I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for some great suggestions.👍🏻
As always you are the KING of the hidden gems. I haven't heard of most of these, at all. And honestly Power of the Dog, well, it's the definition of slow. It takes forever to get to the point. And it's a good point, to be sure, but you will suffer for a bit waiting.
I hate movies like The Occupant… it’s basically about a bad person that does bad things and suffers no consequences… and it was highly contrived, his ex-wife backed down at the end…. Just horrid. 🤢🤮🤮🤮
Another great list. 🔥🔥🔥
You have never steered me wrong...thanks for your recommendations! I tell everyone about flick connection!
CZcams is fantastic, because a guy like this gets a chance to build an audience and it's purely merit-based. There are no producers/editors deciding who is worthy of being a film critic. I hope he's well-compensated because these videos are great. It's the only CZcams channel that I actually turned on the notifications. Great job Darren.
In contrast, I cannot stand his slow cadence and the script being used repeats concepts one after another repeatedly. Why the fuck do I need to see you on the screen at all when we are talking about movies?
I paused the video and individually looked up each movie on other channels so that I could actually get a clear and concise idea of whether I would be interested. Thumbs up for the pinned comment though, and since I did utilize the list I will also like the video. I won't be back though.
How power of the dog was so popular I will never n???
Power of the dog is great if you can't sleep
Best review channel out there. Well done again my friend.
Appreciate that
You need to do a video of your personal Top 20 (or 10, 15) favorite movies of all time. I understand your focused theme with this channel (which I enjoy), but it would be even more insightful to see your movie choices despite streaming services. Always love your streaming picks. Thanks again for a great video & list of suggestions!
Agreed! A favorites list in all categories (inclusive or separate). Please include Korean
And dystopian/post apocalyptic
Darren already did some of those .Check his homepage
@@rohypnotist6263 thanks!!
Is it just me or is Jesse Plemons slowly morphing into Philip Seymour Hoffman. I can't be the only one who has noticed this or am I.
He played his son in an amazing film, The Master. Paul Thomas Anderson saw the connection more than a decade ago.
Never thought about it to now.... but you're a thousand percent correct lol
They play many characters using skin masks. They have 3 main roles.
Absolutely I thought this also haha
@@Madanth0ny it's Matt Damon actually. Phil is playing someone else. Not sure yet.
Great to see this all the way from Gozo, Malta
I'm 50, Adam Project was hilarious, fun, and a pretty good overall show.
A movie and I agree
I was pleasantly surprised
Yes, I also thought it was pretty damn good. Maybe because I wasn't expecting much. Idk it was funny af though
Great list. Useful as always. Do you have the link for the previous video you mentioned at the start?
Thanks Darren for another awesome list! Lost bullet was thoroughly enjoyable! I really appreciate your foreign recommendations and that you bother to distinguish whether to go subbed or dubbed. That is truly going extra mile! I wish I had found you earlier but I'm subscribed now!😀🍿 curious though, how long does a movie play on netflix? and a series/TV shows? as you can tell I'm checking out your older lists 6months...1 year and some of your suggestions are still available! so grateful!😊
Dude, you are just so good at knocking these overviews out of the park. It’s crazy how well you break down each movie and summarize it, and provide color and comparison to it all. Excellent work as always.
And I don’t know if you have watched “the map of tiny perfect things” but I thought it was surprisingly well done for a groundhog day approach.
Thanks
Disagree strongly about assessment of Gal Gadot in Red Notice - I actually thought this was some of her best work, she seemed to be having a ton of fun in the role, and it felt lighter and more charismatic to me than her typical Wonder Woman stuff.
yah man shes just nice to look at lmao
I watch all Gal's scene in slow-mo and sound off. 100x better
Great recommendations Darren. Thanks!
Hey Darren! Love your channel it is my GO TO SOURCE FOR NEW STREAMING CONTENT! You should have a show on cable or NBC or similar. Your show is better than many shows on the networks. My wife loves you too.
Thank you for all the great recommendations 😊
I'd be lost without you Darren, thank you man!
You are the MAN when it comes to recommending and quick reviewing movies idk how you are so good at this thank you!!!!
I just got a flick connection t shirt from my GF.. and I'm wearing it now.. life is good
As a police dispatcher/911 operator I must admit that The Guilty was one of the most unrealistic representations of my job. I am only speaking for the American version, I haven't seen the original.
How so ?
@@rustyshackleford6035 at the risk of giving a few spoilers, officers under investigation are suspended with or without pay until the investigation is complete. Not sent to dispatch. We don't transfer calls around on 911 to other calltakers/dispatchers. The amount of personal phone calls he took and made were unheard of. Hanging up on the overdose call would have gotten him a whole other investigation and probably fired. Where I worked (one of the largest in the country) light duty officers didn't take 911 calls, just non emergency. I get that they did what they did for the purpose of telling the story they wanted to tell, like any movie. I am sure most other jobs are misrepresented as well.
Thanks for weighing in, I get when reality needs to bent a little in movies for plot sake. But Hollywood and we the viewers in turn have gotten lazy. I enjoyed watching John wick, but the scene when they have a shootout in a crowded train station, and nobody notices because they have silencers? Utterly ridiculous. P.s. I could never do your job...ever. Good to know you’re there👍🏾
The original is fantastic! When you watch it you feel at first that you’re watching him for another mistake. Then you are drawn in to the point that you are tense and you are him. You from doubting his a good cop to believing he’s dedicated and fall right into his shoes as the call progresses! I haven’t seen the American version but as I have stated before the original is really good!
I couldn’t make it through Power of the Dog. Guess I should have stuck around for the end.
Still not worth it. One plot twist that a passing knowledge of infectious diseases gives away. Unlikeable characters, manipulative content, promoted obsessively due to the "toxic male" messaging (which was much better depicted in American Beauty and elsewhere), and the low IMDb score for an "Oscar" film all speak volumes for why it was divisive at best...and yes, poorly paced too.
One of the worst movies I've ever sat through , I watched it in four parts hoping it would get better . Nope .
I fell asleep in his number one choice. Wouldnt risk number two either. Guess will try 3 or 4 tonight
Thanks for the Marlow hook up bro. Awesome! You rock!
Nice list.
BTW..
I just saw the Northman today in theaters and it's really good if anyone is interested.
I'm sure that movie 🎥 will make a list one it seems like the kinda movie Darien Van Damme would watch 👍
nice! tbh, pretty excited to see it.
The northman is absolutely amazing. Definitely worth checking out
Loving the chapter set up.
Thanks Darren.
Watched The Forgotten Battle right when it was released. Excellent film. I loved everything about it.
We LOVE your channel!! Have you seen The Invitation?
Thank you!
Lost Bullet might fit me best. Like your honesty. Thank you so much for your work. Goodnight 🌙😴💤
21:37 That’s a glider, probably a ‘Horsa’ troop transport (to be fair, it might be a ‘Waco’).
(Definitely not a B-52 - a jet powered bomber from the 50s).
But the film looks good regardless.
I had an uncle injured at Arnhem, as far as I know the ‘Battle of the Scheldt’ has never been covered in a film before.
Correct. Glider, not bomber. Definite must-watch if WWII flicks are your jam.
The bomber was probably a Lancaster...
Airspeed Horsa glider and C47 tugs with a little Star trek magic we may see a B52
I love your page, do you also do TV series??
Great recommendations! I've watched about 1/2 of them over the past couple weeks. Red Dot on Netflix is also very good. Can't remember if you've covered it or not, but worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
‘Below zero’ was much better
@@rakeshresearch saw it a couple months ago, prefer Red Dot.
Keep it up, wife and I love watching your vids and think your reviews are spot on!!
That was fantastic, Darren. Your recommendations are first class. Stand out ones for me, so far, have been:- The Guilty & (Hashtag) Alive. Will check your other recommendations. Received your #1 Newsletter and it was 👌👌👌 Many thanks for sharing your FLICK CONNECTION PRESENTATION. Catch you on your next review 👍👍👍
The Guilty was good!
I viewed "I SAW THE DEVIL" per one of your previous recommendations and WOW ! It was on top of my need to see lists for a while. Bang.
I will say I did NOT enjoy HIS HOUSE very much, although a few segments were scary, it overall wasn't enjoyable.
Let’s hope so, ‘cause I’m about to cancel my subscription to this boring streaming service.
Watch Metal Lords 1# before you cancel I Loved it 😃
@@rustyshackleford6035 loved you in KOTH ; )
In The Forgotten Battle (excellent movie BTW), it’s a British Horsa glider they’re in when they crash not a bomber. It matters because it’s another a bomber crew a portion of the film focuses on but British glider troops during Operation Market Garden.
The Invisible Guest and Innocent, both star Mario Casas, both on Netflix and both are great!! Thanks for the list!!
Looking for a movie to watch tonight? Check out this video!! 💜 czcams.com/video/e7096sl6xVc/video.html
Does this list apply to Netflix in Canada?
Thanks again!
Def gonna try Lost Bullet! Munich: the edge of war, the Forgotten Battle, Power of the Dog
I loved The Occupant.... I watched it again after I watched you video... love your choices
Nearly all of them are on the Netflix Australia and I have seen about 5 so far. Thanks.
Darren, you NEVER fail to offer "an eclectic collection of wonderful films", "most ALL of which, are NOT on my radar". ;) Thanks!!
The forgotten battle was dope.
I was actually surprised how good The Adam Project was. Had me laughing a lot and there was some pretty good action.
Great channel. Thx for all the research and great reviews. 👍👍
I've watched both Against The Ice and The Forgotten Battle and can highly recommend both.
I'm an APK guy. I basically have access to all the films you review. Have you ever heard of a movie called LOWLIFE? It's basically Tarintino meets Lucha Libre. Loved this dark gritty flick. It's worth checking out.
Nice to see that you watch some spanish movies. As you mentioned in the video, most of the films with either Javier Gutierrez or Mario Casas are pretty good and very recomendable.
Black Crab though, I could not get into it, kind of a slow pace for that genre, I found myself wanting it to end rapidly. Swedish, make furniture and no movies please :-)
"Full of super chill, cooling infused foam" Best part of the video
Oh you missed lords of metal excellent buddy movie
I love that he has to CONVINCE his audience to try the dubbed version over the subtitled.
Glad I finally watched "Sorry to bother you", but YEAH, Im glad you also warned me about the third act.
Love your videos. Always looking forward to the next list of movie suggestions.
I do like most of your recommendations. it is particularly useful when you mention the directors' other works as I get to look into those also. Example was "The Island" directed by Michael Bay. One of his other films came up in a list of yours, but you mentioned The Island which I ended up watching first and loved it! Keep up the good work.
Damn dude, Gal Gadot got judged pretty hard here.
Came off as dislike and hate of her as a person.
Not really her character wasn't that great.
@@ileanahernandez1709 I get that, but he was talking about her in general. Pretty harsh judgement.
I always love your show - value your recommendations. they usually hit right on the spot for me. I watched The Occupant right after viewing this episode and to be honest i just didnt track with it overall. Yeah its full of messed up _ _ _ _, somewhat intriguing, but overall it didnt land. I'd give it a 6 at best. Anyway, I do love your show.
Till death is pretty good!
Haven't seen The Occupant yet however I did see The Power of the Dog and really liked it. Also liked Munich - Edge of War the acting was really good.
One of the best lists by far 💯
The B-52 wasn't developed in that until after World war II in the 1950s with jet engines. The b-24, the B-17, b-29 were World war II aircraft but not the B-52.
Not to mention the aircraft that crashed was a glider.
Ok, Darren: That shirt to bed, in that bright light, with that perfectly sculpted hair, and the fake immago to sleep thing, really Darren? I like you, so this is a tease with endearment.
Loved Black Crab.
Hello. Great peaks mate. I would like to add that that Furioza is closer to Green Street Hooligans then a gang movie:) it's Just moved from UK standard to polish standard😁
Thankyou for updated.new movies.
Netflix like action.
PERFECT timing as always Darren. I'm definitely watching a few of these this weekend
Hi Darrin, Thanks for this list;😊 I'm subscribed to you, & to Spooky Astronauts Emma, who Reviews & Recommends mostly Thriller & Horror films, so I've Seen: The Rental, The Guilty, Till Death, His House, #Alive, & I just saw The Paramedic 3 nites ago, & I really liked them all, except for The Rental I felt was Ok, cus I hated its sad ending as they all got Murdered & their killer was Unidentified & Free!😧 So I look forward to watching Power of the Dog, The Occupant, & likely a few others on your list, Thanks again!😊
Forgotten battle is great as well 👌
Yoo Darren my man, that intro synth beat song was sick what is that!?
Windfall and Black Crab are great
Please do documentaries
Just a couple comments…The Forgotten Battle is great, one of best recent WW2 films and about a part and area of the European war very seldom mentioned, The Scheldt Estuary battles in Holland and Belgium. ALIVE. Is again one of the superior Korean Zombie film they seem to be reinvigorating the genre! I believe there was a English language remake of this but I forget the title. Also their Zombie films could all be connected , TRAIN TO BUSAN, WE ARE ALL DEAD and ALIVE could be in the same outbreak! Thanks!
Yes The Forgotten Battle really surprised me.
it was called 'alone' and it had not a patch on the korean version, such a great movie! i believe they are all connected through the same timeline.
Hey DVD, I'd love to see your take on a quintessential movie buff viewing list. I know that'd be a huge undertaking but a top 20 or so list could be cool for people trying to start knowing movies instead of just watching them.
Wow that is very difficult, I have tried this many times and 20 is just a very low number. I just went over at least 20 in my head while typing this. Maybe specify a genre or what you don't like in a movie. I mean, where to start? So many classics, cult, nr1's, lesser known, personal favorites.... Very difficult. I can give you my list right now. But a different one tomorrow.
I like your videos your the go to guy for my movies
Once again, I disagree with what you said about The Adam Project and Red Notice but I appreciate the list of movies I haven't seen.
Another great list, Darren. Ccheck out the Korean movie 'Spiritwalker' (2020). It was one of the most original and exciting movies I've seen in a long time. It's a fantasy action movie about a man who loses his memory and subsequently wakes up in a new body every twelve hours. There are dangerous people trying to kill him; criminals and possibly intelligence agents, as he tries to survive and figure out what's going on.
I need those MARLOW PILLOWS
Finally found a list my staff can look forward to viewing especially when work gets a bit slow. Thanks so much!
Been looking for some new good horror/thrillers , definitely checking out his house and the occupant
The aircraft that goes down in the marsh is a Airspeed AS.51 Horsa that was a British troop-carrying glider used iin WW2. The B52 is an American modern jet engine bomber, think Vietnam to the present day.
Wow. A B-52 crash during WW2. Who knew that Buffers could time travel? The first B-52's didn't become operational until 1955 - 10yrs AFTER WW2 ended. AND, B-52's are long-range Strategic Bombers and NOT a troop transport/cargo aircraft.
The bulletin board at my brother's job is loaded with notes containing Netflix passwords. I may just check out a few of these films.
the rental was pretty good. red notice was alright.
Maybe u could do a top 10 unknown horror movies on CZcams?? There’s tons but I wonder which ones are worth it…thx!!
Jesse Plemons needs to wind up doing a biopic of Phillip Seymour Hoffman!😂
Question: How do you select between “dubbed” and “sub-titles” on any given movie? I use Prime and Firestick. Please help...I am getting old. Thx
There are settings by pushing up or down on the remote (during play) that give you subtitles and language options. Although not all have a dubbed option.
I see a lot of subtitle movies and sometimes try the dubbed version and I have to admit they're very well done. I only know two languages however there's so much cinema our there that I don't want to miss out on.
I'm all about the subtitles.
Adam project was great must see
Forgotten battle is one of the best war movies I've ever seen.
For me the most important character and greatest performance in The Power of the Dog was Greenwood's music. Overpowered any of the acting. And why wasn't Zoe Saldana mentioned as being a big name actor in the adam project?
Not a B-52, it was a British Glider Airspeed AS.51 Horsa, they're towed by bombers and then released to float into battle territory.
His House was good. Very original. I liked the spiritual integration at the end👍🏻
Check out Yaksha: Ruthless Operations. Just an unexpectedly fun and beautiful watch.
I couldn't stomach the first 15 minutes of The Power of the Dog. I'm allergic to propaganda at this point.
Thinkin maybe someone needs to look up the actual meaning of the word propaganda.
What propaganda? Let me guess, because it portrayed a somewhat wimpy slightly effeminate man, you assumed he was gay and it was a gay movie? 🤣 You missed the part where the weird kid man’s up and kills his tormentor in epic fashion. But dude, there was no propaganda in the movie, you were triggered because you are a homophobe. Too funny!
Darren (Very curious!) and all you film buffs….what is your all time favourite film?
Against the Ice is a really good film.
The Forgotten Battle: B52 crash? B52 first flew in 1952, a little after WW2. This was a wayward British glider landing behind enemy lines probably towed by a C47. No B52’s in sight.
It was British, so more likely Lancaster, not C47.
@@nandisaand5287 Actually a Short Sterling or Halifax would be more likely than a Lancaster if the tow planes were British. However the RAF acquired nearly 2000 C47’s under Lend Lease naming them Dakotas. They were used, among other things, to drop paratroopers and to tow gliders.
I watched ‘Til Death’ just to see Megan and expecting it to be rubbish...
...I was surprised at how good the film was.
This list seems really solid! I loved your thoughts on the ones I’ve already watched and added 5 to my list to get to.
