The Prestige is NEXT LEVEL 😳
Night drive is pretty good
I Saw the Devil incredible
Have you seen Altered States? 1980
I would like to hear your review to altered states. No one ever talks about it
If you watch 127 hours in reverse it’s much better. It’s an uplifting story of a rock climber who finds his arm
😂
Best comment 😩🤣🤣🤣
As a point of clarification, Yucatec Maya, the dialect of the Maya language spoken in "Apocalypto" is not a dead language. It's still spoken by hundreds of thousands of people, mostly on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
True, had some friends from Chiapa's who speak Ch'ol. It was very cool to hear.
You know whose Underrated?? My boy Darren Van Damme 👈
I Saw the Devil is FANTASTIC!!! Hopefully someone in Hollywood doesn’t try to remake it. They’d ruin it. It is a CLASSIC!!!
Yeah Hollywood has a tendency to take forgien movies and Americanize them like they can't come up with there own original ideas or think Americans haven't seen the movie before because we only watch American movies
Truth 💯, 👍👍👍👍👍👍
They ruined Old boy!
Even not as good as original, I welcome remake, as I could follow the dialogue. Old Boy(Korean), Infernal Affairs(Hong Kong), etc.
I saw the devil has some of the best effects I've ever seen. Several scenes will have you rewinding, watching again, and asking yourself "how the hell did they do that?". Awesome movie.
I’ve been telling people about I saw the devil since I was a sophomore in highschool, that Achilles scene 👌
Yup
It's pretty gross 😬
Just watched it last night and loved it!
Do not watch this movie if you have weak heart. Most evil villain I have seen ever. Will disturb You for sure.
I Saw The Devil is one of the most intense yet incredible movies ever, and is the ULTIMATE hidden gem for fans of the genre... I've been trying to recommend it to everyone I can who claims to be a movie buff for years! Was so glad to see it on Amazon last year and there's really no way it could be anywhere else on the list, it's that good! One of the few movies I've watched more than twice, and there's only a few movies I've watched more than once. Anyone else only watch shows and movies once?
I got lucky I was able to pick this up from a local video store as it was closing. The owners were from South Korea and recommended this to me based on my tastes in films. WOW this is a must see for any Horror/Crime Drama/Thriller fan!! Subtitles be damned, watch and read you WILL NOT be disappointed.
Thanks for the Rec Eli. That's what I love about DVD's channel. We all seem to have similar taste and I enjoy checking the recs out.
Look for an awesome Korean monster movie called "The Host". I've seen it twice so far & it's great!
It's kinda out there though. The hero brutally tortures and incapacitates the villian. Yet in the end he manages to escape everyone and go kill all those people. I call bs. He is a severely injured old fuck, a retired cop and his daughter should be able to kick the shit out of him
Truth 💯, 👍👍👍👍👍
THANK YOU for giving some love to Predator 2! I really enjoyed it, the actors and setting made it a lot of fun. Being not as good as an all-time classic like the original doesn't mean it's not highly enjoyable on its own merits!
I resisted "Apocalypto" forever because, you know...Gibson...but now I recommend it to friends. I have to add, "Yeah. Really!" It will grab you and take you somewhere you've never been and hold you. I was very invested in the characters and fascinated by their life. I have no idea how accurate it is, but I bought the whole package.
I tell everyone that and they’re still always hesitant to watch it, but so happy I made them😂
Darren, I subscribe to Netflix, HBOMAX, Hulu and Prime. I've always thought that Prime had no real personality and was eclectic, at best, which made it difficult to find the most interesting movies. After discovering you on CZcams several months ago, you are my go-to site for Prime recommendations. Keep up the great work.
Prime would be fine if it had a user interface that made sense. It doesn't. It's impossible to find new or fun stuff. I hate their UI with the power of a thousand suns.
Great first pick, I Saw the Devil is a fantastic movie!
Just an extra note about _I Saw the Devil._ This movie stars one of South Korea's most beloved and amazing actors, Lee Byung Hun. If you like him in this, you should see some of his other work. Movie-wise, check out _Ashfall, The Fortress, The Age of Shadows,_ and _Masquerade._ He even takes on the small screen from time-to-time and Kdramaland appreciates it. Try _Mr Sunshine,_ or _Iris._ He's an unbelievably good actor.
I have watched a lot of Korean series and a few movies, what keeps me coming back is there are a lot of really great actors and the production quality is superb, on top of that Korean comedies really hit the spot for me.
What about OLD BOY ?
@@margosdesarian _Old Boy_ is a must-watch masterpiece of a Korean movie, but Lee Byung Hun is not in it. That stars Choi Min Shik, who is also just an awesome actor. Choi Min Shik is actually going to grace us with a drama this year, his first one since 1997, _Casino,_ but it's only 8 episodes, so my guess is it's just a Netflix thing. They must be paying him a pretty penny.
"The Prestige " is an absolutely fantastic movie. It is one of me all time favorites.
Thanks! Always excited when I get a Flick Connection notification!
Cool list as always. Got some bangers on here and a few I've never heard of. I almost 100% agree with your take on movies so I love getting new recommendations from you. Thanks for your videos!
Whenever someone asks me to recommend a movie I recommend your channel instead 😉
I Saw the Devil is a masterpiece that I found accidentally a few years ago and deserves to be at the top of this list. The actor that played the agent said so much just through his facial expressions in some of the best scenes in the movie.
I don't think The Prestige has been forgotten at all. In all honesty, if it wasn't for The Prestige; the Illusionist would be forgotten. The Prestige is so much better and the only reason the Illusionist is remembered was because of how it came out at during the same time. Very similar to A Bugs Life and Antz.
I Saw The Devil IS a must watch.
Lot of times you have two similar movies come out around the same time. Dante’s Peak and Volcano. Armageddon and Deep Impact. Mars Attacks and Independence Day even if Mars Attacks was much more a comedy.
One of my favorite zombie movies of all time is, Train To Busan.
YES!
It’s a series, but WAY more people need to know about Philip K Dick’s Electric Dreams, too. It’s star studded, the politics is ramped allll the way up (instead of muted as often the case w/PKD adaptations) & the horror is a deep social horror.
yes I agree that was a good watch too !!!
I'm a Dick fan but thought Electric Dreams was dull
@@atomiccritter6492 A few episodes are slower/less complicated. Do you like any film adaptations of his work?
@@sarabrucker7847 yes I've enjoyed most Dick movie adaptations. Imo they simply have not chosen decent Dick stories to adapt for TV. Never seen The Man In The High Castle series but think the book is great
@@atomiccritter6492 I only watched the first season but it was quite good. So good, I’ve had trouble watching more of it. You can even mouseover on a pc to get production notes e.g. how they designed an all German Concorde, if you like that kind of detail
Apocalypto is visually stunning. Awesome story that felt like an accurate depiction of the times.
Yea, I rewatch it every now and then
The western film Death Alley is currently free on prime. It was shot for just over 1 million with mostly unknown actors. It was released last year and was shot just before the pandemic began. I’d recommend it for any western fans or history buffs.
Solid list. You have some of my top movies on there (13 hours, Deja Vu, Enemy at the Gates.) I've had "I saw thee devil" recommended before but haven't watched yet. I'm also from the south & found Arkansas very well made. Keep up the good work.
I enjoy all your videos and even though i have seen 90% of these movies, for some reason this whole compilation looks amazing. Great video, im going watch them all new and the again ones. Thanks!
25:35 I Saw the Devil was gruesome. Watched it with my gf and both of us had to look away and double take some scenes, but goddam was it a great movie. Random bits of humor too that might take some viewers out of the suspense but I found good to add some breathing room between more hard-to-watch scenes.
You are killing the views man. People need to “ smash” that like button. Thanks for this. I always find at least one movie I haven’t seen and is great!
Love your Videos. Always look forward to your recommendations
I feel like I have seen the movie 'Deja Vu' before...
super cute
So happy to see I Saw The Devil get some shine. It was the first Korean thriller I’d seen about a decade ago. It turned me on to Korean cinema and I’ve told so many people to watch it.
Stumbled on the video and thoroughly enjoyed! Thank you for your list and commentary.
A thanks as well to everyone in the comments expanding on the list with additional trivia and movies. The watchlist is now well padded.
The thoughtful opinions and questions reminded me of so many great films to watch. Some watched at random during Netflix's dvd-only rental days.
Black As Night. Horror. Amazon. Had no expectations but this was a surprising gem. Relatively unknown actors with the exception of one you'll instantly recognize. Decent movie.
Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds, Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days. Incredibly beautiful South Korean fantasy action films. WELL worth viewing.
Night Watch and Day Watch. Came out in the early 2000's. Very cool, Russian, fantasy thrillers.
Kontrol, also good. Hungarian thriller with comedy I believe. Has a great soundtrack.
Nettoyage à Sec. French. This is more of a slow burn drama.
Jolt, Mortal and Boxing Day were fun recent watches.
Series-wise, Upload, Good Omens, Truth Seekers, Spirited and Wheel of Time make for good viewing.
Enjoy!
Looks like a great night ahead, thanks D. Never heard of some of these, can;t wait.
Yours is one of my favorite channels. Can’t wait for your new videos!
Awesome list. I just saw "The Last Duel" (which was amazing) and you've given me some good follow up movies to get me through the weekend. Thank you.
Enemy at the gates is based on the supurb novel 'War of the Rats' which itself is well worth reading!
The American/German and British/Russian accent thing was strange.
Arkansas WAS a really fun movie.
I havnt seen I Saw the Devil yet.(!) looking forward to checking that out
Watched Scotland, PA and loved it! Good recommendation!
Aloha, what part of Mississippi are you from? The Delta by chance? I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the effort you put into them.
As always, you never disappoint. Keep it up, I’ll be a forever fan
Thanks Darren, I somehow missed "I Saw the Devil", but I will definitely check it out. S.Korea has to be underrated for some gems like this, as I've found a few others, including "Old Boy", and just recently, "Night in Paradise" on Netflix was pretty good.
Great video. Love Prime Video. Very informative choices. Thank you for your blood, sweat and tears. Good evening. 🌇🎉
It’s Movie Night and DVD came through again on the day of !!! Cheers !
I was in New Orleans when they filmed Deja Vu. They arranged for the city not to clean up after Mardi Gras so they could film for a few days.
The Prestige, Colombiana, and Apocalypto are really good. I thought your comments on Push were spot on. I enjoy the movie. I can't wait to watch I Saw The Devil.
If you haven’t seen Apocalypto you need to immediately
'Enemy At The Gates' wasn't the only WW2 movie which got less attention due to Saving Private Ryan coming out within a few year stretch. The HBO movie 'When Trumpets Fade' is one of the most underrated and unknown of the lot. I expect because it only showed on HBO back then. Highly recommend it if you want a dark & dismal WW2 flick set during a meat grinder of a campaign. Numerous recognizable actors, who did a great job, in it too. Still on HBOMAX.
It's on youtube too!
@@RahulSharma-pf6cp - Nice! Regular watch for me, got the DVD.
Haiku.
Enemy of The Gates, I have watched a few times. The cat and mouse game is very interesting. I do not like 'When Trumpets Fade', kinda boring to me.
Apocalypto and 13 Hours are just *chef’s kiss*. Always find something new from your vids!
I want to say thank you for this video. Found you in a side list set. Watched this and I enjoyed it. I hit Thumbs up and Sub'd.
Thank You for your work Darren - I'll follow you down - was a good watch !!!
I Saw the Devil is very brutal, but not as brutal as Cold Fish. Both are mesmerizing to watch, sticks with you for a long time.
I still quote Gary Busey from Predator 2 whenever someone is talking about a supposed UFO and another person asks me what they’re talking about- “A fucking alien.” I loved that movie, back when it came out I was in high school and watched it in the theater with my brother.
You are the best and my favorite recomender for movies thanks for the recommendations
This one has quite a few on it that I agree - underrated and must watches. Columbiana, Predator 2, Arkansas and I Saw the Devil - Adding First Love to my queue next.
Great as usual!
I would put "Upgrade" somewhere on this list.. an awesome A.I. sci fi movie almost no one has seen. It's currently not included but it goes on and off pretty often.
Upgrade is awesome!
You know what movie I have never seen in any streaming apps is The Vanishing with Jeff Bridges. Have you ever seen it? It’s so good!!!
I have 8 of the top 10 recommendations, all are excellent. Never interested in 127 Hours but Arkansas sounds very interesting have to check it out. Korean cinema is very overlooked in this country as a whole they have made some terrific films like Parasite, Train To Busan, The Host including the two you mentioned and more. South Korea and Japanese films are among my favorite foreign films. Excellent recommendations Darren thumbs way up!!
I've seen The Host & Train to Busan & HIGHLY recommend them too!
Korean movies has it originality. A lot of drama series came from Hong Kong but Korean drama are very much better. The word is originality.
I loved Donald Glover on “Community”!
Darren-I tracked down “First Love,” I could not believe how good it was. The female characters were fantastic-especially the women who is avenging her boyfriend. The humour. Thanks, keep it up.
Thanks for another list, my son and I both have covid and stuck at home miserable so it will certainly get reviewed!
Feel better....😷
well done. I like your style.
Apocalypto is in my top ten all time. Love Deja Vu just don't overthink it, The Missing is for people who love acting as an art form, haven't seen six or seven movies on this list I'm definitely gonna watch a few of em. I knew you were gonna do well i subbed when you had less than 20k.
Ooohhhh I wanna see I Saw The Devil, looks amazing, and thank you you for the shout-out to Enemy At The Gates, one of my favorite worl war 2 films, sooo amazing.
But when you mentioned Columbia, I gotta say, what about Every? Such a highly underrated film, most people I know have never even heard of it, such a great film, most don't even know exist.
Love your #1 pick. This movie is awesome. Time for a rewatch!!
I Saw the Devil is nearly perfect.
I'm a new sub to your channel and find it very entertaining. I have Amazon Prime in the UK. It was the first subscription that I bought after getting a Roku and ditching SKY. One movie I found recently was Wrath of Man Prime Original. Really good and would recommend
Dude!!! You mention Ichi the Killer!!! Nobody brings that flick up. Mad respect points my man, mad.
These compilations are superb. I would be doomscrolling streaming sites without them. Thank you, FC.
I Saw the Devil and the Japanese movie Audition are simply the most terrifying movies ever - because they could easily be real. ISTD starts out with a horrific crime which you think is the shocker to get your attention and "it can't get any worse than that!" but then the subsequent crimes and the finale just keep it going.
Brilliant as always !
I was tempted to skip forward to just see the top picks, but I ended up watching the entire video and I'm glad I did! Nice job!
you make me want to watch movies again. I really appreciate your energy
Omg I had no idea Man With The Screaming Brain was online!!! Thank you so much!! I love this movie!!
The Prestige is one of nolans top3 imo.
Gets even better when you watching it a 2nd time and realize all the hints and clues and that the movie mirrors those 3 steps of a magic act.
Apocalypto is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time! Soooo good and a wild ride of a movie!
Have you watched The Vast of Night? An indie sci-fi flick from a first-time director that just knocked my socks off. I'm really surprised I haven't seen you mention it (or perhaps I just missed it).
Thank you for the recommendation! I've added it to the list.
Yes great movie!
Defendor reminds me of Special with Michael Rapaport. Its one of my favorite movies of all time. Extremely dark comedy, also like Super with Rain Wilson. Out of all 3, I think Special is the best, and think you, Darren would agree
Would love for Michael Bay to do more War /Conflict type action movies. as much as I love Transformers and his big budget work, films like 13 hours truly show his talent. Also a nod to Pain & Gain because of how off the beaten path that film is for Bay too.
If yo have not seen also add the free ones
Odd Thomas - Comedy fantasy horror - This was really good. Somehow I never heard of it until recently
Anna 2013 - Murder Thriller - This is slow but really good.
Two night Stand - Rom-com - a decent date movie
Unlocked 2017 - Spy thriller action
I.Q. 1994 Rom-Com Albert Einstein and Meg Ryan- oldie but a goodie
Frailty 2002 - Silence of the lamb type
Night Hunter 2018 - Henry Cavill Ben Kingsley Alexandra Daddario - Serial Killer murder mystery
surprisingly
The entire Odd Thomas book series is fantastic. Anton was perfect as the lead. Had hoped they would have filmed the next chapter, but alas. 😞
Definitely read the books. Koontz never disappoints with the scares and fantasy.
I watched I don't feel at home in this world anymore on Netflix. It was a dark comedy and interesting watch.
Thanks for the list. I am a couple of generations past watching any of them.
Great list...haven't seen some of these, love the ones on the list I have. Predator 2 is great.
Many of these movies are not available in Canada. Some are, but on Disney+ and not on Prime. An interesting list, thank you for your time. Cheers!
"the devil all the time" Is on Netflix One of the best movies I've seen recently...
Thank you 😊
Great picks👍. Check out the 70’s film Juggernaut with Anthony Hopkins. It was a real surprise and one I somehow missed over the years 👍👍😉
my family is from southern Mississippi and I grew up in Atlanta - no wonder I like the sound of your voice LOL
Yes, I watched DEFENDOR because at that time one of my fav actor's was in it her name is Lisa Rani Ray
Bruce Campbell also directed My Name is Bruce.
had actually just recently saw Push when the pandemic started since my late mother saw it when I was younger but I had never gotten around to it. Loved it 🌹🌹
Great List. I will be checking out 'Defendor'. I just watched a great psycho horror thriller on Prime called "The Deeper You Dig". The directing, acting, and storyline was genuine. The villain, John Adams, is on his way up, along with his daughter, Zelda Adams.
Defendor, loved it.
I saw the devil is epic and disturbing. Loved it. Great shout
Love Deja Vu. But Apocalypto is an amazing movie. Loosely based on The Naked Prey with Cornel Wilde.
I saw the Devil is great. Thanks for the recommendation. I liked the Korean style take on American serial killer tropes.
13 hours was really good and I learned a lot about that event. Pretty intense.
I need to watch Arkansas. I forgot you mentioned some time ago that you were from MS, so am I! Need to get back to visit and eat some good food....
Your assessment of Push is right on, I thought the same thing! Deja Vu such a great film! Apocalypo should've won best picture!
I think I saw that columbiana was both in rated and unrated on Amazon prime this month
I saw the Devil is an apt No 1, it's totally unlike any cop and criminal movie I have seen.
A great movie that surprisingly few people have seen is Birdy, starring Nicolas Cage and Matthew Modine. Cage actually had one of his teeth removed for his role as an injured vietnam vet.
