I listened to / watched as much of the hearing as possible today. I had an appointment an hour away from home, so I listened in the car on NPR. The republicans, and especially Janky Jim Jordan made utter fools of themselves ! The democrats, on the other hand had serious questions, on point with the matter at hand.. and the witnesses handled themselves professionally and above reproach. This is history .. no matter your political party affiliation .. the proceedings will be rebroadcast so all who were working or otherwise engaged can witness the entire hearing .. I urge EVERY American to listen .. closely.. and with open minds ... We as citizens have as much responsibility for this outcome as those in congress. It is the duty of EVERY citizen to protect and defend the constitution... the benefits of which we do enjoy every day.

Let’s be honest, many of us are standing by, very much ready to fight and die if we must, to protect our nation. We have a divided government and a divided people. If this particular impeachment goes wrong, and Trump stirs the shit, we will rise and put down whoever stands in the way of a free America. We will drag him from the Whitehouse ourselves if we must.

I wondered how many students would not have been “exposed” to sexual assault if he would have spoken up to the authorities when he was first told about the doctor’s misconduct, rather than totally dismissing the earlier report. How is this man still in Congress?

@libra8a but the Russian investigation did discover that trump and his campaign knew that Russia was attempting to interfere in the election and did nothing to stop them as they believed it would work to their advantage. Also whilst there may have been no full blown collusion (Due to people around trump stopping him from colluding) the investigation also showed that trump did everything he could to obstruct the investigation. I consider the GOP that decided to back Trump as a candidate for the Republican Party, to be the dumbest SOBs ever. They - at that point - must have seen what a completely unfit candidate he was. They failed in their job to have the best possible candidate run and now the whole country is paying the price. Anyone who read Trump’s book The Art Of The Deal could see he was a con man and thief and reveled in “winning” no matter who got hurt. It’s all about him and always has been.

Honestly trump getting elected has disturbed the balance, it has massively lowered people's expectations of a president. Back then you can proudly say you're a democrat or republican because of your believes, nowadays claiming to be a republican equals endorsing a mental health patient as the president. If the next president is even half as competent as bush jr people would still be relieved.

The Founders understanding of bribery was derived from English law, under which bribery was understood as an officeholder’s abuse of the power of an office to obtain a private benefit rather than for the public interest. This definition not only encompasses Traitor Trump’s conduct-it practically defines it.
The Ukraine scandal began in the spring of 2019, with a series of contacts between Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy, and Ukrainian officials. In mid-July, Trump decided to withhold nearly $400 million in aid to Ukraine that had already been appropriated by Congress. The White House offered no explanation, except to blame “interagency delay.” A week later, Trump spoke by phone to the recently elected Ukrainian president, Zelensky. The memorandum released by the White House describing that call-which is consistent with the accounts of the whistleblower complaint that first brought this scandal to light-reads like a classic shakedown.
According to the memo, after exchanges of flattery, Trump states that “we do a lot for Ukraine” and that “we spend a lot of effort and a lot of time,” before he complains that the relationship is not always “reciprocal.” Zelensky then raises the question of military aid to Ukraine, to which Trump immediately responds, “I would like you to do us a favor though,” and proceeds to ask Zelensky to investigate two unfounded conspiracy theories: one involving the server containing emails stolen from the DNC during the 2016 election, and the other involving the thoroughly debunked claim about then-VP Biden, his potential reelection opponent. Trump asks Zelensky to work with Giuliani and AG Barr to investigate his potential opponent and so aid his own reelection campaign. There can be no misunderstanding that Traitor Trump was abusing his official power in the conduct of foreign policy to get a foreign government to investigate his political rival.
Article II, Section 4, says the president “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

We have among the best in the world. There is no reason at all to seek foreign help against a political opponent. Ukraine's resources are, far and away, nowhere near ours.
There's a proper way to do things. This wasn't it. That much, at least, should be so painfully obvious that we shouldn't even have to discuss it. The fact that we are shows just how willing people are to put aside the law and any semblance of wisdom or critical thought or morality in order to support someone who is giving them what they want (which is ironic, given that the things they "want" end up biting them in the anus every single time).

@@samuelrosander1048 I think I disagree. Trump has a reason not to trust the FBI and CIA, correct? Additionally, wouldn't it be the President's number one job to ensure the integrity of our election? And wouldn't we expect our President to do whatever it takes to get those answers? We're talking about a leading candidate in the polls that could become the next President. Can you rely on lower level people in that regard? Sometimes at your work, don't the bosses have to get together and agree before the peons can get to work?
Clearly Ukraine could have easily said yes or no and then we'd have an answer and move on.
So it can appear to be asking for dirt, and it can also appear to be asking for legitimate information. If the House votes to impeach, the Senate will favor the President in that you have to tilt your hat to allowing the President to do their job effectively.
