    Good video!.... A couple of tips I can give yo.... I was an Auto Glass installer for 43 years before I retired. I did chip repairs for over 30 years..... When you are doing the chip repairs, make sure to wear Nitrile gloves all the time and never get the resin on you... A long the last, I developed an allergy to the resin and would break out in a rash. Bad stuff.......Also. Try using a single-edged, razor blade to scrape the dried resin from the glass.... Instead of using a "Slicing" motion (as shown in video) to remove resin, hold a single-edged razor blade at a 90% angle to the windshield and rub it back and forth, as if you were plaining down the excess resin....This will this process will make the repaired area even with the rest of the windshield... After you are done, use a little car wax to shine up the area..... There is also a product you can use called"PIt Glaze" but car wax will do just as well.... After the area is polish, you may not even see the damage............ Hope this helps............You did a fine job repairing the WS on this video..... and you offered no misleading info.......Thanks for posting!

    • @jackoshaw
      @jackoshaw Před 7 lety +60

      I would be a good idea when repairing a crack, not to have your car in direct sunlight... First, the polymor used to repair the chip is cured through ultra-violet rays of the sun... Second, The windshield should never be hot from the sun, during the process... A hot windshield is likely to crack much easier......Always do the repair in the shade and make sure the windshield is rather cool.... This may help.......... The best repair kit on the market is made by Aegis..... This is professional equipment and is expensive, but once mastered, it can pay for it's self.......

    Being a auto glass technician myself I say this is pritty cool and very interesting, good for people who don’t have $100 to get there chips fixed just have to make sure your very careful not to let it crack of in the process. One additional tip for this diy repair would be to lightly heat the inside of the screen with a lighter right where the chip is. This will help make that resn get thinner and will make it easy for it to get right out to the end of the legs of the chip and lightly tap around the chip with a small piece of steel :) cool stuff

      What the heat does is expand the area that's damaged while you are injecting resin into the area and let's that resin get into the voids while you have pressure on it.

    • @latafairam
      @latafairam Před rokem +1

      You need to so this in direct sunlight. Glass get really hot believe it or not.

    • @russellhowell9854
      @russellhowell9854 Před rokem

      What the heat does when you hit the bullseye or starburst with a torch lighter is it expands to open the lines in the damage where the resin pushes further into the Crack. You just very quickly hit it with torch and then get off of it.

    I’ll have to give this a try ,
    Had a crack or chip in my trucks windshield for about a year now, not getting bigger or growing but it’s on drivers side & in your sight line, so it’s annoying.

    That was a great video, very nice job for a home diy repair. Now to take your advice and repair the chip on my own windshield I've been wondering how well these windshield repair kits work and now after seeing how yours looked after fixing it I can't resist I have to try it myself.

    This was the first video where you didn't sound super excited...lol. You sounded like a calm version of me a few hours ago when a stone flew from a dump trunk and chipped my Jeep windshield...worst part is I had just recently replaced the windshield.Thank you man. Looks like this will work and help my ocd

      Dang that’s a bummer. Yea I wasn’t as enthusiastic when filming years ago. My newest windshield chip repair video is a good one. Be sure to watch that.

    • @berglund26
      @berglund26 Před 5 lety +1

      ChrisFix Ya, I watched all your videos on the subject, and paused and followed you step by step. The chip is now next to invisible, so for someone with OCD over their car, it’s huge that I can now drive without being distracted by it or having to drop another $300 on a second new one in less than a year. I really appreciate your channel, man. Such precise and thorough videos - every time! I just discovered you a couple months ago, and already you’ve gotten me out of my comfort zone and walked me through installing my own brakes, wiring my own interior lights with switch, upgrading my stereo system, (including how to properly solder), thoroughly cleaning and detailing my engine bay, and doing my own small rust/body repairs and trim paint. That’s thousands of dollars you’ve saved me, and invaluable knowledge you’ve shared. What I’ve learned is priceless. And there is a whole catalogue of material here for me to go to anytime the Jeep requires my attention. You’ve earned my sub, and my respect. Thank you, Chris! My baby Liberty looks and runs AMAZING now - thanks to you!

    Can't wait to try this. Put a new windshield on my CR-V, after a chip like this turned into a big crack. Less than 4 months later, I'm passing a large truck and a rock hits my new windshield, small but annoying chip right in the driver's line of sight! I'm going to give this kit a whirl and hopefully it does the trick!
