I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
    Thanks for watching!

Faults rather reminded me of the Keitel/Winslet movie Holy Smokes. And Killer Joe is very good, great performances from McConaughey and Emil Hirsch gave great performances, and everyone else was top flight too. Plus I totally agree with Kiss the Girls being the best adaptation of an Alex Cross book yet. I am looking forward to a re-watch of Black Swan and, having loved Amelie, I'll certainly be watching The City of Lost Children.

Love seeing Ron Perlman and Dominique Pinon in the same movie again (Alien Resurrection). Black Swan: "When this movie was released it came out to very mixed reviews mostly mixed from the audience because it is so wild and so weird."
Um, what in the fuck are you talking about? This movie got 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. It got an 84 percent audience score. Both critics and audiences clearly loved this thing. It made a THIRD OF A BILLION DOLLARS in theaters. For a non superhero, non franchise, R-rated, indie drama, A THIRD OF A BILLION DOLLARS. People clearly liked it. It was definitely weird, but that doesn't mean it was particularly polarizing; people loved it.

I went over to watch it on prime after you suggested it, great movie! Definitely interesting to see a more gory and detailed version of the events! Micah I’d focus on Nordic films to get a quality dub. Particularly Netflix’s more recent movie and shows from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, et al, because Scandinavians tend to speak very good English anyway, they often get the original actors to dub their own characters. Katla is a good example but there are plenty on there.

I love Terry Gilliam's films, but opening weekend there was a line around the block for 12 Monkeys, probably due to Brad Pitt and the attention A River Runs Through It brought him.
A theater nearby was screening City of Lost Children and the poster had a quote with high praise from Terry Gilliam.
City of Lost Children is cited as a major influence on the steampunk aesthetic.

I would pay to watch anything with Madeline Stowe in it. I watch 12 Monkeys every so often for several reasons, but she’s the main attraction.

An unusual and sometime disturbing movie which has some comedic elements in it is "The Big Nothing" with Simon Pegg and David Schwimmer. it is a caper movie which goes awry. I liked because it was off the beaten track. Thanks Darren I do watch your videos to get movies to watch and enjoy your commentary.

'Black Swan' isn't a 'bad movie, well made', it's a brilliant movie, well made. I think a lot people don't get that it's a horror movie about obsession and a descent into madness. It's also the very first 'wereswan' movie. I think it's Aronofsky's best movie to date.

City of Lost Children is an AMAZING movie. One of my all time favorites, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone that likes surrealist movies. The English voice acting is a little wonky, so if you happen to speak French that's the better option.

I appreciated Matthew McConaughey in Killer Joe, love when an actor takes risk when it comes to roles. Underrated film that didn't get the attention it deserved. Also, Killer Joe actually started out as a Broadway play.

Nice list, as always. Gonna leave this here again, not sure if it got lost in other threads but I've mentioned this movie before- Excision. Think Ginger Snaps but much much darker (still a sense of black comedy in there though). Especially from a parental perspective, this is a very disturbing movie.

As a long time film buff (showing my age) who had a huge collection of laserdiscs because back then, it was the only way to best see the movie when it was not in a proper theater. Later I ran the forum at DVDtalk. Somehow I stumbled across your channel and subscribed some time ago. This list though, finally had me hitting the bell icon. This is one of the best movie channels for me, because I so much respect your take. My only problem, I have a spreadsheet of movies/shows to watch, and the list is getting much longer now and I am falling more and more behind. :) Thanks for the content!

It’s not free anymore but for $4 on Amazon you need to see “The Brand New Testament”. Darkly sardonic but also heartwarming as it is ridiculous. One of my favorite recent-ish films.
