I love the movie Thief it is in my top five Neo noirs. It's funny I watched it on Amazon Prime just last week. It is such an amazing movie. And the soundtrack is awesome. I hope because of you more people discover this high quality film. Thank you for your hard work
Don't forget to pin this comment brother
@@P._Version, ???
@@khambrelgreen - I agree totally! "THIEF" is one of my all-time favorites. It is James Caan's best work, imo, and it's Jim Belushi's and Robert Prosky's 1st movie. Also in the cast are Willy Nelson and Dennis Farina. Again, a fantastic movie directorial debut from Michael Mann!!! Another great Michael Mann movie not to miss is the 1st "Hanibal Lecktor" movie, "MANHUNTER", from 1986.
It's based on the novel "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris. This movie stars William L. Peterson, Brian Cox, Harvey Keitel, Joan Allen and Stephen Lang.
@@khambrelgreen I meant Darren, pardon Khambrel, should have specified. He usually pins his comment to the top of the list.
1st season of Miami Vice-1984 Thief-1981. Important because Thief is usually considered Mann's masterpiece.
Jim Cummings is a BEAST! Great call he is so fascinating. Writing Producing and Directing...Also a huge fan!
I love when you do these Prime lists! Amazon Prime is so hard to find new and good movies.
True, especially movies not rated R or no violence, sex, spiritism. I had to go back to Asian movies and even that's slim lol
A criminally overlooked movie on Prime video is called Mortal, I remember seeing the trailer several years back, and then nothing, only to find it released on Prime in 2020. It’s from Norway, but is in a English and while it’s not a big budget movie, the effects are pretty good, and are used sparingly.
Basically it’s a unique and very interesting take on a person gets power. It’s not a superhero or Supervillain flick, but if you like those, you’ll likely love Mortal, but even if you don’t like superhero flicks, you might still love Mortal, as it’s more a character study.
A couple of days ago, I read the brief description of Love and Monsters on Prime and decided to pass. After listening to DVD's movie recommendations for Prime (May 2022), I gave the film a chance. All I can say is this man knows what he's talking about.
Right on
Jim Cummings is hilarious, love all his movies.
Blown away is one of my all time favorite movies!
Wrath of Man was great!!! Plenty of surprises and Jason Statham was excellent in it.
The best part of "Nick of Time" is that there's a running timer in the corner of the screen showing how long Depp's character has to do what he's been threatened to do (no spoilers). It adds so much tension for the viewer.
I recently watched Wrath of Man and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. One of Jason Statham's best efforts. It deserves to be in the top 3 on your list. Also, Freaks is an excellent movie. I watched it about a year ago and Lexy Kolker does an amazing job as the young girl.
I liked Wrath of Man also. Very good.
The Gift is some amazing story telling. Slow burner, mysterious, but captivating with amazing performances. Soundtrack is folky and eerie at the same time. Love it.
Something I would like to add about Worlds Fastest Indian. It is an amazing true story about Burt Munro's. What he accomplished in the mid-late 60's is still amazing to this day. He still has a land speed record that, after 55 years, has not been broken.
Brilliant film 👍
Loved Wrath of Man!! I really enjoyed how it played out. Much more than just a straight action movie, although as entertaining.
Thief has a sound track by Tangerine Dream!
One reason why Nick of Time was a decent movie was due to plot unfold in real time (i.e. protagonist only has 90 minutes to save his daughter), and we get to see how he spent each valuable minute.
Agreed. 👌
He also should've highlighted some of the director's more notable works like "War Games", "Short Circuit", or "Point of No Return"...
Wolf of Snow Hollow was excellent....this Cummings guy can play these...odd different characters....loved it... check out Thunder Road, another superb Cummings movie!
Good to see you are indexing and putting in bookmarks. Please continue with this as it helps.
Darren: “Watch it with the right state of mind.”
Me: Ugh, too much work!
Ok, now off to see ‘The Gift’ 👋🏼
I would love a list where you look at some older movies on TUBI. They have a ton of great westerns and giallo films. I'm talking about movies like The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and the 1966 Django. I realize these movies might not seem exciting because they're old, but they're classics and I think viewers might appreciate some help figuring out which classics are worth their time.
Alot of these movies are on Tubi too
I think 2 Days in the Valley is an excellent film. I believe it’s Charleze Theron’s first credited role.
Freaks and Love and Monsters are AWESOME! My 16yo and I watched and loved both of those movies.
Blown Away is awesome, that finale, they bought that ship at an old shipyard and blew it up,not as much CGI as you think, alot of explosives used, and closed off set for the explosion scene where it took a full weak to set up
Another great list! Some great movies have been recently added to Prime. I'd highly recommend Regarding Henry, The Accused, Ordinary People, 3 Days of the Condor, and Hector and the Search for Happiness.
Hector and the Search for Happiness was a very enjoyable movie, but nobody seems 2 have seen it. Glad 2 c other people liked it!
I saw Nick of Time in the 90s. I still don't understand why it's not more popular.
I've been trying to find The Gift for years. I loved it when I first saw it. Great performances. Great slow burn. Every actor in this film gives it their best.
Man, there is no tougher task than trying to find 19 good flicks on prime right now. As always, well done man. Thanks for the suggestions.
Just finished the Wolf of Snow Hollow. Freaking fantastic. Jim Cummings is so funny. I don't know how everyone kept a straight face. If you haven't seen it yet and are a flick connection fan, this is highly recommended.
Love Pain & Gain. Super enjoyable watch..
Wrath of Man was sick too.
Great list. "The wolf of snow hollow" is absolutely hilarious! First time I watched it I watched it again back to back.
Great video Darren! I also loved The wolf of snow hollow, the ending completely surprised me I don't know about you lol.
I watched Freaks based on one of your earlier recommendations and it did not disappoint. Superb movie.
Love and monsters was so much fun. More people should see it for sure!!
great list, as always
If you are a fan of Westerns or early 70s films, 'Doc' (1971) with Stacy Keach, Faye Dunaway and Harris Yulin is well worth a look. It leaves in a couple of weeks.
Thank you Sir! Your dedication and perseverance to hook us up is greatly appreciated. 👍
Michael Mann directed the 2006 Miami Vice movie, the TV show started in 1984, Thief was in 1981.
Wrath of Men is an AMAZING MOVIE.
Pain & Gain is one of the funniest movies ever!
Thank you for recommending Tubi !!!
Another selection of films that just knocks it out of the park.
*Tremendously* good recommendations here - and beautifully explained why they're great movies.
Your are crushing it with these lists! I watch all your videos, keep it up!
Thanks for the list man. I think a DVD required viewing list(s) would be a good video.
Will definitely check out some of these movies. Another underratted film that I LOVE is Bottle Shock. Still surprises me when people I talk to have never heard of this movie. :)
Thanks for, The World's Fastest Indian! I search for this type of movie, can not believe I never heard of it! Thanks; Again.
‘Nick of Time’ is a total hidden gem. SO COOD!
"There's slim pickin's on Prime right now," and then hit us with this list. There are some seriously excellent films here, so thanks for letting us know they're there for us to enjoy.
I’d also suggest the movie Mortal on Prime Video. It’s a Norwegian movie, but is in English, and had a limited budget but don’t let that stop you, it’s a very unique and interesting take on a “person gets some superpowers,” but its not a superhero movie. It’s also nota special effects powerhouse, and instead it more about the characters, and they use the effects sparingly, but they are done better that I’d have expected for it’s low budget.
More than a few in this list that I never watched when they came out, but I definitely intend to rectify that now.
Thanks, Daren. You NEVER fail to come through with the good stuff.
peace
(Had Raycon's. They were great but I lost one and can't afford another pair.)
Love and Monsters was great!! One of my favorites I watched during the pandemic. Would have been great in the movie theater.
I like Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure.
Wow! Over halfway through The Wolf of Snow Hollow and I am loving it so much, especially the over the top, amazing, and wonderful performance by the lead actor Jim Cummings! Holy christ, I've never seen such a funny and entertaining horror flick!! Thanks for an absolutely spot on recommendation of a hidden gem that I would have never known about without you.
The Gift is really good. I appreciate your videos because I am basically bed bound and they help me find something to watch. I can usually count on 30-40% being picks that are good and that I haven’t seen. Thank you.
Excellent list Darren. I will definitely watch the Hopkins movie.
Love your enthusiasm!
My son is in the Coast Guard. They have so many more Guardsmen that are incredible. Doing incredible work
Phenomenal list!!! These are all BANGERS!
Starting Wolf of Snowhollow now, so far so good.
Lots of fantastic picks on this list I've never heard of. That Johnny Depp movie, the movie where there's a fight scene with Teri Hatcher and Charlize Theron?!!!?! HOT!!! Sounds fantastic. Lots of great action flicks on here like blown away etc.
Keep up the fantastic work. We all certainly appreciate it and will keep watching as long as you can keep coming up with quality picks like these. This is one of my favorite CZcams channels, love the picks. This channel pairs very well with apps like just watch or Reelgood to help keep track of all of these and keep watchlists. Thanks for another great list.
LOVE your reviews... I don't always agree with your assessment, but your reviews are a big help in that they show me what stuff to AVOID, which I find to be a big help. I don't have much taste for violence, is the thing...
Wow, thanks for all the 90s film recommendations…I’ll be sure to check out the Lost City of Z since I didn’t get to watch it in theaters when it came out.
It's worth the watch....the cajones on these adventurers was amazing and the FAMILY they left at home.....
Brother, as always a Great job! And where did you get the thumb ring? Cheers 🍻
Hey thanks for digging so deep on the search for all of us. Great recommendations. We
Have lots of new stuff to see now. 🐲🐲
You were right about "Wolf of Snow Hollow". Really worth watching. I'd say promote it as long as it is up.
Just watched The Wolf of Snow Hollow, based off the recommendation on this video. T'was awesome, thanks for making these videos!
Sometimes I wish I were you.
Making videos about movies you really dig.
Well done, sir.
47yo and I just watched Demolition Man for the first time. Worth the watch
Worlds Fastest Indian was great...and city of lost childern...great recommendation.
Great list of underrated movies for Amazon Prime, Darren. Recently watched Patient Seven on Prime. 2016 film starring Michael Ironside. Available on IMDb free to watch with ads, this horror movie is well worth seeing. Also Freaks is highly recommended. Many thanks for sharing your FLICK CONNECTION presentation. Take care and catch you on your next presentation 🌟🌟🌟
Michael Bay seemed to be doing a self-parody in Pain and Gain which upped the enjoyability.
Lucky enough to catch World's Fastest Indian during its initial release.
Wow. Great list!! I forgot all about The Guardian and The Gift!!!!
Have loved Nick Of Time since it was released. It's nice to see Johnny play a normal person in a movie every now and then. Plus, you can never go wrong with Walken. The "looney tunes" line from this movie has stuck with me for years.
That werewolf movie you were talking about sounds a lot like the movie Werewolves Within that came out about a year or so ago. Sheriff in a small town investigating murders. Suspected werewolf. comedy. Etc.
Wrath of Man was good. I'm not a big GR fan outside the Sherlock Holmes movies but I actually liked that one.
San Francisco fan girl loves your LISTS!
Very helpful , the assessments seemed balanced and fair
Love and Monsters was amazing. Watched it right on release and was very positively suprised by it! Pain and Gain i just love :D seen that Movie multiple times and having a blast every time.
Bro, I am a picky movie goer, but always find killer recommendations on this channel. Thanks!
Right on
The top 7 are hitting the spot for me. Thanks yo!
Mr. VanDammmmm!!!!
You're F.K.N. OUTSTANDING!!!!
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO!!!
I'll buy those earbuds for only to support your channel.
You put in great work.
Mr. VanDammmmm
You are Appreciated !!
I’ve been recommending Mirror Mask (2006) a Jim Henson film. This spiritual successor to The Neverending Story (1979) and Labyrinth (1986), I believe this was the final film Jim Henson was personally involved with before his death. While some cgi doesn’t hold up perfectly, and at first the story feels a little “been there, done that” it soon becomes a mystery that’s intriguing to watch unfold. Along with some great visuals and an art style alone that is worth the time.
Loved "the World's Fastest Indian." Saw it when it came out. Probably rented it a Blockbuster. LOL Don't remember why. Not a motorcycle fan or even Anthony Hopkins so much. Great movie.
Great list, keep up the good work, I also thought pusher was an entertaining watch on prime
I will have to check out Love and Monsters and Wrath of Man. Didn't know they were on Prime. Worlds fastest Indian is an amazing movie.
Freaks was awesome, watched it after you recommended before. Love your videos
I love your videos and rarely take exception to anything you say but your discussion of Blown Away failed to mention the way Suzy Amis Cameron ran up those couple of steps when she was upset with Bridges, after saying "I don't even know who you are." It changed my life. But, otherwise, great list!
My two favourites from this list (Hands down) are Cosmopolis and Freaks. Cosmopolis.. ... I would say might (very well) be an Aquired Taste. ..it's, - Odd. But Fantastic imho. And ANYone (Marvelboy, Dcgirl, or Other) who Loves a Good Superhero Flick "Needs" to Checkout Freaks.
Great suggestions! Have you seen The Outfit streaming on Peacock? It's very good
This commentary has gotten better and better The World's Fastest Indian was great.
Pain and gain is still my top 20 movies
DVD bro! I think pain and gain is awesome!! probably my fave bay film! sooo OTT and funny AF! and wrath of man is some good fun too! neither one will exercise your mind! not like cosmopolis, its cronenberg turned up to 11 on the weird amp!
Gonna watch Albino Alligator, Transit and 2 Days in the Valley thanks for the list
The Lost City of Z is a really good movie. I agree with you about Prime original movies.
I like this list of movies. Accident Man looks good to me. It looks like you worked hard on this video. Congratulations. Goodnight 🌙😴💤.
Love Cosmopolis. Up there with Existenze, top tier Cronenberg.
There's like 6 on here I gota watch. Thanks!
Loving the channel mate
Thank you!
Hey I was hoping you could do more foreign films that are on Netflix and prime and HBO if they have any. That are amazing and that you like and suggest as a must watch. Just an idea maybe you could add another video set for just foreign films that you suggest once a month. Thanks. Cheers
Thank you!!
Blown Away was fantastic. I lived in Boston and actually seen some of these scenes being filmed.
I loved "The Guardian". Watched it several times in the past decade and a half.
I’d also like to see a part 2 of Freaks. Great movie. Highly recommended
Worlds Fastest Indian. A true story. A great story . Great movie. Hopkins knocked it out the park.
How about some series recommendations, on the top of my list would be, The Dropout followed by Pam and Tommy
appreciated, thank you
That feeling you mention, being such a feature that you can only get in the 1990s and by 2000 will no longer happen- I consider it the Tarantino Effect. That type of movie wasn’t bankable after 2000. Or even doable.
Edit: I don’t remember specifically, but I think you probably enjoyed Love And A .45, to a small extent. It’s that type of movie that could only survive pre-2000.
PS/ I loved Freaks, when you recommended it a year ago
