We did a BLIND test comparing the new Sony WH-1000XM4 vs the older Sony WH-1000XM3. We did as thorough of a test as possible, testing multiple genres of music, white noise levels, noise cancelling, fit and feel, and gestures. After choosing their overall pick, each tester got a spec sheet detailing the differences in specs between the 2 headphones. Which ones did each pick? Check it out!

Great vid BTW. You need to try those Sony's with the cable and high Def sound ie turn up your PC's sound settings to highest studio res and download a few flac songs and see just how hifi both these are without nc turned on and real quality going in them.

Idk if you maybe need to reconsider the channel name or what... but thanks for confirming my recent buy of the XM3s was totally worth! Shoutout to Yong and his love for cheaper headphones, I tried listening to some music from the early 00s on XM3s and they just don't hit the same as like the iPod earbuds haha

@@justinfry5809 Not sure as I'm a fatass. However, I would assume that they would be excellent. The noise cancelling is fantastic, and they stay very comfortable for a long time.

Great blind test! Current XM3s. Thought about AirPodMax or XM4s. May pass on either and keep rockin XM3s.

The XM4 has a bump around the mid-treble region that makes the voice more forward, elevated, and muddy sounding. Over exaggerated mid-trouble.
I think the difference is, that on MX3 when you select LDAC, the EQ doesn't work, but the EQ still works on XM4 on LDAC. That makes a huge difference
Which would be better for Android?
one big drawback is the xm3 has VPT for home surround replacement in apartments. To this day both the xm4 and xm5 do not have this.
@@NubbinzGaming I don't like surround vpt oj xm3. It sounds weird to do artificial surround sound on a stereo headphone.

It's cool that they blind folded them, but it was silly for them to tell them 'number 1' or number 2. Because that can easily introduce confirmation bias. So if number 1 sounded the best for the first test, they might expect number 1 to sound better on the next song. They should have kept it completely blind. You can tell because they kept asking 'is this number 1? Or number 2?' they're trying to get their thoughts straight. Instead of just discerning which sounds better.
Yong here. Valid point. We mention number 1 or 2 for the viewer's sake or else you would just hear us say this is better or that is better the entire video and everyone including us would be confused 😂

The best sound without EQ is XM4 no doubt. But, if you compare XM3 with EQ "Surround" feature, XM3 will be the winner actually.
Great video, I'm going with the XM3. FYI, I would work on your mic volume, either lower the music or raise the volume on the mics. I'm listening on headphones and the music is too loud compared to your voices (IMO).

@@Aremdaunnabi you get the ear detection and when someone talks it mutes it so you can hear them better. Not sure if that's worth the extra cost? But for me it wasn't enough. Sound quality on the xm3 ate already superior and ANC is the best. For something that incremental and it looks exactly the same I'd pass.

i'm wondering... as the M3 doesnt have a option to connect to different devices at the same time, can you still connect to both an ipad and android phone and switch easily ?
i assume the simultanious option only means you can have sound coming in form bot devices at the same time ?

Great question. Dan here - So switching is done easily, as in it's really clear and easy to do, but it's not fast. You have to either turn off the headphone and turn it back on in pairing mode and go into the device you want to pair to and pair that way or you have to manually disconnect the XM3 in the settings of the previous device and go into the settings menu and connect to the headphones. It's easy, but takes a good chunk of time. Multi pairing does not mean sound comes out from both devices - then you'd have a crazy garbled mess of audio! It means that your headphones can detect which device is playing audio and will auto switch to that device. For example, if you've got it paired to your laptop, but then your phone starts ringing, it'll pause playing sound from your laptop and play your phones ringtone. It's really quite awesome! Hope this helps!!

Dan here again - I use mine to edit videos and I edited this and all the videos you see on my other channel, Ahnestly. It's fine. Theres an occasional latency slip, but it's really not bad.

New subscriber as totally entertaining great folk. I have 1000x2 (my profile pic lol) and getting a delivery today of 1000x4 for £207. I didn't get gen 5 as i not into design and expense. Im always 18 months behind because i dont buy at new price and at an age where i not duped to new release price and life pressure 😂
I’ve tried both xm3 and xm4, the bass on xm3 is stronger and more physical and more enjoyable when watching CZcams or movies, I wish Sony can add more bass to xm4 via firmware update 🙂

Dave here. Although we didn't review techno, we did review EDM, and I would say based on the similarities between those two genres, I'd personally go with the xm3. The bottom end was thicker and the kicks hit a little harder which is what I'm looking for in this type of genre

Charles here. Value is very subjective which you can tell in this video where we were split on the results. I think it depends on who you ask but personally I would lean towards the XM4.
Are the xm4 worth buying as an upgrade to the xm2? The xm4 are on sale for $278 rn
Charles here... I think it's definitely worth the upgrade. We didn't do a direct comparison between the XM2s and XM4s but given the improvement from the 3s to the 4s, I'm sure it will be a definite upgrade from the 2s.
