I signed Dante as a back up center back at 38 years old when I started a save with Standard de Liège because he played there early in his career. Got 2 pretty good years out of him and after his retirement he became a coach at the club and then managed the youth team, now he is a manager in Ligue 1 and he's doing pretty well. That was a nice storyline to follow in that save

33 year old Declan Rice after reaching the premier league for the first time thinking he’d be good for the first season and he ended up staying for 5 years playing to a really good level and captaining the side into the Europa League before retiring at which point I replaced him with an aging Jude Bellingham. This was FM 22 before the Saudi teams would declare interest in any old player and make them unwilling to renew a contract 😢

The problem with Bellingham is that he is genuinely world class at age 35 in FM.
Had a save a where i swapped to real madrid close to 15 years in, he was still playing there and he was by far the best option in midfield period lmao
The other problem is the ageism in FM in general, but that in itself collorates to what you said, some older players can still be genuinely good.
Honestly the 30+ year old player being "washed up" was thrown out the window after FM20. Since then they are genuinely amazing options and if they have high natural fitness still can have amazing attributes (and more importantly amazing PHYSICAL attributes) at the age of 35+.
I wish that FM YTers would change their opinion on 30+ year old players since it has been 4 editions now that they have become useful, but FM YTers still sell them the second they become 30. I personally think FM needs to create a benefit for having 30+ year old players - especially in playing better in finals compared to young players, composure and motivating young players in big game moments

@@bananarama3624 I think it’s bc their value goes down after 31, you can sell them at 30 for good value but yeah I’ve had midfielders still start for CL teams who were 33+ bc they were still work class, had giroud at 38 still banging 30 goals a season
The scouting world knowledge reminds me of my last journeyman save. I managed several national teams (Ukraine U-23s, Morocco, France) and clubs in different countries (Austria, England, USA, Italy, Spain) over the span of 7 seasons or so which left me with heaps of scouting knowledge and a long list of spoken languages.
Fun fact: You learn the language of your club faster than of your national team, but you gain scouting knowledge of your national team faster (which makes sense).
Funny story: When Jörg Schmadke found his first non-playing job as the director of football at Alemannia Aachen, he said he answered an advertisement in the leading German football magazine (Kicker) that was placed by Alemannia because they were looking for somebody.
If I'm struggling to get a good save I like to start unemployed with badges appropriate for the level I want to manage and go on holiday for 2-3 years, then apply for jobs.. Always find I get a really fun save that way.

I signed Elneny with Marseille, and he helped me win the French Cup one year, then was a key contributor off the bench for my Treble winning side. Somehow not respecting the 30-year old rule worked for me
Signed him in my first Hull season. Dude bossed my midfield. Signed Christian Eriksen in season 2 and he's my top scorer. Over 30s are my new favourite signings

I was playing football manager. Was winning 1-0 and enemy goalkeeper scored in 94th minute from cornerkick. Tilted finished last few minutes of the game, saved and left the game.

Playing in USL League Two (yes, I downloaded an American database), and 1st season I signed a 43yr old striker, fully expecting him to retire at the end of the season. Anyway, he scored 30 goals that season, and now in my second season, he still hasn't retired. Given he's just had his birthday, he's now 45 years old... And still miles better than any other striker at my club, all of whom are at least 20 years younger...
My squad has 99 players out on loan, according to my development centre re: 4:00

I actually signed several over 30 players which were my key players on making 2 promotions. Granted they were old, but more consistent in playing rather than the younger ones. Either them or foreign players, but sadly my foreign players quota were full.

The hardest part of FM is the 2-4 years after promotion to top flight where your stature isn’t high enough, but to get your stature high enough you need to get in the champions league

I did buy back at least 3 of my ex-players aged 29, 31 and 28 back to my build a Nation Latvian side.
Two Main reasons: they are extremely versatile and so i wouldnt have Sold them if the offers werent that good. And secondly i need 14 homegrown Players and arent allowed more than 14 non-latvians in my 30 men roster.
2 of them will likely retire next year and will be absolute Club legends. They are Captain and Vice-Captain but dont play more than 15 Games a season anymore.
In my second season in the Premier league, I bought koopmainers and milinkovic savic in their early to mid 30s and that turned out to be exactly what i needed in my squad balance to win the champions league with Crewe after having them for 2 seasons at the club
Got to 3rd place with them in my second season in the league. Won the Champions League in my 3rd season. Won the premier league in my 4th season

I only sign 30+ players under very strict conditions. Home grown rule if i don't have enough, back up keeper, or i'm playing for a weaker team and need some instant quality. Otherwise, i limit my search to a maximum of 25 years old.
I got question. I’m have a very unusual last name that isn’t common at all anywhere, and I’ve never seen it in fm, but when I took my academy intake, there was a player with my last name and nationality. Does fm add new gens to database with your last name!
I currently employ 120 players in my Bilbao save, it's time consuming but it's the best way to ensure that you'll get the most out of every Basque player there is. Essentially, I have 4 teams to fill (senior, B and C team plus the u-19's) and the rest go out on loan,. I have a bunch of affiliates so it's not that challenging to find loans.
Th only time I manage friendlies is at the start of a new save and I've sacked my full staff to bring in better people and I can't delegate yet

Ok hear me out. Sometimes a good goalkeeper over 30 can still have a great impact, especially with leadership skills and better yet if it is a free transfer.
I signed a 30 year old Diego Costa for free from Saudi Arabia to Man U. We've won 5 prems in a row along with at least 1 of every other competition.
The first goal of the season thing was worse for me. Striker gets his first goal for Gillingham, on the last day of the season, to cost me automatic promotion.
Never understood the age problem in FM. Most of my players retire at my club, unless they get upset and leave for stupid reasons. 50% of my players are above 30, I found it helps with winning trophies consistently.

Will u be doing another rating tactics video anytime soon? I have a mad tactic to submit. Includes a lot of diagonal long balls between wing backs but short passes in the middle of the park. all my attacking play is initiated and finished by my right side but with all assists coming from the left. I use a wing back and IF on attack on the right side but cover the ground defensively with a wide centre back and half back on stay wide. The tactic is working great for me but it requires a tall striker and left winger who can float crosses as well as fast tall centre backs who can play wide. However when my 6’7 Striker is injured i mostly get draws or very tight wins, but even when the tactic doesn’t get goals it remains solid defensively.
Zealand, two questions : 9:32 who are the "we"? And after you've attained your objectives with the save, what do you think of using the editor to make Lehlomela Badboy a 190 PA and playing him for a year or something to get a grasp at the potential he should have had?

6:40 for me is not about the goal scorer, it's the goal keeper, i had couple of games in a row where lost the game or getting a draw while having way higher XG than the opponent, because opposite GK become Courtois in UCL final, they end the game with rating above 7,5, one time even they finished with ratings 9.5 and than i checked their average ratings and it's always around 6.5.

Personally age doesnt matter in this game at all for me giroud scored 50 goals in a season won best player of the year and everything aged 37

I'm always going to get Milinkovic savic for free after he leaves Al Hilal. That guy is a beast. On my last save got him for free then sold him back to saudi for 40M next season, he became a fan favorite in that single season.
