- There's attacking, and then there's squeezing - find out the difference and punish defenders when they close the door! This guide breaks down what happens and why it works so that you can add it to your armoury.

How many business days did it take me to respond to James moving back onto the racing line?
Just the right amount 😜
Proud teammate of James here 😂
The same number of business days it takes Fanatec to respond to a support enquiry.
somehow I was completely unaware this was a good tactic to use until a few weeks ago, so good to see you bringing it to more people's attention
is there no radar in iRacing btw? in ACC it doesn't matter that you can't see them in front or behind you, if someone is alongside you then you see them on the radar and can tell when they move across (not that it nullifies this kind of tactic completely or anything, but just helps a little with not getting stuck in the wrong position for longer than necessary like you did)
No advanced radar like in ACC - some overlays show a 'car overlap' radar but nothing that positions the car. I prefer the iRacing solution of throwing money at it and just going back to triples! I went to singles to help simplify streaming etc, but I definitely can't go door-to-door as closely as I want to with single.
Ignorant racers actually think that this behavior is against the rules as they like to blame other people for their bad driving. So expect some hate messages if someone takes the bait and runs off the track.
This is similar to a tactic I use often when defending. I will defend the inside to the point, not all the way. Then if they decide to go down the inside, rather than moving back to the racing line, I hold my line. I know im happy on this line and then it puts the other driver in a uncomfortable position that often leads them to either over shoot braking with such a tight line, or back out as they don't want to go in on such a tight line!
Dude I would LOOOOOVE if you made videos kinda like what SuperGT does. Replays of your races with post commentary and insights just like these...
I'm planning to start a regular race recap along the Dave Cam vibe, if you've seen his race recaps they're super chill

I look forward to them!
I’ve known about this for years but I rarely use it online.
In my experience, the fact that you’re in their blind spot means they’ll just throw the car into you because, even though their spotter will tell them there’s a car on their side, they assume you’re hugging the outside. They’ll even curse at you for “dirty driving”…
I love doing this move, moving back to the optimal line depending on the strength of side drafting. When someone does this to me i slowly run out right before they go for the move but of course not so much that it becomes illegal blocking. As for not knowing the position of the car, I really love having RaceLab's form of helicorsa, it's nowhere near as detailed but it gives a great idea or where exactly the car is as it shows how far alongside they are and also how close in some way. Also listening to their car sound helps I supose but that's one of those finer details
Great explanation!
Mark a look left and right button!!
I did the squeeze a couple of times. And it’s wonderful to see less experienced drivers completely miss their braking point and miss the apex.
Honestly some excellent content here.
Thanks man, I enjoy creating the guides and kicking some inspiration out here
He moves over whilst he's along side you, thats very clever. so youd only be able yo respond when your spotter says 'clear'. Unless you glance right and risk missing the braking zone
Exactly - I only have two eyes and they can't operate independently like a chameleon or something, so I missed him moving over and by then it was too late
Thanks for tip. I learned a new technique. I'm new to sim racing but hopefully get to race high performance cars one day for a team.
Great info. I would add that you need to judge your opponent's aggression levels. There are some guys you just don't want to squeeze as they will gladly bin you.
Definitely - if they have a history of throwing caution to the wind, even at their own cost, then you're toast. Another reason why leagues are great, to force some accountability for that kinda stuff
Great video mate, thanks for sharing
Great recap. I use this a lot and you break it down well
Thanks very much, glad you think so
Love your content Mr DannyLee
Cheers, dude
what about Radar, because in real life race you are able to move your head to know his position
There's no 'full' radar in iRacing, just a spotter. This move was definitely more effective on me because of the blind spot, so there is that. If the tables were turned, I'd have done the same move 100%
Left and right and rear D pad buttons on your wheel? I can battle holding view cam, I mean... You're on a straight and can roughly estimate timing towards the corner.
I was thinking you'd redress with him to the outside of the track as you'd catch a side draft and be on the Aston's inside... Where would the Aston turn if you're there?
Also if the overlap wasn't ideal, as long as you're on the inside, you can do a bit of a versappen 🤷🏁😎👌
@@torbinzix1 I was stunned into a bit of inaction - that's the beauty of racing real people, sometimes they're just deer in headlights. Source: I am a people
@@dannyleeracing fair play, I do like peoples and please don't let it happen again.. that was totally yours✌🏾😎
IDK if it's a thing in iRacing, but he could have been side drafting you a bit as well.
Time for some wide triples or VR, so you can see that right mirror :)
Re-tripling is inevitable at this point - just a matter of pulling my finger out
id say an ultra wide monitor would be better but that's just me.
@@Titanic_198 u cannot see right mirror if your fov is right
@@pamo5900 just see the mirror 🤣 just run mad fov then
@@Titanic_198 you must have never experienced triples then.
I’ll be looking for someone to put jam in my eye while at the market now😊
Staff members are there to help
I was thinking if he had reacted to the move, he could have side drafted the Aston and he'd be on the inside for the next corner
Tried this move a couple times. People seem to get frustrated and end up crashing me or both of us out the race😢. Use at your peril
Great move. But I feel like this could be pretty difficult to pull off in a public split. I think a lot of drivers wouldn’t respond well to being locked into the defensive line, and would respond by door banging the attacker into the wall.
For sure, probably a lot of people will drag both cars into some kind of accident if they don't understand what's happening or just don't like it. Same would probably happen on the real track, too. Here, though, it was a clean shoot.
Or continue straight down the bottom and brake at the normal place but on the inside, careering straight into the side of you as they miss the corner
In ACC & AC you got Car Radar app.
Makes fun squeezing ppl to outside while defending or even attacking.
Such basics iRacing keeps missing for years...
Be careful with this move, if you overwhelm a bad driver with this play, they will crash into you as they overshoot the apex from the inside.
If they go down, they're taking you down with 'em
A few things I've thought of watching this video: This assumes that the defender has a single screen setup and errs on the side of caution when they cannot see the attacker in their blind spot, or can see you on a wider setup. A less aware defender would just turn into you operating under the assumption that the attacker is taking the racing line.
Secondly, it is entirely possible that the attacker was merely sidedrafting you off of the banking, and the squeeze itself was not necessarily an offensive tactic. The sidedraft is a very common and effective strategy in oval racing, and this looked identical to it.
I always hated the word squeeze because it may suggest you're actively pushing the other cars line. In this scenario it's just good race craft and driving straight.
Dont try this with Martin Kenyon.
😅
This isn't true if defending hard on the inside like this, you are saying to the guy on the outside, you are going to be there on the brakes on the next corner blocking his turn in, you should be blocking his manouvre and you make move too early allowing you to be squeezed this is just bad driving, and misinformational
I do point out how my choices caused me to be squeezed - it's kinda the whoooooole point of the video
