i am laughing to myself about how hilariously annoying I could create a Copper Dragon NPC.
Think about a Copper Dragon pissing off a red dragon who then starts rampaging among nearby towns...
And then he starts making the reds lair entrance smaller or just messing around in there relocating stuff 😄.
Or his own lair. A trap
that lets a giant artificial wet slimy claw slap pcs in the face leaving a scroll with "HA HA. You're it!" written on it...
That moment when you realize that the weirdly powerful NPC you're dealing with probably isn't a green, but a ticked-off copper.
Copper dragons are such great NPCs
By the way for those of you wondering why bards, people, go into the treasure hoard... Keep in mind it isn't so much "Oh you are just an object to me." No no, more like, "Friendship is the greatest treasure of all.... And treasure goes into my hoard."
It is actually even more beneficial for the bard then the copper dragon, and completely voluntary. The bard's chances of survival are brought up as close to 100% as you are going to get in such a crazy world, the dragon being by nature wise and experienced will help the bard level up, and help the bard travel more quickly from tavern to tavern to flirt with the opposite gender, and have help fighting monsters to then harvest for resources to sell to venders. The bard becomes the most powerful of all bards due to the gaining of XP while having a comfy warm shelter with a gracious host who will protect him and carve out a area for him with multiple beds to take home guests to.
And what does the copper dragon ask in return? Just for the bard to listen to the dragons jokes/riddles/stories/songs and to help them prank and in other ways entertain people.
Yeah, a smart bard will actually TRY to find a copper dragon.

One thing that would be cool in a campaign is if in some town near the dragon, the townsfolk were always laughing in fear of not laughing at the coppers joke when it polymorphs into a person

Anyway if you need help telling us apart its really quite simple. Look at the lower end of the tail.
For us copper dragons it looks normal. Because its for doing its job. Catching wind. More then 1 kind of wind by the way.
With brass dragons, it looks like they been mating with a nest full of porcupines scorpions and lobsters at the same time.

the year of the Dragon continues just as I continue to serve the dungeoncast! I'm surprised you didn't mention that copper dragons will sometimes pin people down and lay on them forcing them to stay and listen to them. actually in all fairness that might be brass dragons I'm thinking of, pretty sure it's copper but could be wrong. oh well if it is brass now you know for when you get around to the brass episode. anyway hope everyone who reads this has a nice day. :)

You guys should do a cast on the eusocial species in the DnD verse. Things like the Myconids, Formians, Abiel that kind of stuff. I've always found those types of societies interesting and it would be interesting i think to examine the differences between the groups.

How come I never hear of crossbreed dragons? I'm sure there was a brass who got the hots for a copper at some point.
jared floyd because dragons are Prideful almost (completely in the case of chromatics) to the point of Narcissism. The traits they find most attractive are the ones they have themselves so they’re most attracted to their own breed. If they could breed with their reflection they would.

I love dragons but got bored of reptillian ones. so i asked my players if they prefered insectoid like dragonflies, mammalian like massive bats or avian like the archeopterix. they chose insectoid, so all dragons are more like massive dragonflies and so are he dragonborn. i was never a fan of metallic dragons so in my setting i have 9 colors of chromatic dragons. they aren inherenly evil but dragons are a creation of the chaotic primordials in contrast to the Giants who were made by order
