I like the idea of their lairs being twisted versions of what they once where. Extinct Volcanoes, Toxic Coves, Desiccated Swamps, Deserts glassed by constant necrotic lighting, and Haunted Forrest infested with blights.
The idea of a dracolich is both simple and brilliant.
This month is hands down my favorite batch of episodes. From the Banshee dying in the middle of town to the fireball rave party to the possessed Froghemoth corpse I have never laughed harder when listening to this show.
Good laughs in this one.
Gotta get it done as a Wyvern, damn, giant crocodile, nope, Firenewt, come on, Tortle? ends up scuttling away as one of those little anole lizards that gather by your porch light eating bugs in the summer.
Can i just say, thank you? I've learned so much of D&D lore through this channel, and as a DM this helped me set up the lore of my game for my players. Any time anyone asks where they could go to learn the lore i always point them this way.
So thanks, you've genuinely made my life a lil bit easier

I always give my drakoliches and even very old dragons spellcasting......and adjust lair and regional effects for the drakolich using the normal lich ones... works like a charm

yes! hahaha! I freaking called it! I knew we'd get dracoliches this week! I can predict the future! I've been waiting for this episode. I absolutely love dracoliches. they're just so badass. then again I'm already very partial to dragons and undead. heck my favorite deities in dnd currently are vecna and bahamut. though weirdly I don't care for tiamat. though I'm surprised will didn't bring up proto dracoliches since they are so important to the creation of a dracolich. also just wanna say this was one of the funniest videos I've seen from you two. my only complaint is that it wasn't longer. I need more dungeoncast lol. I know I've said all of this before but Brian I just have to say don't you dare ever let any of those people who occasionally comment something like "the guy on the right is annoying" get to you. because that bit about the stock market ruining a dracolich ritual was absolutely fucking hilarious! that joke alone proves that not only are you freaking funny but just plain fucking awesome man. there's just no other way of saying it but being that blunt about it. also will saying how one would be terrified at the froghemoth coming out of nowhere was also hilarious. I guess all I'm trying to say Is thank you both so much for doing this and giving us all good laughs. I know I make jokes by referring to will as the lord of knowledge and brian the Lord of laughter but in all honestly, I think your both very funny when you want to be and you both show that your legitimately intelligent when you want to. like for example, look back to the moradin video when brian was talking about the idea of dwarves being reincarnated drawing the parallel between dwarves and the earths mantle and stuff. I can't remember exactly what he said I need to rewatch that episode but I do remember thinking that analogy was genius. in fact it inspired me to create a character in my own fantasy world I write stories of for my friends. the basic idea is a dwarven avatar who gets reborn in times of great need to save the dwarven people. anyway I think I've kissed enough butt. lol time for a short rest. :)

as I said before dracoliches are just awesome.also forgot to mention above but it's also a thing that only evil dragons are capable of becoming dracoliches. it's also a little coincidental this video would come out now as I just recently slew the ur Dragon in dragons dogma for the first time, as that is essentially a dracolich. it was offline and took at least a couple hours but it was great.
as for dracolich regional effects I'll try to give some decent ideas.
ok so maybe the monsters lair could be filled with a toxic miasma.
everything that dies to close to the lair automatically gets raised as an undead death tyrant style.
maybe all undead who enter the monsters domain automatically fall under some kind of mind control of the dracolich.
if you had one living near a volcano maybe the lava could turn purple and black and also do necrotic damage. if it lives in a swamp maybe the water turns toxic. maybe rains becomes acid rain if it was a black Dragon in life. the toxic water could also apply to snow if it's a white Dragon.

forgot to say this as well but a really funny way for a group of players to prevent a dracolich from being created would be for the group's wizard to use a wish spell to create an ungodly amount of gold or something along those lines to crash the economy to make the ritual fail.

Hey guys! I just wanted to say hi and thank you for making this show! I have been listening for a week or so using this podcast to build a foundation of DND knowledge for my first upcoming DM adventure. I've been bouncing around for specific videos and I really appreciate how focused you guys are, and how organized all this is. Itd be so much harder to find this information if you guys didn't document it the way you do. I truly love the way you guys talk about this stuff. It's easy to understand and I like how well you guys connect other things to it and give imagery as well. It's fantastic. And I also want to say how surprising it is that you have kept the same theme song for the entire time you've recorded this show!
I wanted to ask, if I decide to shout you out for one reason or another, what places work and what places don't. I use Facebook mainly and sometimes Instagram, but I'm a bit more disconnected than most. And then just as well, if I want to ask you guys a very broad question, what's the best place to ask that? My initial thought was that the dracolich was similar to Pain from Naruto.
Kinda but instead of a person putting his soul or energy into corpses the dragon or spellcaster puts his soul or energy into a object.... and in D&D such an act is permanent in nature
@@andyh2783 I was thinking about the part where pain can exchange bodies when the corpses he uses as puppets are destroyed.

Mists that spawn wisps is one that I do with my black dracolich.
This is why I love the Dracolich from 4e it was so imposing and awe inspiring but also super scary to face becuas eit wasn't a template and it could do some serious damage
Becoming a dracolich is blaspheme unto IO Azgorath. Becoming dracolich changes the dragons fealty to Orcus, and is frowned on by IOAzgorath, tiamat, et al. Dragons are patient, but punishment is inevitable.

Do you think Black and Green dragons be more likely to become Dracoliches? The Black dragons seem like they try to avoid death at all costs and the Greens are the most scheming and magic sensitive. Or on the flipside, White, Blue, and Red seem the least likely. Whites are just too primal. Blues and Reds seem like they're too prideful to think that they could be better than what they currently are.
I'd say so, in my home brew the whole campaign is about stopping a powerful green dragon from becoming a Dracolich, killing or stopping his allies from providing it the resources needed for the ritual, pulling down his power base, gathering friends and allies of our own to kill him before can find new ways to gather the resources or escape to try again elsewhere, I even got a type of clock to count down the time we have and ever manger victory, I'd turn the clock back to we knew we had more time to stop him

Hello just started listening to all your guys stuff and this got me thinking with the mention of Eberron. There is a half dragon, half elf Lich and this got me thinking. Would she require bodies like a dracolich or souls like a regular Lich? Perhaps some combination of both?
So since my dragons are more like dragonflies so insectoid, how do i make a dracoliche? would it look normal since skeleton is carapace or would it be a goo dragon?
What if a dracolich cloned it's original body to use as extra bodies in case it dies? Would that work?

hey guys i dont know if ill get a response from this but im attempting to put a half- dragon- (High) Elf Sorcerer (mother was highborn elf and dad was gold dragon and my character's magic origin is draconic origin obviously) together but ive never really played DnD except with premade sheets or fudged rules to play simple campains and would really like to be able to make a character but dont really understand all the ins and outs of creating one except backstories. Any help and advice would be nice. btw love superquest saga and am spreading the word about it!!

Thanks for keeping the ad short I understand ppl gots to make $ but there's such a huge difference between a 30 second ad at the beginning of a 30 minute video and a 3 minute ad. 1.6% of the video or 10% of the video. 3 minute ad break I might as well turn the tv on and not have to click around.
