  • I meet so many people online and in person who are afraid to start making tactics on Football Manager, but it’s perhaps the most challenging and rewarding part of the game. If you manage a club, the tactic is your magnum opus, your masterpiece to get the best out of your players. This video will help you get started.

    If you're a beginner to FM tactics building, I suggest a basic 4-4-2 with minimum instructions that aim to keep the ball and work it into the box! Regroup when you lose the ball and counter when you win it back. Pass into space, high line and press, stay on your feet! Simple!
    I am a sucker for 4-4-2 and I blame that on me being nearly 60-years old, as that was the default tactic when I grew up and played the game. So pick a tactic you've played in!

    • @Patrik38cz
      @Patrik38cz Před 20 dny +1

      I didn't use 4-4-2 since like 2012. But I see your point. I remember the that the diamond 4-4-2 (or some resemblance of it) was the way to go. Like Arsenal or my Czech Rep in the golden era around the Euro 2004. Aaah... the memories 🤩😆

      @philipolujuyitan2248 Před 20 dny

      It's best to do a mid block or low block, and allow your players to decide whether to stay on feet or get stuck in
      With this you'll be strong defensively and dangerous while attacking

    • @burner8959
      @burner8959 Před 20 dny

      @@Patrik38cz I mostly use a 4-4-2 narrow diamond. I may switch it to a 5-3-2 if I want to be more defensive. I basically have been using is since FM21 (when I started playing) partly because my local team uses it, and partly because I hate wingers (more like I don't use them properly). I've found that FM24 has gotten how I want my 4-4-2 diamond to work done better, than other FM's I've played prior. My #10 at the tip of the diamond has 20 goals so far this season (6'3" with great jumping reach and heading as a SS) and both of my starting strikers are in double digits.

    • @neilproctor5163
      @neilproctor5163 Před 20 dny

      @@philipolujuyitan2248 My 4-4-2 tactics tells my team to get behind the ball and quickly press as high up the pitch as possible (before the opposition can play it forward). It doesn't work all the time, but I tend to do rags to riches saves and it's great in the lower leagues and I get good results with a constantly changing semi-pro squad (I'm currently SC Thamesmead in a new level 10 save). It's good in cup games too.

    I just try to make a compromise between what is possible to do and what isn't possible to do with a certain irl tactic. Take Inzaghi's Inter for example: it's impossible to fully recreate their fluid tactics, like for example making mezzalas or midfielders in general come back to the defense line with the cbs moving up to midfield and all those fluid movements between players. However, I tried to focus more on the player's movements in general when certain players are in certain spaces (for example the wide cbs attacking the half spaces or the deep-lying striker dropping into midfield) and I kid you not it is the best tactic I've ever created (and the most close to the irl one too). You won't ever be able to fully recreate any irl tactic because an engine won't ever support all these kinds of inputs at the same time: therefore, at least for me, you should be focusing on which movements players have to do when they are in certain positions of the pitch. At least, that is how it worked for me.

    • @n3kuzya
      @n3kuzya Před 19 dny

      @@nigelbhebhe2805 it's difficult to talk about it without actually showing some goals the team has scored, but it's fair to say I scored some beautiful goals in which many movements of the Inter team were actually done almost as perfect as irl (like I got a goal in which Dimarco had the ball, then Bastoni attacked the half space dragging a defender, Mkhytarian dropped into the space vacated, played a first pass into Bastoni who was free in the half space who then made a cut-back for Thuram: this is a common set of movements in Inzaghi's Inter, but very difficult to actually replicate). I also got some impressive results like a 7-0 victory against Lazio, a 7-3 victory against Cagliari (2 of the 3 goals were unfortunately scored by the common "high line" bug: that is when the opponent's gk just throw an high ball at the striker and all your defenders practically just don't get it without any reason) and a 8-0 victory against Genoa. The x/g in some games were really extraordinary: for example I got like 4.5x/g against Lazio and also a 6x/g game against Genoa. But it's fair to say I did never get a game in which there was less than 1.5x/g at least. Possession was goated (like 64/65% and just because some teams in the serie A actually have an insanely high possession rate like Lazio and Monza), did almost 18/19 shots per game (which I think is a lot for serie A standards) and got like 4/5 shots per game. But again, I tried it with Inter, so it may be a bit worse with worse teams. Also, I think you must have good players in order for the tactic to actually work. I didn't try it on worse teams, but it's fair to say the players must have good on-the-ball abilities as well as good defensive abilities and focus throughout the whole 90 minutes.

    Why is it not recommended to have both a mezzala and an inside forward on the same side of the pitch? To my understanding, in this combination, mezzala will make overlapping runs acting almost as a wing-back in possession. I currently use this combination and it works wonders for me. The only thing to mention is that it's worth considering playing your full-back in a defensive role in that situation - so you don't have two players making the same runs in the attack. Inverted full-back/wing-back or simply a full-back-on support works great.

I try to play faster and longer passes for my AF to be able to get behind the defenders and not drop deeper for the ball. Wing backs provide width while my IFs cut inside for Robben/Salah like shooting opportunities. High press, prevent GK. I tend to prefer fastest players for transfer options.

I think you can expect more crosses from IW's, and more chances on goal from IF's. If the player is a world class finisher I like to play them as IF, and if they are better crossers I play them as IW. I usually play one IF on one side, and either IW or W on the other side 😊

    I both agree and disagree on the whole low block thing. I have a 3-4-3 that when attacking evolves into a 2-3-5, but once we loose the ball and they have luck playing out of our initial counter-press, we go back in a low block and become a 5-4-1, which waits for the opponent to enter our half and then we swarm them in a press like wasps. It works amazingly well. Scores a hell of a lot of goals and is extremely defensively solid. It's a great tactic. However where i agree is that it's not something i would recommend for a new player to try to emulate. You have to know what you are doing to make something like that work. A new player is better of trying to make a simple 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 gegenpress. It's always a really good tactic and it's probably two of the easiest tactics to make.

    Frequent hater here (not really love you Z), ngl I think you’re really behind on tactics this year. This is the best fm ever purely because of the inverted full backs, liberos, half backs, better ai positional play. And yet for a fm creator you haven’t really got wild, haven’t really done a Pep fluid back 3/4, or come out with one of those brilliant asymmetrical tactics which look insane but just tick in the engine.
    I guess I’m not thinking this vid but the systems from the twitch save, always pretty similar tactics. what happened to the narrow 4132 from the other year, why not use a back five or create a libero tactic in a league you’ll be farming in a few months regardless? Don’t get me wrong everyone should play how they want to but again, for a fm creator I have seen little evidence that you can get IFBs working for a whole season.
    Love the content, love the new news channel, love the twitch vods, have seen very little development tactically since release

    Do you guys think fm is worth it on console? I think of switching to it due to ea’s consistent bs, but I’ve heard that it’s not that good on console

    For me all i need is quick wingbacks to overlap and cross , and a fast box to box cm , supported by a defensive minded deep lying playmaker , and a all out attacking cm , never ever failed me, no matter the sfyle of play. Edit Pressing forward is also key to my play

    This year I'm playing a tactic.That start now as a 424 in defence.But when we're in attack ends up as a 226.
    It uses an inverted fall back on the left with one Central defender on cover.Who stays back as our defending power.
    Then we have a libero on support, And a wing back on attack. So when we attack the liberal moves up into being more of a defensive midfielder, And our wing back goes shooting up the pitch.
    In the midfield I have a defensive midfielder on ball winning midfiand another defensive Midfielder set to segundo, So when on attack he goes shooting up the field and libero fills in his spot.
    Upfront we have advanced play maker on the left, Inside forward on the right, And right now.
    The world's greatest strike partnership with a combined sixty goals this season, One is an advanced forward.One is a pressing forward.
    I play this system because I wanted to play Total football But you can't do that in fm. I use a whole bunch of individual instructions on the players to make them do what I want to do and end up on the pic where I want them to end up.
    We play mostly out of defence with it.Set to then go out onto the wings, work into the box With low crosses.
    And if you're wondering yes it's a gegenpress tactic.

    You say here that having a WBR and an AMR with no overlap instructions will cause conflict. But haven't you said in the past that the over/underlap instructions are unnecessary because players will automatically look to do that anyway? Something which will surely take care of itself even more with the positional play in FM24.

    I found that analyzing your squad and building a tactic that fits your team is just Step 1.
    You still have to play the game. And when you play, you’ll see the flaws in your tactics and adapt accordingly.
    I also recommend playing on Comprehensive Highlights once in a while.
    Just to see how each player's role and instructions work together.

    Its not intimidating at all, zealand over hyped it
    all you need is to put tackling on hard, pressing to max tempo to max underlap (doesnt matter what your players are)
    the engine is broken and shite and needs a full rewrite
