  • Thor Love and Thunder continues to RUIN the Marvel mythos. Just as Taika Waititi promised. Disney Marvel has moved past being a shadow of it's former self straight into an M-She-U PARODY.

Like Thor Ragnorok, I absolutely LOVE that movie it’s by far my favorite of the entire MCU but at the same time it has a very flat plot that wouldn’t have did so well had it not been for the amazing cast of characters. Infinity War is GOATED it’s the best film of the entire MCU but that’s it’s for me the other movie plots are so stupid and easily forgettable especially Age of Ultron and Endgame. But again this is MY opinion not shittin on the MCU but to imply the storylines were any good is a reach the only characters that had any development and good stories were Tony and Thor. And Thor’s story only gets good starting with Ragnarok and it ends in Infinity War he’s completely ruined in Endgame to make the whole movie about Tony Stark making amends and helping everyone one last time before eventually dying.

I will never understand how Disney simultaneously shoves “female empowerment” down our throats while also shoeing in the erasure of women. It’s like they’ve been screaming at the top of their lungs that women are just as strong as men, but OH NO! Don’t call any of us “Lady” or “Queen” because that’s somehow an insult. I would LOVE for someone at Disney to tell Queen Elizabeth that her title has actually meant nothing for the past 70 years, and that she should’ve just chosen the title of “King” to really command respect. Riiiiiiight. 🙄 So, I guess the message is: Men are sh*t, but also superior enough that we have to steal their titles? What a stellar lesson to teach young girls, Disney.

To be clear, I absolutely understand what you were saying and I hope I’m not coming off argumentative. I‘m just further emphasizing my point that it’s silly to try to spin the message that a queen is somehow “beneath” the title of a king when there is no king. It’s like comparing apples to oranges-an apple a day may keep the doctor away, but oranges also protect the immune system. Why be an apple when an orange has equal power?

    • @anothercat1300
      @anothercat1300 Před rokem +27

The queen represents the Heart of a Nation. The way a King treats his Queen is a reflection of his treatment towards his people. If he treats her poorly the King is written as a Tyrant and a fiend inevitably.
Also a Queen possesses Kingly authority over those who are subject to the King. That puts most men in the Kingdom beneath her.
Leaving it at "well a King has more power than her" is a modern distortion of out culture. A will to Power isn't everything. Marvel movies don't get that today. It makes the movies so boring to watch.
If you want real heroics watch the Zatoichi films. He's the definition of Justice. He's not emasculated and is better to watch than any of the garbage we get today.

I've been a hardcore MCU fan since it's inception. But lately i am becoming numb to it... I have reasons.
    1. Each movie lacks an effective story. It's like they're making these movies for kids. MoM could've been much much more, so could Thor 4. But instead we got what we did.
    2. The humor... I believe an MCU film can be very very good, even without the one liners/quips etc. It's reached a point where it feels forced/manufactured.
    3. THE MESSAGE. Personally speaking, i don't know if I can survive another "both my fathers/mothers..." dialogue. It's shitty writing. A good story doesn't need to pander to socio-political agendas to be good.
I know it's a pipe dream but i hope they change their M.O
Gimme a good character, understandable motives, with gravitas, and a compelling growth arc. Not some dumb 2 dimensional comedy trope Thor + Gorr turned out to be.

I don’t find it ironic that the *ONLY* good Thor movie didn’t have Natalie Portman/Jane in it. Thor is so much better as a character without her, that’s how you know she’s absolutely horrible, and he had more chemistry with Valkyrie in 1 movie than he’s had with Jane in about 2/3. Not to mention his bromance with Loki is far more compelling and emotional and made for the vastly superior movie so Jane and Thor seem *EXTRA* lackluster by comparison. All in all, the character needs to be sidelined for good. I *TOLD* people Thor 4 would be atrocious before it was even released simply because the plot centered around Jane. We could’ve had Asguardians of the Galaxy but for WHATEVER reasons they decided to bring Jane, the most boring, uninspiring, and insipid character, back. And not just bring her back, make her have Thor’s power with his costume and hammer to match, and be slowly killed by it. SMFH

The whole "King Valkyrie" is the most problematic part of the movie. The title of "king" is not somehow more prestigious than "queen", the titles denote the sex of the monarch. And to be clear, a monarch is the one who reigns. You can have a king with a queen consort, or you can have a queen with a king consort. By choosing the title of "king", Valkyrie is putting down the title of queen for absolutely no reason. Worse, it implies Valkyrie doesn't understand the meaning behind the title at all, wearing it like one would a costume. By implying king to be a superior title, it also implies queen is an inferior title.

As far as I can see being a comic book reader, the problem with the MCU is that they blend stories together which has become unnerving to comic book readers. It’s obvious as you stated in your video that this was Disney’s intention all along. They have succeeded in single-handedly making the marvel universe into a joke. Thor and the Incredible Hulk are my two favorite heroes and now they are an afterthought movie wise because of the masculinity they represent. The Jane Foster “Thor” run in the comics was masterfully done IMO because of Odinson being unworthy at the time plus the way Mjolnir responded to Jane Foster differently than Thor because the cosmic storm locked inside of the uru metal by Odin’s enchantment was female as explained in that story and the Mangog angle was brilliant which came back around in Donny Cates’ current Thor run: God of Hammers. The story of Gorr the God butcher was butchered! In fact the story of Asgard on earth in Broxton Oklahoma was butchered by comic book standards as well. These movies are more for the casual fan and children more than anything now and I don’t see it getting any better going forward. Thor has never handled Stormbreaker in the comics anyway, that’s Beta Ray Bill’s weapon. If they gave Thor his original weapon Jarnbjorn, it might’ve made for a much darker toned film which is what Thor should be anyway but what do I know I I’ve read comics since the 70’s!

I'm a old Gen-X and grew up reading comic books and yes, I'm one of those guys who started collecting comic books in the mid 70's and my collection was way above average back then and even more so by today's market. It contained many early 60's to late 60's and so on with around 4000 to 5000 comic books and all 1st and direct print editions with some specifics issues I hunted down through the decades with many hundreds at least worth a 1000 times their weight in gold. I said "I had" because I passed it on to my son as a family heirloom in 2012 when he came of age. Of course the jewel of my collection was/is "Journey into Mystery #83 graded 9.4 by CGC" which was the comic book that got me hooked on THOR right there and then when I was old enough to read. Of course that comic book wasn't a collectible item as it was I don't know how many reprints it was. But when I came of age and had the means, I hunted them all down, any direct 1st print editions.
I am a Marvel purist and especially when it comes down to THOR and I can recount almost every runs/story lines off the top of my head and can point you to the right books for the facts you're looking for and/or specific story lines by just you giving me a hint about what you're looking for. From the origins even to this day with the Donny Cates run going on right now. So, that's enough for setting up the context on how and why I know what I am talking about when it comes to the Marvel character of THOR and as to why I hated this movie so much.
The character of THOR appeared in a total of 8 MCU movies including 4 of his own. Again, being that THOR made the majority of my golden eggs among my collection and the most complete above all other Marvel/DC various character runs. Seeing how the MCU portrayed THOR in the MCU is heartbreaking and It pains me to see kids (young millennials and Gen-Z) these days not knowing their Marvel characters other than what the MCU/Kevin Feige feeds/tells them in their movies and they never picked up a comic book in their lives. The MCU completely destroyed and retcon the Marvel character of THOR. They made him a buffoon, a comic relief, a dumba$$, weakling, a dimwit and totally nerfed him power and abilities wise. The MCU character is night and day from the comic book version. THOR Ragnarok, Avengers: End Game and now this latest THOR love and thunder movie, have completely made a mockery of the great Marvel character of THOR.
Taika Waititi directed the two worse films of THOR and this man should never come within a thousand yards of anything THOR related future projects. This THOR Love And Thunder is a big joke from start to finish and it pains me to see one of Stan Lee's greatest characters used in such ways that he must be rolling in his grave right now. Me who thought that no new THOR movie could ever be as bad or worse than THOR: Ragnarok, then Taika Waititi comes along, proves me wrong and surpasses himself by directing his second piece of sh*t THOR movie.
Katherine Kennedy destroyed "Star Wars" and "Luke Skywalker", so much so that this hit Disney hard. And now, they are letting this happen again by having bad writers and even worse directors. Katherine Kennedy was/is the doom of "Star Wars". While "Kevin Feige is turning into Katherine Kennedy" and "Taika Waititi" is the "Rian Johnson" version of Marvel. You want to know who the real Marvel Thor is, pick up a few comic books from the golden age up till the Donny Cates run going on right now, That's the real Thor, King and All-Father of Asgard.

This needed to be a more serious movie.
    Odin is dead.
Rebuilding Asgard on Earth doesn't work.
Thor should be tired, but tired of meaninglessness. He has to seek to rebuild a new kingdom somewhere in the universe, and make his father proud.
He needed to be done being childish and needed to become a more serious actual leader.
This is how he discovers new abilities. How to grant power to others. Etc.
This was Thor's opportunity to learn how to be more than just muscle and brawn. He could become more strategic, wiser, more oriented to magic and control of his powers. An enhanced Thor who doesn't rely on strength, but actual power.
And yet, secretly, off-screen, Gorr could develop as a looming threat because gods turn up dead everywhere, and no one actually knows why.
So the arch for Thor is to discover his inner Odin, and beginning to search for a real, official, majestic and respected new Asgard. At the same time, Gorr looms as a thread.
It's time for Thor to take his place as Odin. That's the arc.
And his love interest would have been the first person he is able to embue with power, but the cancer is inevitable. Her death makes him really mature. Female Thor should have died SO quickly into the movie.
Instead, they made him a dumb, ridiculous bro who now cares for a child.
So much could have been cut. And Christian Bale should have been kept as a Thanos figure, who kills gods left and right. He could have shown his growing strength killing amazing looking gods, showing that a fight against Thor could turn up deadly.
Dammit! There was so much that could have been done differently, and yet we ended up with crap. 😖

Thor could not be bothered to stop Thanos before he snapped away the entire Universe (including Eternity itself)...

The hammer as you say focus Thor's powers, but it can also bestow the power of Thor to anyone who's worthy, so unconsciously Thor will power up anyone worthy that lifts the hammer, that's what happened to Captain America.
The hammer got stronger because Thor himself got stronger, we never actually saw if Thor ever tried to wield the hammer after it was broken...
Jane "stole" the armour, I don't know if the armour is somehow linked to Thor or if maybe he can conjure any armour he imagines and if that's the case, if Jane wanted a armour to fight probably the first idea would come to mind would be the first time she saw Thor powering up so it's only natural that the armour is similar...

When you think about what Thor has lost like it makes wandas yearning for her kids seem juvenile because imo he is the most shit on character in marvel right now. Lost his home, his brother who he just reconciled with, lost his father, lost his mother at a young age, and countless numbers of his people have died and yet they still treat his movies like comedies. Thor should be a deep character study not a comedy with how they've developed his character.

*That said* I completely agree that the producers/writers/directors seem to have zero empathy for Thor's journey, which as you illustrated is full of serious tragedy. And I don't think if a female character went through all that, that she would be treated like a joke. My piece.

For the 1st issue, the MCU movie timeline was on a set schedule, and they couldn't move their booked shootings, hired crew, equipment, and literally the DIRECTORS AND ENTIRE OTHER CAST for just one person who wasn't the lead. For the 2nd issue, this was before "the future is female" Phase Bore of the MCU, and whoever was ACTUALLY in charge had the right to hire and fire directors, so it's my understanding that they weren't exactly asking for Portman's input on the matter. She's very self-righteous and deluded, and poor Chris Hemsworth even admitted he went vegan for the day of their kissing scene. The woman thinks way too highly of herself.

Woman rarely physically sacrifice themselves in superhero movies anymore, because it makes them look "weak" (newsflash: no it doesn't).

@@KevvoLightswift the sacrifice was messy IMO. We aren't given details what the cancer is doing and whether it is reversible. It was left very vague. Why does Mjolnir call out to her under the pretext of looking after her if using the hammer just kills her quicker? Doesn't that contradict the enchantment? Also why wasn't Thor able to put together the hammer anyways as it shows that he's still worthy.
All these issues could have easily be solved if they spent a day trying to figure out how to convey some logic in their writing.

An axe is better for killing than a hammer is in every way. And we already saw mjiolnir is only able to stun thanos it doesn't do any visible damage. SB on the other hand is able to cut him. So there's ways where you can have diverse characters and still make them very interesting and relevant to the plot. Like this is writing class 101 how to write diverse characters without making them about their diversity, but not also ignoring what makes them different, a balancing act. I really love the representation the last few years but at the same time I'm also cannot ignore the fact that. It doesn't feel genuine like oh hi I'm character and I happen to be blank. It feels like the very opposite of subtle that it's more about getting a demographic than actually having different and interesting new characters. Like yeah phase one Marvel definitely wasn't as diverse but that doesn't mean that you have to like put it up in everyone's faces and in a way that doesn't feel genuine. I think that's kind of the problem it does not feel genuine and real you can have super cool and interesting characters without making their difference their whole identity. As someone who is a person of color and lgbtq+ I didn't really feel seen I just felt like I was a demographic to get money from now that's trending and socially acceptable, to to see US as a demographic. You guys aren't the only ones complaining about the representation, but sometimes it feels like some fans are complaining just the existence of representation, but not how it came across. But anyhow that's my two cents I wrote a long one since this is like a major pet peeve of mine. Tho one Marvel show I think really hit it of on rep was Falcon and Winter soldier. It kind of humanized all the characters and we finally get to see some level of reality hit some of the characters. Also the after effects of the blip

Just saw this abomination today. I lost count of the number of times I was shaking my head and muttering FFS...Thor Odinson, who has been alive and "around" for a couple of thousand years reduced to comic relief. Waititi has no place directing any further Marvel movies, my favourite comedic relief was the screaming goats. Other than that, way too many jokes. And wow, how fortunate that all of the children were "worthy". Seems like everyone's worthy these days, "you can be Thor, you be Thor, here you be Thor".
So the "villain" ends up winning and making a "heroic sacrifice", after a temporary and newly powered female Thor makes a heroic sacrifice, while the titular main character spent most of the movie as lovelorn comic relief. And we are meant to accept this pathetic version of Zeus and the nonsensical reasons for refusing to help? and for crying out loud that Hercules in the post credit scene.... Belch.... The actor may have played a "football hardman", but he does not have the physique to be Hercules. Marvel movies going forward, if they're like this are a lost cause.
