    I actually did some math on Gold Dragons, an Ancient Gold Dragon using the variant innate spell casting is capable of casting 9 8th level spell innately so a Gold Dragon can fuck you up, I'd argue that the Gold Dragon has the capacity to be the Strongest Monster in all of 5e.

    I have liked and commented! I continue to serve the beloved dungeoncast just as the year of the Dragon...oh wait, it's not continuing. this is a sad occasion for a great year ends. but no! I shant let grief overcome my heart! instead of mourning this loss I shall do as the dragons do when they celebrate the life of a passed Dragon and be exceedingly glad that this happened. I shall remain positive! and hey we'll still have the gems and miscellaneous dragon's to look forward to!
    thank you will and Brian for bringing us a fantastic series. I may have been late to this episode but I loved it nonetheless. now let's take a short rest shall we?
    hey everybody! it's paladin Dorian here once more to spread to word. the word of love!
    yes indeed, just remember when you face immeasurable darkness and innumerable threats while the weight of the world barrels down upon you, that my heart shall shine with the resplendense of a gold dragons scales and be with you always. now enough mushy stuff, this short rest ends. :)
    yeah personally while I like their current design I grew up reading my fathers dnd monster manual which depicted golds as serpentine bodied. so that's just how I picture them.
    also if I may make a suggestion, after superquest saga ends and if you look for a new campaign. what about homebrewing a campaign or one shot where you play as dragons? maybe brian could dm even so will could play as the ever glorious blue Dragon and act as long range artillery!
    have a good day all of you!

    The term "Wyrm" is old English for "Serpent" and was used to describe some Dragons because historically Dragons have been portrayed as Giant Serpents. Also in previous editions of D&D there were more stages of a Dragons life and the oldest of Dragons were called Wyrms and Great Wyrms.

    • @NamelessKing1597

    • @zionthedragon8866
      @zionthedragon8866 Před 4 lety +1

      No wyrm comes from worm, which comes from OLD NORSE word orm, which meant serpent, and historically, the word dragon, spelled with the letters D-R-A-G-O-N, was first used by old french to mean a serpentine lizard creature with wings and a breath weapon of sorts, and used it's tail to squeeze things to death. It was later when Christianity became prominent in england, and the fact the drew some words from old French, that ALL serpentine creatures, pagans, and such became the word dragon, because Christians had very little respect for alot things outside their religion, and as such, the word wyrm became synonymous with the word dragon, which lead to d&d using the word to describe dragon, and other cultures using wyrm and dragon inner exchangeable.
      Also, seen some editions call certain dragon in d&d stories, great wythla, just fyi. Can't remember where though.

      @@zionthedragon8866 the word Dragon comes from the ancient greek Drakon
      and the ancient greeks were pagan, then it evolved into the Latin word Dracon, still pagan until Emperor Constantine. Then it evolved into Dragon in old French then later into English. So it has less to do with christianity and more to do with the evolution of language through conquest, which is one of the most common ways it evolves. History is written by the victors, no culture respects the culture of those who it has conquered no culture came into existence without snuffing out another.

    One extremely passive way to defeat a villain is if the gold dragon banishes someone to the dreamrealm, the realm could act as a rehabilitation event. Like, make the villain live a good life, make them think they've lived an entirely different life and truly change their outlook on life. For fun maybe gold dragons could even train sages in the same way. You could live multiple lives if the dragon wishes it.

    Okay, so there are a lot of creatures that seem to be innately alignment locked. Is it possible for them to change that? Could a Red Dragon be good and a Gold evil? Somethings make sense; for instance, becoming a Lich is a fairly vile process and it makes sense that it would be pretty much exclusively evil or at least neutral characters that become one, but a baby dragon would be relatively blank slate save instinct.

    • @yarmch3686
      @yarmch3686 Před 2 lety +3

      Late but just to answer this…
      Baby dragons aren’t inherently blank slates. They’re born knowing who they are, who their parents are, and what they are. Even if they’ve never seen their parents before and we’re literally just born a few hours ago. Instinct is also a thing of course.
      But dragons are capable of changing alignment through careful or harmful teachings. It’s difficult, but can be done. A Gold dragon for example could be swayed into an evil mindset if you give it the idea that everything not them is evil, and a Red dragon could be swayed into a good mindset if you teach them the benefits of doing good deeds (money and praise that’s bestowed willingly.)
      They’re intelligent creatures who use their instincts and parental memories as a way to quickly adapt and grow into what they were meant to become. Give them these new conflicting ideas with proper reasonings to back them up, and you’ll probably be able to convince a wyrmling into following a different path.

      @@yarmch3686 Now I want to see a story of a "Good" (filled with semi-enlightened self interest) Red Dragin having to hunt down and kill a Gold Dragon that's gone down the "burn everything because the whole world is corrupt and evil" "Good" route. I can just see the arrogant Red Dragon that has learned the benefits of having a stable and happy kingdom under its rule going out to proactively kill a rampaging Gold Dragon before it can slaughter it's people, winning through malicious cunning and a greater knowledge of how to be effectively Evil.
