stop teaching!
I completely agree on everything said. Especially at the end. You can have the best of everything but if you can't effectively use your firearm when it's actually needed everything else is worthless. I'd rather have a hipoint and be effective with it than the best Glock on the market and not know how to use it. Hit the range people.
This young man really has his act together. Not only is he a very impressive shooter but his videos are excellent in every way. I also agree 100% that if you don’t have the skill/training it won’t matter if you have a $5000 Nighthawk Custom or a $500 S&W to get desired results.
Lucas is a badass. Awesome that he doesn't buy into all that marketing crap and shoots the shit out of it to draw an opinion. 800 rounds a day is no joke.
TeensierPython - I saw in a previous video he shot 17,000 rounds through a single firearm, in one year. They were .223. Thats over $4000 out of a single gun. Let alone his other guns. He spent more on one caliber, in one gun, than I do in a year. Insanity
Very informative very honest, I have just recently adopted your train, train, train mind set. You run your course like a pro, that added to your points in the review. You saved me from buying a nice toy. I have access to getting all stock 19's. Gen 3-5 for the same price I'll be getting a gen 4 keep on training
That slow-mo at 1:54 was kind of cool with the music. Great video, thank you for explaining us all this little details between the g4 & g5. Also, Great advice at the end of the video.
Fantastic review! There is so much misleading and incomplete product hype in the media today that you can rarely get truthful factual information unless you can test the product yourself. Your videos are honest, objective, and concise. Much appreciated. Thank you!
Most honest review I've seen. Everybody else is trying their hardest to justify why you should get the new Gen 5. At least with the Gen 5 it will hopefully bring down the price of previous generations. Personally looking at getting the CZ P10C as the Glock for me is painfully uncomfortable to shoot.
I subscribed to the channel when I saw this video. The most honest video I have ever seen! I was looking for this because wanted to know if it would worth upgrade from gen4 and this "kid" made my day after seen a bunch of other videos. This young man has a lot of wisdom, professionalism, common sense and experience! Keep going mate!
After being subbed for a couple of weeks and binge watching a ton of your vids, I think it's safe to say your stuff is one of the best out there. The camera work and editing, man, it's insane. Let alone your skills. Love what you do!
I subscribe to a lot of these types of vids with Rob Ski, Valor Ridge, you name it - just like many others here. Every single one of them agrees with you - get TRAINING and PRACTICE. The tired cliche of "Beware of the man with just one gun..." is sooo true. Learning the manual of arms through repetition, putting lead down range, clearing malfunctions, etc. - just no substitute. For instance, I still struggle with my AK mag changes, but I'm determined to get to a decent level of proficiency. Guys like Lucas make it look so easy, but we know how much dedication and practice that he committed to in order to get there. Very humbling but encouraging at the same time. Be safe and have fun GI Josh!
While that is kind of true, I think there is a bigger picture that is sometimes being missed. Yes skills are important, but the question is how much? At the end of the day they are tactics, and tactics don't matter as much as strategy (akin to how equipment doesn't matter as much as skills). Look at the military or law enforcement, many are poor shooters but they get the job done. Why? There is a great focus on the strategic level. For them, information gathering, dissemination, and things like maintaining logistics are the key to success. For the average citizen, our "strategy" involves understanding the law, street smarts, and establishing and maintaining vigilance in our security measures and situational awareness with critical thinking. A fast draw is nice, but avoiding danger and spotting a threat early is better. A fast magazine reload is nice, but knowing when you are legally allowed to shoot is better (firing too early AND too late are important) considering the rarity of running dry in self defense with a full capacity magazine. It is good to train with a rifle, but do you have any plan to store or carry it with you so it is available when needed (this is one reason why rifles end up being used only for home defense and why handgun proficiency and concealment is so much more important) Of course, I subscribe to the buffet style of training. Why pick one when you can aim to be proficient in everything? However, there is much talk about the tactical level and in doing so a lot of people miss out on these big picture concepts that could result in you getting harmed before you can fight, or incriminated after winning the fight. Practicing weapon manipulations are free and fast, and so is marksmanship by dry fire, but they should not be considered the benchmark of proficiency, but rather the absolute minimum standard.
+Dave Smith I see it like you're talking about level 3 and he's talking about level 2. in other words, legal knowledge, situational awareness, knowing how to avoid trouble... Yes those things are most important. Then, if you're going to use a firearm, being able the shoot on the move and actually hit your target, that's kind of what he's talking about and that's important too. Bottom line is too many people spend their time at level 1, discussing caliber, firearm brand, ammunition, and all that stuff is of very minimal importance compared to what you've discussed above...
From all the thousands of videos I've watched. You are the only one that said the words that really truly matter. This was the best review i have seen up to now. Thanks for the great work you put into your videos.
You should always shoot with eye protection. If something goes catastrophically wrong with your firearm, your face is pretty close to it, and you won't have time to react and block your eyes. I'm assuming that's why the sunglasses.
Really nice vid. I love the holsters too BTW. I have 3 sidecars (G43, G36 and G30sf). Being a lefty, I'm really glad to see the ambi slide release. I've learned to use my Glocks with the slide release (and mag release for that matter) the way they are and I likely won't change it; but I think having ambi options is always better.
Excellent video, Lucas! I especially like you 2 cents starting at around 10:50 concerning all of the aftermarket crap out there that people buy into when they should be buying ammo and getting out to train. I carried a bone stock gen 3 Glock on my hip for seven years. I shot it extremely well and I never felt that it needed anything.
Excellent video. I knew the Gen 5 vid was going to be awesome. This video exemplifies the perfection that T. Rex Arms is. Nice job. Let's not forget how beautiful the Gen 5 Glock looks.
Well said Sir. I personally love Glock and own several. I also on a few other pistols. You are right when you say “ all that doesn’t matter if you cannot hit your target “. Love your videos
"Leave the forums, leave social media, and spend that time training" I'm doing that in so many more areas right now and I've seen massive improvements in both my skills and overall mental health. And now that we know that foreign entities are using those platforms to destabilize both our elections and our society - it's more important than ever.
I am 5 years late to this video, but I just wanted to let you know it's still serving a purpose! I just bought my first handgun which is a Gen 5 Glock 19. I do appreciate all the details covered in the video and the message put out in the end. You truly are an incredible instructor and thank you again for making this information available for free to people like me.
I’m really glad that they applied the same changes they made for the MOS to the regular Gen5’s. They got rid of the mag well cutout and added the front slide serrations to the normal Gen5 guns which is awesome. I just ordered a new FDE Gen5 G19. Was looking for one for a long time and finally found one online and fortunately it was listed for MSRP rather than $800-850 like we’ve been seeing so often lately.
First of all thanks for your time and dedication on making this video. Thanks for pointing out the differences between gen 4 and gen 5. I have 2 things to ask very important. #1 you said the marksman barrel of the gen 5 is not really a better barrel. Glock says a shooter can do 4" groups at 25 yards with a Glock 17 gen 5. Could you please make a video with a Glock 17 gen 4 making 4" groups? Mr Gunslinger made a video on the Glock 17 gen 5 and he even made 1.5"groups. #2 in the video Mrgunslinger made he actually showed that the trigger and IT IS DIFFERENT internally and Mrgunslinger states it feels different. I can easily understand that in your opinion the glock trigger from a gen 4 and a gen 5 might be very similar, but it is not the first time I hear from people saying the gen 5 trigger is better. Thanks for your time.
Out of all the videos that you've ever done , This is the video where I finally sit back and say okay I like T Rex. Because I feel this is the first time that you are absolutely delivered an honest honest opinion in a video and it wasn't all Showboat I'm just shoot from the hip and I'm giving you the Honest information to the best of my ability. In this day and age where political correctness which PC in my in my personal opinion stands for poor conduct ,It's refreshing to see good honest information delivered.
+Arizona Patriot political correctness kills. Literally. You'll never hear PC on this channel. Nope. Showmanship? Yeah. Because we like being fancy with cameras. Hahaha
I have a Gen 5 G19 and I absolutely love the way it shoots. The only minor issue that I'm working on overcoming is the cutout on the front of the magwell. I was told they put that in so it'd be easier to pull the mag out if you had to, but occasionally, I get hung up on it when I go to insert a magazine...
THANK YOU for the wrap up at the end of the video. Oddly enough... I used to work in the golf industry and I can't tell you how many times conversations about golf performance drilled down to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE and not the tool. If you know what you are doing, you know what you are doing, no matter the tool!
John Wick's pencil this was hilarious but true. Maybe throw in a few live sparring sessions in their too since not all bad things end up as a gun fight. Thank you that is all.
John Wick's pencil lol. He mentioned his body type. Is celery stick a body type? All kidding aside he mentioned magwell flare in context to concealment. I would mention it in the context of being able to strip the magazine. I hate the notch in front of magwell, I would rather dump the magwell flare and have cutouts on the side like the p320
Why have they not cast Lucas to play John Wick?! The level of performance in presentation, acquisition, and engagement is so high, so refined it's art in practice.
My first pistol was a Glock 19 Gen 5. It’s my EDC and its everything the reviews I read/watched said it would be. I train daily with it. At the range and at home. Phenomenal firearm. When I read that the SS carry it to protect the president, that’s what sold me.

David B I don’t even understand what this course is. Where are these places at? All the ranges around here are the size of a telephone booth.
Love your stuff. You do a great job reviewing and make common sense points. Keep it up
Great vid. Good info. Awesome editing!
Even the sights on it? I do not like the stock sights on Glocks.
Awesome video my Brother👍🏽👍🏽 Great shooting and good information, keep up the good work Lucas🙏🏾.
I love your closing statement Lucas! You nailed it!!
Excellent video. I knew the Gen 5 vid was going to be awesome. This video exemplifies the perfection that T. Rex Arms is. Nice job. Let's not forget how beautiful the Gen 5 Glock looks.
+George Raab 👍🏼
I love the Gen 5 now they would work on the grip so arthritic wrest joints don't hurt after 50 rounds.
0:30 the most reliable truck and gun together in one frame can’t argue facts
I’m a die hard Chevy guy but I can’t argue with that you can’t kill those
Lucas, it is always an intellectual satisfaction to listen and watch your intelligent analyses. Thank you!
Well said Sir. I personally love Glock and own several. I also on a few other pistols. You are right when you say “ all that doesn’t matter if you cannot hit your target “. Love your videos
"Leave the forums, leave social media, and spend that time training"
I'm doing that in so many more areas right now and I've seen massive improvements in both my skills and overall mental health. And now that we know that foreign entities are using those platforms to destabilize both our elections and our society - it's more important than ever.
“Marksman” who wants to be a marksman? I’ve always shot for “Expert”!
Lol
Distinguish is the highest you can go!!!
Lucas, you’re awesome!! Very comprehensive, and you have amazing shooting skills!
perhaps one of the best intro that sum up the exciting content.. thumbs up Lucas and T.REX Arms...!
Thx from Germany my friend
Nothing left to say!
The most common failure is behind the Gun....
This is a really good review. All in all, a Glocks a Glocks a Glock.
Clear, concise, informative, authoritative and B/S free. Loved it and subscribed.
Great video! Appreciate you putting emphasis on the shooters skills vs. the tool they are using.
I agree with training. Funny thing is I have both Gen 4 and now Gen 5. I have a magpul magwell on my gen 4 19. I have no issue concealing it.
All personal preference. Body type and holster plays a key role
I just got Glock 19 gen6 it’s revolutionary and shoots lightning bolts.
6:17 made me triple take. Awesome edit.
I like the box look...
@Tony Linardi, yup me too...matches my 87 Grand National.
Wise words at the end young man, well done. Great videos!
2:50 ok bro we get it😂😂
"That's not how this works! That's not how ANY of this works!!!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lmbo
I can respect the fact he is a Glock fanboy but he was honest about his thoughts on the gen 5 vs prior gen. Very well done man
This it what I needed to hear, a no bull review. Thanks m8 keep it going
Yeah, I'm on gen 3 Glock 19's still.
Dutch K Are you from Cali? Cause i can feel your pain lol we're limited to gen 3's in here.
Dutch K
Great firearm! No need to upgrade!
Marion Rivera No I'm in Mississippi...But I actually am from California.
Gen 3 here also
you should leave france
This is John wick if he was a carrot
Lucas, that was some Grade A production quality right there.
Your camera man and post guy need raises.
excellent information throughout the video, especially at the end, excellent job
Dude... I so appreciate your honesty. Love this channel
hey, thats cheating, your wall hacking
Squat, deadlift, bench. Get after it Lucas, you can spare a few hours a week to knock out some 5x5.
TheJbower76 hahahahahahah celery stick
TheJbower76 yeah it really sucks being blessed with a fast metabolism:)
Not everyone wants to be a meathead
The music synced with the shooting is awesome!
Cue the music rite when he starts with that real talk🤟🏽love it
Why have they not cast Lucas to play John Wick?! The level of performance in presentation, acquisition, and engagement is so high, so refined it's art in practice.
Screw that he matches the Mitch rape category hell he should’ve trained Dylan
I need to train with this man lol
Wow, what an outstanding VLog Lucas... You are phenomenal...
You are rockin’ it Lucas. It’s good to see.
finally someone NOT full of buuulllshiiiitttt
Funny, I thought it was all bullshit.
And I commend him on not wearing a stupid ass flat bill hat!!
Larry Coleman
He’s too full of himself to be full of anything else.
@@mangopog9814 sounds like someone who cant shoot
He has the skill. So i listen.
My first pistol was a Glock 19 Gen 5. It’s my EDC and its everything the reviews I read/watched said it would be. I train daily with it. At the range and at home. Phenomenal firearm.
When I read that the SS carry it to protect the president, that’s what sold me.
Lucas, that is great advice you give. Thanks!
Humble pie, served here daily. Amazing shooting and a fantastic video. Keep up the good work.
