      For those who just appreciate best clear and full body sound, and the best noise canceling, do you think xm3 or xm4? Cus the xm4 are way over my budget. But I prefer having the best nc headphones, then to buy another ones in a few years, because I didn't buy the best ones for my needs. It sounds like, the XM3 with some tweaks on the app, can improve the sound quality, becoming similar to the xm4. Do you have the same opinion? Need your help deciding which ones I should purchase. Excellent review. Know by test! I bought the M3 version last month, and your review, (did I mention it is FANTASTIC), is really helping me decide if I want to return them and go with the the M4 which will be about $80 more expense for me. You focused on all the meaningful performance features to me, (voice clarity when making calls, noise canceling, and blue tooth connectivity). The noise canceling on the M4s sounds marginally better but if this was the only enhancement it wouldn't be worth the extra expense over the ANC offered by the M3s. Also, the ability to connect to 2 devices simultaneously sounds really handy but I wouldn't pay $80 more for this feature only. The better call quality though, is the thing that is really swaying me to get the M4s, and with your review I can see for myself just how much better the experience will be. Being at home now, I use them to make all my work calls, so I think having the the enhanced call quality and also those other enhancements, though not galaxies better, will be worth the extra expense of the M4s. Keep up the good work, and I will subscribe.

    Multi-point pairing alone for many will make it worth it the upgrade
    .
    In living practice the marginal differences in sound quality, ANC performance isnt a big deal, so long as it works well.
    Folks like myself dont exclusively use these kinds of headphones for listening, we also rely on them to pair with our smartphones/PC's/Tablets for talk... In fact, talk is a MAJOR feature and need, equal to audio/media consumption.
    I found that because you couldn't pair the XM3's with a PC, or with two devices at once, and.. lets be honest-- the microphone performance was abysmal up until recent firmware upgrades, the headphones I end up taking to work every day are the Jabra 85's.
    They are Paired to my PC and my smartphone. Fantastic call quality, more than great performance for music and media consumption that one does without pro-level scrutiny through our everyday goings about.. Meaning: we generally care about what is the best of the best of the best when we are watching reviews or are spec junkies.. but in practice the next or third or fourth best thing, if it does all we need, and does it consistently well is more than good enough even tho we may not have the crown of bragging rights amongst our nerd cohorts.
    Although I find the XM3's audio 'sharpness' and 'cleanness' "better" than the Jabra's, it isn't so much better that I'd really notice unless I am performing a spec comparison for the reasons of ranking one over the other.. In authentic life its not given a second thought.
    The intro of the XM4's I think will make the performance and quality of the sound from this Sony offering even more appealing.. You didnt go into it much other than to mention it, but the multi-point connectivity for me was the HUGE feature missing. That and the lack of being able to hold a clear phone conversation pushed me to another product and relegated my XM3's to occasional use for purely the single activity of listening to content on the big iPad that never leaves the house.
    Now I have to think and try convincing myself if the upgrades are convincing enough to pony up for the new model. For me this is going to be a "want" rather than "need" scenario as I have a set that does those necessary extras that the XM3's were missing..

    My conclusion: get the XM3 over the XM4.
    1.) They're >100 bucks cheaper In most countries
    2.) XM4 abandon aptX and aptx HD, meaning the XM4 are a downgrade if used mainly with PC (SBC instead of aptX previously) or MAC (AAC instead of aptX previously).
    3.) Whether you're a PC or MAC user, the audio delay when watching videos will be higher. Even the very first ANC Headphones of product line (MDR-1000X) had aptX and there for less latency.
    4.) LDAC codec seems good but focussed on music mostly. There are no specs known about actual latency and I'm assuming it's because all aptX variants (aptX, aptX HD and aptX Low Latency) will outperform it.
    5.) No LDAC support on PC/MAC and apparently, no usb LDAC transmitters are planned, either. If you want real high-res audio when working on your PC/MAC, you'll have to plug the headphones in which defeats the purpose of wireless headphones in the first place.

    Interesting. I'm still going to buy xm3 since they're 100€ cheaper in my country. They're a big improvement from the 80€ headphones I currently use. xm3 will be good enough for my needs. I just want to enjoy music and movies in full glory.

    Listening on XM3. Had mine for almost 2 years and i can't say i see any point of buying the XM4's over the XM3. Here in Norway the XM3 are 37% cheaper than the XM4 and the few insignificant improvements aren't even slightly worth it. From what i can tell they haven't even fixed the much complained about gimmick touch panel. I don't see how they have listened to the community and don't really agree with this video. It's otherwise a good comparison video though. Buy the XM3 instead.

      I also feel that after xm4 came out xm3 is actually a more reasonable choice. In US, xm3 is now 100 bucks cheaper than xm4, which is about 29% cheaper. Don’t think the improvement can beat the 30% off discount lol

    I don't think the new, lowered prices of the XM3 justify buying the XM4. AptX and AptX HD support not being available is really going to be a problem, and the mic and NC aren't THAT much better to justify paying almost 50% more. Fantastic video, by the way.

    I've had my xm3 for a year now and they are still like new even though I traveled alot. I used to turn them on without music to sleep on trips. Great headphones 🎧 and I'm sure the xm4 are good too but not good enough to replace my xm3

  • @onielmelendez4315
    @onielmelendez4315 Před 3 lety +26

    Great content as always, man! ❤
    I've had my xm3 for a while now, and have even bought several BT adaptors (with aptx and aptx LL) for my nintendo switch, which made gaming portably a great pleasure without the lag, and huge sound. The xm4 removal of aptx codecs is a "no go" for me 😔 as I dont care much about mic quality and multi point pairing. But, to each his own, right?
    If in the near future, LDAC becomes a standard codec in most devices like TVs, phones (including iphones), bt adaptors, PCs/Mac, etc... I'll probably snag an xm4 as a backup to the probably still 'relevant' xm3s.
    LDAC from a note 10+ = great sounding music. But tbh, AAC from the 11 pro max is not that bad either 😉

    • @RPGWiZaRD
      @RPGWiZaRD Před 3 lety +1

      Same, except for PC use. I have bought a high quality BT transmitter/reciever with for example aptX-LL support to go for example with my Aiwa ARC-1 BT headphones (fantastic pretty overlooked headphones for sound quality for the price) which also supports aptX-LL and the lag is pretty much non-existant (well to the point you won't notice anyway) for whatever I do (besides the amazing connection stability, can literally walk all around my house without dropping connection). aptX-LL mode is actually still LOWER in latency than even LDAC although LDAC obviously has higher bandwidth (theoretically sounds cleaner although in a blindtest I still think it would probably be hard to spot the difference for sure). I do own an Audeze Mobious headset for instance with LDAC support (doesn't either support aptX). My point here is from a latency point of view dropping aptX support (especially aptx-LL mode) when it actually performs better when latency is critical (gaming for instance) is a bit of a shame.
      Although it just seems Sony which developed the LDAC mode doesn't simply support aptX, it's always either or, probably a marketing choice of theirs which still I find annoying, especially as they cannot even allow 3rd parties to develop BT transmitter/recievers (well tbh I didn't search for a little while now so perhaps the situation has changed) while aptX ones are all over the place on amazon and the like, since the lag difference between LDAC and aptX-LL isn't as night and day as comparing the other older formats (I think something like 35~40 vs 70~80 ms or thereabouts in best case scenarios, while still huge, not game breaking I'd say) it just sucks we cannot even have the option to easily add universal LDAC connectivity as it's not only Android phones which needs to work with LDAC. As long as they cannot even allow that, it will always suck that LDAC enabled BT chips makes the aptX support not exist.

      I'm new about codex stuff. Could you please explain me how does this lack of aptx or aptxhd affect the performance of the XM4's?

    • @noire1991
      @noire1991 Před 3 lety

      Cesar Martinez apt x is more of a low latency while keeping the quality of the music or movie you are listening to. The lack of it might show some lag in some apps. And for gaming forget it. It is absolutely necessary otherwise you have to use a wire for no lag.
