      is there no radar in iRacing btw? in ACC it doesn't matter that you can't see them in front or behind you, if someone is alongside you then you see them on the radar and can tell when they move across (not that it nullifies this kind of tactic completely or anything, but just helps a little with not getting stuck in the wrong position for longer than necessary like you did)

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  Před 3 měsíci

      No advanced radar like in ACC - some overlays show a 'car overlap' radar but nothing that positions the car. I prefer the iRacing solution of throwing money at it and just going back to triples! I went to singles to help simplify streaming etc, but I definitely can't go door-to-door as closely as I want to with single.

      Ignorant racers actually think that this behavior is against the rules as they like to blame other people for their bad driving. So expect some hate messages if someone takes the bait and runs off the track.

    This is similar to a tactic I use often when defending. I will defend the inside to the point, not all the way. Then if they decide to go down the inside, rather than moving back to the racing line, I hold my line. I know im happy on this line and then it puts the other driver in a uncomfortable position that often leads them to either over shoot braking with such a tight line, or back out as they don't want to go in on such a tight line!

    I’ve known about this for years but I rarely use it online.
    In my experience, the fact that you’re in their blind spot means they’ll just throw the car into you because, even though their spotter will tell them there’s a car on their side, they assume you’re hugging the outside. They’ll even curse at you for “dirty driving”…

  • @rickdubbink

    I love doing this move, moving back to the optimal line depending on the strength of side drafting. When someone does this to me i slowly run out right before they go for the move but of course not so much that it becomes illegal blocking. As for not knowing the position of the car, I really love having RaceLab's form of helicorsa, it's nowhere near as detailed but it gives a great idea or where exactly the car is as it shows how far alongside they are and also how close in some way. Also listening to their car sound helps I supose but that's one of those finer details

    He moves over whilst he's along side you, thats very clever. so youd only be able yo respond when your spotter says 'clear'. Unless you glance right and risk missing the braking zone

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  Před 3 měsíci

      There's no 'full' radar in iRacing, just a spotter. This move was definitely more effective on me because of the blind spot, so there is that. If the tables were turned, I'd have done the same move 100%

      Left and right and rear D pad buttons on your wheel? I can battle holding view cam, I mean... You're on a straight and can roughly estimate timing towards the corner.
      I was thinking you'd redress with him to the outside of the track as you'd catch a side draft and be on the Aston's inside... Where would the Aston turn if you're there?
      Also if the overlap wasn't ideal, as long as you're on the inside, you can do a bit of a versappen 🤷🏁😎👌

    @Spiniker0056 Před 3 měsíci

    Great move. But I feel like this could be pretty difficult to pull off in a public split. I think a lot of drivers wouldn’t respond well to being locked into the defensive line, and would respond by door banging the attacker into the wall.

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  Před 3 měsíci +1

      For sure, probably a lot of people will drag both cars into some kind of accident if they don't understand what's happening or just don't like it. Same would probably happen on the real track, too. Here, though, it was a clean shoot.

    A few things I've thought of watching this video: This assumes that the defender has a single screen setup and errs on the side of caution when they cannot see the attacker in their blind spot, or can see you on a wider setup. A less aware defender would just turn into you operating under the assumption that the attacker is taking the racing line.
    Secondly, it is entirely possible that the attacker was merely sidedrafting you off of the banking, and the squeeze itself was not necessarily an offensive tactic. The sidedraft is a very common and effective strategy in oval racing, and this looked identical to it.

  • @SammyHendrix507
    @SammyHendrix507 Před 3 měsíci

    I always hated the word squeeze because it may suggest you're actively pushing the other cars line. In this scenario it's just good race craft and driving straight.

    This isn't true if defending hard on the inside like this, you are saying to the guy on the outside, you are going to be there on the brakes on the next corner blocking his turn in, you should be blocking his manouvre and you make move too early allowing you to be squeezed this is just bad driving, and misinformational

    • @dannyleeracing
