    best tutorial i ever came across. not just showing how to make the paint, really teaching the physics behind it. thank you very very much. you are a life, time saver!

    I recommend setting it up with real flakes so you have it for closeups, and just disconnect the mess for other shots. Dielectric could use specular tint, due coat internal reflections.
    Both for regular and metallic paint, I darken the main result toward the edge using a mix shader with nothing to simulate coat absorption (some just darken the main albedo).
    Then I fresnel mix in the topcoat(s). These are so smooth I wouldn't bother with any PBR roughness -> fresnel stuff. Two glossys for topcoat is good enough for faking GTX 1.
    It's more expensive, and most people probably don't notice or care. Setup depends on how many topcoats you apply for a good result on a real paint job. Ask a painter.

      Very interesting! Good point about the specular tint!

      Damian Mathew I certainly did! I opted for the standard car paint for my first car render. It’s an old car (BMW e30) so it works great for it. If you’re interested to see it on Instagram - wade_bekker_design 😃

    I know u won't
    May i know that will you do tutorials even in other parts of blender like vfx, compositing, etc. I am curious 😄 to know, just because i like your way of explaining and i want to learn like people like u

    Awesome explanations. I'm wondering just about how different is a Pearl paint type over these ones. Would love to see that kind also covered. Once in a time I had a real life VW Polo in Royal Blue color with Pearl clear coat and it was beautiful.

      Isn't that how the front facing paints are set up that he shows? Irridescent colours have that same effect I think.

    uhh....... it's not actually called "Flip Flop" car paint -- it's called Iridescent or pearlescent (by tuners, car guys, etc.) 😁😁

  • @danielbrylka2228
    @danielbrylka2228 Před rokem +1

    Hi, you say in the beginning, that a standard car paint can be emulated only with the base color and setting the roughness down. But nearly every car paint has a clear coat. So should't you use always a clear coat in the principled shader?

    • @DamianMathew
      @DamianMathew  Před 3 lety

      Matt usually is a carpaint with no or a rough clearcoat. Like Matt carbon, Matt metallic like on an AMG or classic Uni Matt or even a Matt wrap. All pretty much based on the 3 basic carpaints

    There are no bumps in car paints.....Paints are very smooth, not bumpy.....You are plugging the noise to the wrong node dude.....Maybe what you want is a normal map node, for example...Anyway, i m not a blender expert, but to use a bump node to simulate flakes does not make sense...Sorry ;)...thanks for the video.
    Edit: Ah!...I see you used normal maps after....good boy ;)
