    Another great video! In reference to Bad Words and Jason Bateman's directing talent, I highly recommend The HBO limited series The Outsider. Ben Mendohlson stars, and it's just an amazing watch. I didn't read the book it was based on, but the high quality of the mini series made me want to. In addition, I took my nephews to the theater to see Paddington 2 (expecting to take a nap) and ended up liking it more than they did.

      @stanphillips7277 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, I'm a "Constant Reader" (as King likes to put it) of Stephen King's work, but I too went into The Outsider without having read it. I enjoyed it thoroughly! Bateman's directing, and his acting were both excellent and, Ben Mendohlson was perfect for his role so , kudos to the casting director right?
      I'll almost always watch anything that isn't "Based on characters created by Stephen King" .
      Having said that, I couldn't watch the latest mini series "The Stand" having read it, and then read it again when it was rereleased in an even longer "Author's cut" type novel ( pretty long to begin with, even for King).
      I really wanted to like it, even after the critic's said it was awful, which doesn't sway me from giving it a shot. I figure, I'm a fan. Maybe that'll give me an advantage going in. So I got 20 minutes into it and realized it was really unwatchable. Being a fan probably had the opposite effect.
      I did however enjoy the remake of the classic 'Carrie', and all 30 episodes of "Castle Rock" with Brenden Gleason as the protagonist. He did such a great job and, even with his Scottish accent I _still_ had to read that he was Mel Gibson's big best friend in "Braveheart" 😂
      I think you can find it on Hulu. I just resubscribed to Hulu's ad free and dropped HBO max for now. It's only slightly cheaper but, I'd seen a good deal of what HBO max had to offer (I'm sure I could have sifted through all their content and found a few worth watching, but I watch 3 or 4 movies a night so, and I've learned it's expensive if you don't limit your services to a couple at a time...I'll likely switch to something else after the month is up 😂).
      Alright James, nice talking to (at) you...I'll see ya' around ✌️🎬

      @@stanphillips7277 Thank you for the detailed reply. You could live a whole life and only read books written by Stephan King or watch Movies/shows based on those stories. It's a major commitment and Stephen King is profilic and a master. Thanks again!

    • @stanphillips7277
      @stanphillips7277 Před 2 lety +1

      @@jamesjeffrey525 It's so true right? At 12 yrs old I started reading these scary stories. I can't recall the name of these books but, something like "2 minutes till midnight" or "After midnight" , quick little reads. I then bought Clive Barker's "Books of Blood" and, I suppose I enjoyed them on some level but, someone was throwing away a box of books and, I took them just to see if there were any I might want to check out.
      So I had seen King's movies but, I hadn't read (or seen) a few that were in the box. 1 of which was "Pet Semetary". I thought I'd read a chapter and, if I didn't enjoy it as much as the films I'd read something else.
      So I ended up staying up all night until I'd finished it 😂
      I'd never read anything with such rich characters, the dialogue, the ability to describe things so thoroughly. He was so intent upon painting an accurate picture in your imagination, such detail, and such humor! References to music, pop culture, characters having conversations that were so authentic to the way people _actually_ speak right?
      So I connected with his verbose (some say to a fault right?) style of fighting. Like most great stories his had a combination of horror sure, but drama, suspense, humor, etc ..
      So I rooted through this box and found, "The Stand" , "Carrie", "Christine" , "Four past Midnight" , "Dolores Claiborne", "The Tommyknockers" and, quite a few more.
      I then was on a mission to obtain and, read everything he'd written and, everyone who knew me knew it.
      I got Stephen King for Christmas, and birthdays.
      I've got some catching up to do right now. Time constraints, life right? He writes everyday except Christmas he claims and, I haven't been able to keep up 😂
      I remember David Letterman having him on and, he had "Top 10 Stephen King Book Titles" I think it was and, I'll never forget one of them was "I wrote this in the cab on the way to the studio" 🤣
      So yeah, you really could read nothing but King for the rest of your life and, still he'll always be a step ahead of ya'.
      I read somewhere that future generations will look back on Stephen the way we look at Poe or Dickens. The greatest story teller of this era. I think that's about right.
      I've read some from Dean Koontz that are in a similar enough style to King that I entertained the idea that he might be using another pseudonym besides Richard Bachman but, it was short lived. It's a different guy , and he's very good when he's good but, King is just some intangible step above the rest in my humble opinion.
      I like that he's involved in these reboots of movies like "Carrie" and "It". Of course These series' like "The Outsider" and "Castle Rock". I thought the latest "Carrie" was very good. The Stand was a tall order though. I didn't like the approach they used and, I couldn't get past the 20 minute mark without bailing.
      If it's possible to make a movie from that one that does it justice, He'll have to try again like he did with "It" I think.
      Anyway James, it's nice chatting with (at 😂) ya'...I'll see you around huh? Be safe and well!✌️

    Once again, another huge bunch of my fav films on this list. It's annoying that no matter how long I watch HBO Max they don't have a CLUE what I like. I could only find most of these films by searching for them. Thirteenth Floor is another one of my favorite movies. Haven't watched it in a while. I have it on VHS and DVD. I remember buying a discount VHS many MANY years ago. You know a movie is good if you rewatch it on an old VHS in full screen (4:3) format with spanish subtitles burned in you can't turn off. Had to check and yes, The Thirteenth Floor came out BEFORE THE MATRIX! I don't think the Matrix is a rip off but The Thirteenth Floor was first.

    Looking forward to seeing Spartan, '71, and The Survivor...I've seen the rest. Bad Words is one of my favorite Bateman films, along with Extract, another lesser known, lesser esteemed film of his, that is, in my opinion, brilliant. And, apropos of nothing, another film on HBO to watch is Nobody's Fool, with Paul Newman and Jessica Tandy, among others. I saw this in the theater when it came out, and it became a perennial favorite for me thereafter. I think it is one of Newman's best, most apt performances, and it's a funny but thoughtful film with some dark notes that still remains relatively light. It feels like a Russo novel, or some other lighter literary fiction fare about a ne'er-do-well character in a small town who is reunited with his son and has some growing/reconciliation to undergo. P.s. there's a smirking, wise-ass turn by Bruce Willis in here, before he was ruined by M. Night.

      Bruce Willis wasn't rund by M.Night he was Rund by the cheap Dime a Dozen Action Flicks he started making at the end of his career Unbroken was a great movie 🎥 and I Believe Darien Van Dame would agree with me on that and Glass was good until the Crappy ending which I won't try to defend but still my point ☝️ is made

    Glad you brought up Revolver. Has some downright terrible reviews, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in teachings from Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, or Alan Watts. Not necessarily the same teachings perse, but you'll get what I mean if you read from them/listen to them on CZcams.
