People like you have to be rewarded. I do thank you so much for this, particularly the tips about taking the tube out.
I just changed mine, what I did was to hold the flow indicator with one hand and the tube with the other (from where it was firm with the male part inside), and wiggled until the tube came out.

I have had this problem twice with my machine. It's going on 8 years ish. Another tip I can give if it hasn't been said yet is to warm up the tubes that connect to the indicator with a hair dryer. The heat helps make the rubber more pliable and comes off easier. Great video thanks.

We heated the little yellow hose with a hair dryer to make it expand and it easily puled off. Great informative video. Thank you sir!

That's good that it worked, but you don't want to actually do that again because expanding a rubber back and forth will wear it out and it won't go back into its original form

Thank you so much!! I was mid cleaning and then all of a sudden it started leaking, I freaked out, because as we all know this machine isn’t cheap. So glad to hear it’s an easy/cheap fix(hopefully). I’m going to take mine apart really quick to double check that’s what it is before I order any parts. Also thanks for the “No hot water, only warm” tip, because I was unaware of the issues that can cause, because I’ve always used as hot of water as I could get, hence why this probably happened and the tip for removing the hose😃Anyway, thanks again!!😊

Haven’t left a comment before on CZcams but wanted to make sure to thank you for this video. I watched it once, ordered the part on Amazon (ordered it Saturday and got it Monday!), took apart the Bissell Big Green, and replaced the flow indicator assembly part with zero issues. I didn’t have to watch the video again either. Many thanks for your help. Keep doing the videos - you’re awesome!

THANK YOU this worked PERFECTLY! My 10 yr-old Bissell suddenly started gushing water out of the flow indicator. Looked up your video and followed your directions. People I am not handy and used only needle-nose pliers, a Phillips screwdriver, and masking tape (didn't have electrical). My flow indicator didn't look broken at all when I removed it, but I tried the new $10 part from Amazon anyway, and NO MORE LEAK! When I called the repair shop they said "it's tough getting parts for these older machines (??) and we might have to keep it for several weeks". Your fix took 2 days for Prime shipping and about 30 minutes of work (15 for removal, 15 for putting it back on). HOORAY!!!

Thank you so much for the detailed video. I was able to do everything but pull off the case (needed more muscle). The special points about the hoses was so important and after a lot of careful tugging, pulling and twisting they popped off. After I got everything put back together (didn''t leave a single screw behind), I tested it....and it worked!!!!!!! At 73 and arthritic hands, I was still able to repair it. Thanks again!!

I'm replacing mine now too...Did not know what the problem was until watching your video..I would forget about the leak until I would go to clean a carpet for a client and the solution would leak out...finally ordered the part and I'm replacing...This is my 3rd Big Green...I've just sold them in the past when I did not need them anymore but things would happen that I would need one again!! Luckily I always bought used!! They have a good used resale value for a home appliance! haha...I pay about $300.00 and always would sell for $350.00 so never lost money!! Never would I pay new price of $500.00 though!!! Thanks for the clear instructions!!

Thanks so much! My machine just started leaking and I found your video right away. I ordered the part from Amazon, and it will be here in a few days. I checked the Bissell user guide, and it clearly states to use HOT tap water. Most hot water tanks are set at 120 degrees, which isn't that hot. I'll be using WARM water from now on due to your tip.

    • @FredFlintstone21
      @FredFlintstone21  Před rokem

And you'll find that warm water works great! How warm? I'd say if your hands can handle the heat, it's not too hot.

@@FredFlintstone21 Just replaced mine and your video was really helpful. A couple of small plastic tabs at the bottom of the housing broke off when I pulled it off, but everything went back together just fine. I think those tabs were just there to help align the housing. I inspected the old unit and found that the plastic window over the flow indicator had cracked around the base. For those who might have some trouble sliding the tubing back onto the replacement unit, I'd suggest spreading a very thin film of dish soap over the posts. The tubing will slip right on, and the soap won't harm the plastic or rubber. Don't use petroleum jelly or similar substance as those may deteriorate the parts over time.

When soap water started leaking everywhere, I didnt know what was going on, what was broke, ended up tearing apart the whole unit, rollers underneath, this gadget, that thingy. Finally I narrowed it down to the flow indicator. So I made a video about my quest in fixing it, ran into more frustrating leaks, dropped the hose clamp down the hole, and had to take it all apart again to lengthen one of the hoses because I ripped the damn thing trying to pry it off. So it leaked AGAIN from the hose. What a terrible video it was. After I replaced the flow indicator, it was time to delete the old video (which was terrible anyways) and share what I had learned, so your walk would be far less painless. Of all my videos, for whatever reason, this one is my favorite! Thanks for watching! You can do it! Just like the famous line from the movie "the edge", "what one man (woman) can do, another can do!" I hope all will go well. Thanks for watching!

The very top of my indicator comes off, as well as the black and white part that spins under it...so it's broken, right? Water leaking everywhere. I thought it was the other half/opening next to the indicator (where it says to insert a hose). There is no cap on mine (the hose opening), not sure if there ever was, but there is no pressure or suction there so that's not the issue (placing a beer cap on it did not help either!).

Excellent video. Seems I'm not the only one with this problem. Very detailed and you showed everything, but you didn't actually show the flow indicator replacement at the end.

Thanks for the video. I have one question. On my machine, of the hoses that connects to the flow indicator has a metal coil over it. I forgot to notice if it was attached to the clamp somehow before I removed it from the cracked flow indicator. Can you tell me if I need to attached it to the clamp and how to do it? Thanks.

Where did you get the replacement hose from, it created a pin hole leak when replacing the flow indicator. Thank you for your instructional video by the way.

I cut a piece off the end. On mine, I took it apart exposing more hose, then adjusted it up higher so I could cut some off.

Same thing with my machine. The problem is that Bissell used a bad adhesive that *HOT* water breaks down. I rebuilt mine by scraping off all the rubbery old adhesive first and re-gluing the *THREE* clear flow meter pieces back together with epoxy. It's been several months and several uses later and it's as good as new.

When you say "Gripper Thingies" are you referring to the teeth on your pliers?
