The noise cancelling on the Sony is way better, but I much prefer the sound quality of the Momentums.
Bought Momentum 3 yesterday. Feeling happy now. No games or phone calls. Only music. They sound heavenly!

Yes the sound quality is amazing but do yourself a favor never use them for phone calls or audio calls in general. You'll end up becoming very frustrated like I was and moving on to the XM4
Edgar, I think it’s, at least, irrational to bye a super-duper headphones for phone calls))) Can’t remember the last time I had a problem with phones calls😀 The main function is playback music. And Momentum 3 is unbeatable in it so far.

I have another question for you : if I were to connect either or these headphones to my pc using an audio cable would there still be 100+ ms of lag between a gunshot on computer and the noise passing to the headphones? I was watching a lot of "JimsReviewRoom" before, and he was also thorough testing call quality etc and doing real comparisons, so I feel that you have taken over his legacy :-) If/when the AirPods Studio (over-ear) come out I would love to see you compare them to other high profile headphones.

Thank you for such a thorough going review - Superb. The comfort thing - Having had a set of Senheiser's for quite some years - I find the leather padding very comfortable when wearing them for long periods - They are a lot less sweaty. So on hot days that would be my preference. The thing you didn't check. I have had connectivity issues with Sennheiser in the past. For some weird reason they connect well to Apple and Android, but don't connect at all with a PC Bluetooth Dongle. I spoke to Sennheiser and they said. oh, yes they are not designed to connect to PC's?!!! Even their own Bluetooth dongle needed cajoling to connect every time.

I'm currently in a limbo with M3 and I bought the XM4. I loved the sound stage of the M3 but the call quality is unbelievable unbearable. I've heard nothing but negative feedback from people when I call them via any device. Exactly, amazing soundstage. Well, if sound quality when listening to music is less important then go for the XM3 or XM4, also I believe XM4 is lacking aptx support. In some countries the XM4 is way more expensive than the M3 though. Did you upgrade the firwmware in the M3 before returning it? Personally I rank the quality when listening to music really high thus making this decision more difficult. I am fully aware of that XM3 and XM4 have better battery time and better noise-cancelling than the M3.
@@MrMakatech Sadly even after the firmware update, it didn't make call quality any better. I've yet to receive my XM4 but once I get them I can truly compare call quality.

Noise cancellation is definitely better on xm4 the microphone sounds higher quality on xm4 able to distinguish your voice clearly but I imagine the m3 sound quality sounding better bass extension usually better in the lower notes.

No no no! There are no universal trucks. There are no universal headphones. N700 is great in terms of longevity. M4 is made from worser plastic and will make awful sound after several months of usage

Thank you so much! You have made the only comparison out there yet. But one thing is wrong: the XM4 (379€) are more expensive than the M3 (348€).
The weight is not "having a small influence on how comfortable it is". It having HUGE influence for me. I don't know bloody how, but 5+ hours in Momentum 3 and my headache starts. Always. Otherwise it's amazing comfortable and clean sounded headphones. So every gram counts! Also, official Sony's presentation said that XM4 have some new special ear pads that evenly distributes a pressure on the head, so it tires less. Plus this comparison made me feel like meme "shut up and take my money".
Maybe the clamp force is what's giving you a headache. Try putting it on a box to stretch it out a bit.
@@fortyinch not sure that too strong clamp force is the issue with Momentum 3, since it's already comparatively low. But thanks for the tip! Will keep that in mind if XM4 turns out not perfect enough for me :)

@@fortyinch I'd say, the fact that I spend my hard-earned money on those devices is absence of luck. Im just trying to find a really good and comfortable wireless ANC headphones. And everything on the market right now are just not good enough for me. For example, I were deciding between Momentum 3 and B&W PX7. Actually I love PX7 quite bit more. But its clamp force... phew! I felt like my head is some coconut under a train. P.S. Also Im not having XM4 yet. They are still not yet available on the market in my region. Does anyone in the world are able to just buy and have them in the hands right now?

I am coming from years of experience with all types of hifi and Bluetooth headphones like sennheiser hd800s, focal utopia,...
Xm4 is a comple disappointment. Everything is is fine accept its sound. The base is so sloppy and the details are not there. You only feel the pressure due to noise cancelation.
Sony will never learn how to make high quality sounding equipments and everyday they gives us lactures about HD music. Sony need to learn from sennheiser how to make a good sounding headphones and sennheiser needs to learn from Sony a little more about the electronics and software.

Good video. However, no mention that the M3 has Tile functionality built in, for example, when comparing feature sets. I'd also be interested to know what the transparency/talk through mode is like on the XM4s compared to the M3s. One of the biggest advantages of the M3s, for me as an owner, is the ability to talk on the headphones with transparency mode engaged, if wanted. This makes chatting while out on a walk excellent as the sense of one's own voice being muffled by wearing headphones disappears. Would be nice to know how the XM4's compare. It would also be good to know how they both compare in dealing with wind noise, both in terms of ANC and call quality. I agree with you that the XM4s are likely to have more mass appeal. Looks are subjective too - I'm a big fan of the M3s as they look distinctive and the Sony design really has not changed much over the years, but, again, they are less likely to polarise opinion. Enjoy ýour videos a lot.
Most reviewers think M3 is sounding slightly better when listening to music. It depends on how you weight the different categories I guess? Sony and Bose have better noise cancelling and better battery time, less weight. I feel XM4 is still overprized, probably really good, yes, but overprized. I got a much better price for M3.
Waiting to see the comparison with the Bose NC700s vs the Sony XM4. On the fence now with the release of XM4 and would love to see/hear your comparisons.

Currently im using using galaxy buds+ or beats Pro airbuds for business calls, is this going to be any better for such calls? I stopped myself from buying xm3s because of the bad phone quality

A great thorough video as usual. I am sure you'll get a lot of subscribers in future. I am from India. And sony service is horrible in here.I had an XM3,it was priced at 400 usd in India and I have encountered cracking noise after 3 months. I used slapping by seeing ur video it was fixed but after 2 days the problem reappeared. Sony denied a replacement saying it is normal in anc headphones...previously I had Bose qc25..so I knew they were lying...It was so irritating I stopped using them and suddenly it stops working after 6 mnths. And Sony India denied a replacement saying there was moisture inside headphone. And it is a common problem.. You can check it in Amazon India Customer review...previously I had 2 headphones from Sony nd they were broken within 1.5 hours. Still I dare to buy a sony by seeing the great reviews. But not again I'll fooled by their lucrative features. They even doesn't ans on emails. Durability is the biggest issue maybe in India..I don't know.. Rather I would prefer sennheiser with 2 yrs warranty and greater durability and service...
Hey humble brother appreciate the videos and all the information provided this video especially was one that I was interested in since the price for the momentum three is currently at $350 so we will see. May I make a small suggestion on future videos plese ... Could the could the parts where you compare the two sound qualities be woist instead of the text on the screen because it could really help som who consume your content by listening vs watching the screen maybe you can say some short-term phrase like XM4 and then you hear the sound test then you hear your sound bite of m3 and then you hear the soundbite so that way you know what you are listening to rather than seeing the text on the screen which you may have missed if you weren't paying attention closely to watching the video itself and it could also help the visually impaired community to better understand the comparison as well anyway you did an excellent job with all three videos and I hope you like the sound quality of the XM4 and maybe we'll see if we get a momentum for anytime soon and then that will make us want to buy those instead haha anyway again I appreciate your videos stay safe and we all shall remain humble

I’ve had the xm4’s for almost a year,. I wear glasses and would notice after having them on for a couple of hours the top of my ears would start to ache, something I didn’t experience with my previous pair of Bose. Also I knocked my Sony’s off my bed and the right cuff broke right where it rotates.

you didn't do the lag test indicating what setting it was on. iPhone we know is AAC but with android, did you have it SBC, AptX? AptXHD? LDAC? or AptxLL? each will produce slightly different results and sound quality.

@E. O. It's one of the marketed features. They added a 5th mic on the XM4 over the 4 on the XM3. All the reviews say it's better, but I'd like to hear it compared to 700, which I know have good mic quality.

E. O. : BOSE has quality AND quantity.... so I guess they still win. I’m speaking for the voice pickup and ambient noise pass-through only, though. Sony probably has the edge on sound quality, since BOSE has a stick up their arse about not letting anyone tune the audio to their liking
Any fatigue? How long are you able to wear this without the top of your head hurting? I couldnt wear the xm3 for more than an hour.

XM4 just has a better look IMO. Not a fan of how the Senhieser tried to bring back that old classic look.

Aron... I need a headset for my zoom classes. I have seen all your videos. I bought xm4 but it looked like a piece of plastic! So I returned it. Then I saw M3 phone quality and looks pretty good to me, and also looks like M3 are better made. But many other tech reviewers don’t have the same results as you for M3 phone quality. So now I am scared. What can you recommend me?
If you wanted something for zoom and calls, then Bose QC 35 or NC 700 would have been much better. Or even Jabra earbuds or headphones. Which one did you end up buying?

Hey! I'd love to see a comparison of the XM4 vs Bose QC 35 v1/v2.
I have the QC 35 v1 and am strongly considering upgrading.
If you're looking at Bose, the NC700 is their newest, most advanced noise cancelling headphones.
Tried both on yesterday in shop.
The xm4s felt super cheap and tacky. Ear cups didn't seal around my ears. Swivel is far too loose.
The m3s felt great. Full seal, comfortable, didn't feel that heavy(but, I didn't wear them longer than 30min).
Sony's weren't working, but got to listen to the sound in the sennheiser's, and loved it.
Also, having physical buttons is a massive plus to me.
I have touch at the moment and keep accidentally activating it.
Oh, not sure if the Sony's have it, but absolutely loved the proximity sensor that automatically paused the sound source when you take the sennheiser's off.
The problem is that people think the xm4 sound muddy and cheap with the default sound but when change the settings on the app then it sounds the best

I was really looking forward to get the momentum, but now I see they have rubber buttons instead of some hard material IDK, it is breaking the deal for me as with time and usage rubber degrades and fall apart and I think at this price point rubber buttons should not be used, it would have been better to use touch controls instead

Totally know what you mean in your sound quality comparison with the momentum sounding laid back. Feels like music is slowed down on the original version, sad to hear it's continued that way. Otherwise they are silky smooth.

I just bought a used pair of sennheiser momentum 3 headphones and I like them a lot but my Bluetooth randomly cuts out for a few seconds (already disabled the auto stop) its really annoying and happens even if I'm right next to my Bluetooth transmitter. Don't really feel like using wired since it would be a cord running across my room been there done that and didn't like it
