What's the CR? :)
😂🤣😭
Two years ago..... you missed a perfect opportunity to Trolololol people. czcams.com/video/2Z4m4lnjxkY/video.html&ab_channel=DavidSkipEverling
@@MisterTutor2010 challenge rating. Basically a way to guage the threat level they pose to PC's
D&D ogres sound a lot like the kids at my workplace. Can't count past ten and smashing and screaming at anything you don't understand is a lot like the typical five year old.
That's what happens when you hire child Labour
I now understand why Thor calls The Hulk a troll when he meets him.
Would love a dive into Dragonlance!
31:00 maybe the intellect devourer and if you fail the riddle they try to eat your brain?
Silver Triforce But doesn’t that mean that you’re a bad meal
Krinn Ogres started out as creatures called Irda. There is a whole book about how they fell.
Just point and say "SQUIRREL" and the ogre will be distracted.
My man acting like the nursery rhyme is the epitome of Trolls hahaha
Adventure hook: PC's while traveling come upon a village that has nobody around. Upon getting closer they see every door and window boarded up. When they first enter the town, one the windows opens and a portly bald human male opens one of the window shutters on the 2nd story inn window. He calls to the PC's, and after introducing himself, tells the PC's that the villagers are all hiding, because an ogre has taken up residence in their community barn, sleeping in it and eating all their livestock. Most of the livestock have been consumed, and the man says that they fear they will be next on the menu....
Don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but there is a book trilogy that takes place after the Minotaur Wars trilogy that focuses primarily on ogres in the Dragonlance settings
ogres are my favorite fantasy creature
Mine to they are underrated monster most people confuse them with trolls and giants
I love this podcast.
And i love you random citizen!
For reals though thank you!
@@Thedungeoncast And I love the Megamind reference. 😁
I was hoping there would be more about the Oni. I didn't know they were so different than normal Ogres. I thought they were like an evolution of an Ogre that was more attuned to magic or something. I always like the idea of an Oni leading a band of Ogres.
In some versions they're described as being a whole different species. They're based on Japanese folklore whereas typically ogres are more from European mythology
So glad for this episode especially with LotR Fellowship of the Ring line: “They have a Cave Troll..” scene where I always go “well actually that’s a DnD Ogre...” Is this why you combined their lore? Because physically/visually they’re so different! Except for stature and other aspects to u pointed out I hadn’t thought about!
Constant Hunger and Regenerationnmakes makes sense together, the body of a troll is just in an extreme overdrive
28:03 Now hear me out...
*Spider* Troll and *Centipede* Troll !!!
Have fun sleeping tonight.
Ayy new video loving the content guys glad I subscribed
Great episode guys!
"Have any questions about Ogre Magi?" "Nah. I'll look it up on wikipedia later..." O...kay.... Guess I'll have to do that, too. 😒
Right. Would have been way more interesting than the side chatter
Oh yea thanks for reminding me about tomb of foes, you guys have to do an episode on the gith, their so cool. Keep up the great content guys 😁
I played in a setting that featured ogres and trolls very prevalently as it took place in a world where there wasn't a whole lot of civilization, there used to be and the civilization that did exist was very advanced,it was similar in terms of technology to the united states in the 1940s,but it was all destroyed by the awakening of a tarasque and the ensuing conflict that it took to destroy it,which resulted in most of the civilized world being wiped out,I think the dm of this campaign had a very interesting take on giantkin and pseudo giants, most giantkin in this world don't follow the ordning, partly because most true giants have died out except for stone and hill giants, but also because the giantkin have been abandoned by Anam anyway,so they feel there's no need to follow the ordning of Anam isn't on their side.
The way he distinguished between ogres and trolls was very interesting,it was like they were two sides of the same coin, you have the ogres which had the intelligence of an average human but they lacked any sense of empathy or morality and were normally solitary creatures unless they had children or a partner, they pretty much all had some form of albinism and enjoyed eating bear meat the most, then there were the trolls which were only as intelligent as a bonobo but had a strong sense of empathy, they also had a moral code and traveled in packs, their skin was normally a yellowish brown and they enjoyed eating wolf meat the most, trolls turn to stone in the sunlight, ogres really enjoy the sun,I actually really enjoy this take on ogres and trolls,it makes them unique from each other but still connected in alot of ways...
So in theory someone could make dnd version of Doomsday, just expose a troll to vary ailments and have it evolve past it (though iirc the tarrasque is also kinda like that)
Very nice video
just imagine 3 ogre squating on the road and you riding up with your cart
Great episode. Btw you guys should do the oblex next.
The drop ogres of Cardola forest ambush attack by leaping out of trees and buttheading victims. Breaking the victims neck by falling assfirst atop the targets head.
Please do the Yugoloths, there is a striking lack of content on these friends on CZcams.
I will be fitting these guys in this summer.
The Dungeoncast I love your show. The back and forth between you two really helps unpack these concepts.
Ogres are myths in Tolkien's works. They are totally separate species. I believe it was mentioned with giants, and only saw it once.
Tokien used the word Ogre for things in his earlier drafts, but the ogres kinda got scrapped.
Slew One I think ogres are like what happens when a human breeds was a troll
Create a villain who has Dr Jekyl Mr Hyde situation but it’s troll blood he is using to mutate.
Omfg, this is absolutely genius, your idea is incredible!!!
@@void6292 I can’t even remember writing this 😂
It's my boys!
about ~ 11-1/2 min ... yeah. I'd say ogres are a weird in between. they're sortof something more than an animal and less than a person. they're right on that edge. depending on how you write your world of course.
Damn he predicted the Dragons of Autumn Twilight movie 10 years after it
Our trolls are kinda like Tolkien trolls and ogres kinda like the olog-hai from the shadow of war game. We even made friends with an Ogre some Orcs had enslaved, his name is Pudge and he had asthma before we saved a little pixie that can heal us
The trolls in DnD and Tolkien are based off Norse mythology
Very loosely. Most dnd trolls are fine with sunlight for instance
@@KS-PNW Right. But DnD Trolls actually look very like the long nosed Norse Trolls...much more so than Tolkien even
I am the one that made the ice troll and the magma ogre
Thanks.
Rock me asmodeus!
27:38 the dire troll reminds me of hollows from bleach and how the more powerful arrancar are made. the larger hollows that are actually hundreds of hollows combined start eating each other and eventually become far more powerful to the point one "soul" takes over and becomes their consciousness of that group, creating a intelligent and more human like creature that can gain magic swords similar to the zanpakto of the series heroes the soul reapers
I'm now picturing the extreme end of a dire troll that has become so powerful it becomes much more intelligent an refined, getting control of its regenerative ability to an extent. becoming a BBEG mastermind that has lesser dire trolls under its command
So ogres are basically giant tired 3 year olds
Oni is ogre in English😂👌
oni means ogre, demon, devil and troll, pretty much they are either these definitions
So wait I didn’t know trolls can become infused with elements. So if a Troll becomes a Fire Troll and Fire is its weakness the do you kill it? With water?
The fire troll idea is likely not possible due to the concept being based on the regeneration and fire cancelling out their regen ability. I just kinda started naming elements there.
But this is D&D so fuck it. Yes water would definitely be what i would homebrew as their weakness.
@@Thedungeoncast Fire Troll is a thing, and Fire and Acid actually help it. Water and Ice are its only weaknesses. Have fun running into one, because they are also smart.
Are Oni the part of the Ordening ?
I couldn't find anything specifically referring to Oni and The Ordning, but I see it playing out in one of 2 ways. 1) They are technically ogres and thus have a place at the very bottom of the ordning alongside their cousins. Or 2) They are likely considered so very Maug as to be not part of the ordning at all and they themselves would very likely reject the ordning out of hand (kinda like Firbolgs).
Bridge troll ate hags?
gama ray are magic immortal hulk
I wouldn’t say ogres are that dumb they’re half as smart as the average human, I think most animals are 2 intelligence
Do you guys have a discord server?
No we don't. We haven't had much time to learn what the site is about and definitely don't have the time available to moderate one. I hear it is forum like site no?
The Dungeoncast yeah it is basically you could make it another reward for your patreon (just subscribed btw) and only invite patrons to it. I'd be willing to help set one up with your agreement
That would be wonderful! Thanks for your sub and the support! Would you mind sending us an email so we can coordinate what we need to do to help set it up? :)
The Dungeoncast yes absolutely! Where would you like me to get your email? Messaging me on patreon would probably be the best I think my name is the same on there as it is here
makes a video about trolls and ogres...doesnt come prepared with the stats of said trolls and ogres and resorts to guessing :P
I did guess correctly at the very least lol
( Leave your comment in English )
Actually Goblins, Ogres, Monsters , Dragons, Aliens ET , Bigfoot ,Demons , UFO , Devils , Fairies , Ghosts, Mermaids etc are all Fallen Angels . But the human spirit exclusively belongs to the human - alive or dead tbh
What do ye say guys ?
The Discworld trolls seem to be a lot closer to the D&D Ogres as well, apart from being a silicone-based life form. czcams.com/video/FJIaTBB72CM/video.html
Oni makes a perfect Bridge Troll
Were is the new video.?
The Irda (Dragonlance ogres) are still smart but most ogres on Krynn are just as dumb as in FR
Oni should mean horned demon in japanese
Trolls and dire trolls of dnd reminds me of trolls based in the Warhammer series.
But I would like to imagine this for anyone.
A dire troll, a troll that grew from 9 feet to 11 feet tall. Maybe as a mutated right arm that is super ripped and bulky, full of muscle.
Maybe grew an arm out its back on the first arms shoulder plate.
Maybe both its original arms and grew a second pair of arms..
It now looks like a very ugly Machamp. Instead of a belt around its waist, its finger bones and limbs from its kills.
And everytime it eats something truly intelligent it becomes more smarter and smarter..
To the point where it not only begins to form its own sentience. But something evil.
Like WinterFang the Troll king from Warhammer. If you havent heard of it.. Look him up. He is an amazing idea for a troll and could be a late game boss.
Scenario: You and your group of battle hardened and seasoned adventuers. You hear tale of beast packs of strange monsterous beasts adorned in spikes and razor sharp maws with an insatiable hunger for flesh..
And that the King of Winters End is releasing bounties for each of them.
After spending weeks traveling to the north.. Occasionally stopping to chat with people fleeing from north. At first it was merchants and their wagons of cargo. Complaining about unsafe roads and how their caravan protectors refuse to go north. Nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary complaints.
But that is when the group comes upon a column of hundreds of peasants with wagons, pack animals of cows, bulls. Sheep and goats being herded, along with men, women and children carrying what possessions they can carry.
Talking to some of them, they claim that an early winter set in and killed most crops before they had a chance to grow.. how it snowed without end.. How large beasts of unimaginable sizes were prowling in the outskirts of villages.. preying upon anyone and anything that strayed too far away.
How merchant caravans would go missing with only the remains of blood snd gore at the presumed site where they were slaughtered.
Some even stating that they saw a large.. abominaton stood upon the mountain. Holding a giant stone hammer and with fanged teeth the size of a full grown horse. A single golden crown that shines blue in the light.. with five gleaming red eyes.
After the party arrives at Winters End.. the giant walled citadel. A massive snow storm was raging.. making visability nearly impossible. Entering the citadel.. there is no soldiers or watchmen at the gates. No activity in the city. Carts and boxes are strewn across the streets.. with nary any sounds except the roaring and howling of the wind.. traveling uphill to the keep.. eventually finding the gate and doors to be smashed down onto the ground.. drawing weapons and entering the keep..
A towering brown spackled and blue skinned figure.. adorned with boney protrusions. Sharp bones and apendages stick from its multiple arms.. three arms. The size of a giant oak three.
A large rounded belly with several dozen spears and swords imbedded into its gullet. Coated with brown patches of taut and gamey.. leatherly folds.
To its face.. is a large maw. Fangs the size of horses.. With one fang sticking directly from its bottom lip, with a golden crown adorned with bright and shining blue gems amongst its rimmed sides.
Its fangs stained red and painted yellow..
Above the fangs is a large flat nose that dangled from its head, reaching down towards its open maw.
And at its eyes.. its front eyes burst wide open. Shining a bright yellow with its pupils.. around its right eye are three smaller eyes, each starting at each member of the party.. with an unblinkjng gaze..
And.. next to it. Is a hammer made of obsiddan. Its head appears to have been part of a volcanic eruption or ripped from the ground of obsiddan itelf.. its shaft made of yellow bones.. small bones, large bones.. bones of chests and spines from presumably humans.. and skulls decorating its base.
The beasts lips curl into a fetid smile.. and reaches for the hamme with its double left arms.. as it begins to rise from the mass of.. gleaming items it was sitting upon. Revealing a large collection of jewelry.. golden cups, plates.. coins and coins and even more coins.. with a lance of golden brightness that begins to bathe the interiour of the room with a golden hue
Wow, Brian. Your grandpa was really racist towards Trolls, dude.
My god all the side chatter is annoying. Good info but so much unnecessary chatter.
