Australia is ready for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Australia has been participating in Eurovision ever since 2015 when EBU formally invited the Australian broadcaster SBS to participate for its cultural ties with Europe as well as to celebrate Eurovision's 60 years anniversary.
Since then, the country has always been a part of the lineup and will continue to do so, at least, in 2024. This year with the duo Electric Fields that has just been announced as the Australian representative for the contest to be held in Sweden. Electric Fields was internally selected by SBS.
Their song "One Milkali (One Blood)" is written by the duo themselves and has just been released.

Hello, I am from Australia. I am a First Nation's Gamillaroi woman. Yes Electric Fields are representing Australia. Zachariah Fielding is a great musician, with Michael Ross. We are so proud to be in Eurovision. And Hell Europe and the Middle East - stop ripping yourselves apart because of an idea of borders, race and ethnicity. Stop killing.

I've been really loving the song, the traditional elements mixed with a little bit of that house element fits so well. I do think the MV is a little off-putting with the awkward eye contact and doesn't quite match the song (also being shirtless doesn't help), and it's probably why the song hasn't gotten the greatest reception yet. I'm so looking forward to seeing this live and I really hope they bring out more traditional elements on stage. We know they have the stage presence so I'm not writing Australia out of qualifying this year, but they're in the tough semi so a good performance is crucial.

I like the song but I think it can be reworked into something PHENOMENAL! A punchier, bouncier beat and really emphasising the didgeridoo would be amazing. Remember Pet Shop Boys 'Go West' Mings Gone West 1st & 2nd Movement (that is the name of the remix)? The second half of that nine minute track had so many nature sounds in it. Imagine if this song also featured sounds native only to the Australian outback and bush! This has the potential to be absolutely unique and win an entire fan base across Europe and the world. But it needs some thoughtful re-production!

First of all, it’s pretty cool that these guys are being given a second shot at Eurovision. However, it feels a bit uninspired to just pick someone from the previous NFs and just send them. Why not invite them to a new NF and get some fresh faces in, some fresh talent?! Secondly, the song itself is okay but not the best Electric Fields have ever recorded. There’s a lack of ethnic sounds this time but it’s more accessible to the general public. I have a feeling this will struggle to make an impact in the semi final of death, unless Australia can produce a unique but memorable staging. People won’t understand what is going on, unless it’s explained. Finally, the music video is BASIC. A lyric video? Really? If this had been Rim Tim Tagi Dim, it would have been quirky and memorable but it’s kind of cringe. Give us a REAL music video if you want us to be hyped about your entry this year. Mike drop!

If people in Europe are against us being in Eurovision, we would respect that decision but would still continue to watch the show passionately as always.
