    This kit is not designed to replace the glass lost in the chip and be a level repair, it's only supposed to bond and seal the cracks so they do not spread and ruin the rest of the windshield. You can still see the chip if you look close, but it's visibility through the windshield was greatly reduced after the repair. That's all I was looking for and this kit delivered for cheap.

    Most insurance companies will cover the cost of professional rock chip repairs, even if they don't cover windshield replacement, but it's nice to know that a version can be done yourself too. I've had great luck with having chips filled over the years.

    I like to use carb or brake cleaner to clean it. The pressure from the spray can gets in there really good, expels water, and evaporates fast

    For those saying it didn't work, you have to keep in mind that this type of rock chip repair doesn't make the chip invisible, it's only meant to keep the damage from turning into a crack. And as others have pointed out, it's often covered for free by your insurance. Either way, it's cheaper than replacing your windshield. Second, I would definitely urge caution if you try to heat your windshield with a heat gun, because you can easily crack it...especially if you're applying heat to a damaged area of the glass. I would recommend sticking with a blow dryer if you need to dry anything out.

  • @Elsa-xo7xn
    @Elsa-xo7xn Před 6 lety +2

    U should heat the inside of the window and the outside with a heat gun but not for to long and also dig the stone chip out with a razor blade I do atleast 10 of these a day.

    As an auto glass tech, I don't even do repairs at my shop, it's a waste of time. No one ever likes how it looks, so I only do replacements. These kits do work, but I wouldn't expect it to clear up too much.

  • @Cutlerylover4life1
    @Cutlerylover4life1 Před 6 lety +1

    At first I thought my repair kit didn't work, but it was just excess resin. You can trim it flush with a razor. That might be what we're seeing in this video.

    Most insurance companies will repair a chip for free. I've had three done. The fourth had a crack run on the repair guy, so I did have to pay the deductible for the replacement windshield.

    The one thing your video didn't do, was show us a good shot of the windshield "after" it had time to set and dry, so that we could see what the final result looked like. It's not just about "repair". It's about the ability to see through the windshield without a spot there.

    • @namehere8099
      @namehere8099 Před 2 měsíci +1

      The spot does not magically disappear. The resin ONLY helps the chip in the window from doing the "spiderman"... meaning it stops cracks protruding from that particular chip.

    Be careful. That's not the proper technique. When you let go of the plunger like that you can further damage the glass.

    • @deasttn

      The instructions say to pull up and release abruptly.

    • @randomcarvids1052
      @randomcarvids1052 Před 4 lety

      @@deasttn I know. But I've seen the rock chip run and become a large crack while doing that. When you let it down fast, you are slamming pressure onto, technically a broken windshield.

    Whenever I get a chip in ma window I just pick a few good size nuggets out of ma nose and pack em in the hole. Just replace em every week or so and you're set. Don't gotta spend anything! Unless you had been plannin on eating a few for a snack but you'll always have more. Oh and make sure they're good ones with a few hairs in em. For structural support.
