I thought the same. lol. Imagine trying to explain to sometimes me that your metal spoon and lighter is for “just in case” you need to impression a key out of low temp solder.
A brilliant display of casting skill with a viable product from such a small piece of kit shows how well thought out and engineered this is. While not my wheelhouse, it gets me excited for the other projects currently being cooked up.
It's nothing I could use but I really like the design, presentation and thought that went into another excellent product by CI. Keep it up the great work.
No review option on the website but just got it and will put my review here: 7/10 Unboxing this was a wonderful experience as always with CI and was packaged neatly and arrived fast! The included spoon, retention band and roller are great quality and excellent to use. The outer case is great too BUT, the interior case in which you put the clay in and mold the key in seems to have been forgotten and lacks in the quality department with cheap tolerances creating a gap so wide that I can drop a COIN through it. I love CI’s tools and devices and it does still work but this let me down. As this is the main part it makes me rate this a 7/10 hope the quality resumes with the next product they make.
Super high-quality, unique product. Bought all product lines of your lock picks. I was super impressed on the quality !! Thanks, guys, for making my entry to Locksport awesome!!!
This is the coolest covert tool. Even if some people don’t buy this it just enhanced the cool factor and the reputation of CI even more that’s even possible. You guys use the best steel and have affordable prices, you actually care about out community instead of screwing us like other companies.
Anyone else impressed at how well this was designed? So many functions in so few pieces. Impressive compared to the amount of garbage that’s advertised.
I just ordered the FNG - Genesis Set and the quad comb set, I am excited to play with it and just have fun! Very reasonable pricing as well, even when it converted to Canadian currency
I find our exchange rate to be stupid expensive, and you need to add customs. As of late, some companies I get no customs, and other companies always means customs.
there are six molds on the inside of the black plastic. it will allow you to reheat the metal back to a liquid, then pour it in the mold, then reuse again later
Those squares are absolutely not used for melting the metal back to squares. Nobody listen to that advice. They are purely for storing them. Once they are used you keep or throw the key away. He sells refills for a reason.
Fields metal is more expensive but much safer than woods metal as it does not contain lead or cadmium. I believe LPL or Devian Ollam discussed that in a video but I'm not able to find it.
Field's metal melts at 144°F, slightly less than Wood's metal at 158@°F. I've never used either one; before I substituted I'd want to know how they compare in hardness. Anybody know? Amazon sells both. Wood's metal is $1.50/oz; Field's metal is $20/oz. Of course both are reusable.
It is great to fit the Bic in there as an all in one. However, what do you think about a Clipper Jet or any similar jet style lighter flame that blows more like a torch?
@@alphabravo424 Yes, this tool would be immensely useful for locksmiths dealing with broken keys! It's also good for entry specialists and red teamers.
You've distracted the key's owner, you whip out your pre-prepared clay assembly, take the key impression, put everything back, key owner none the wiser. Just like in every secret agent movie.
I wonder if these cast keys can then be used in an automated key duplication machine (like the kind at hardware stores) to make a more durable and functional copy
Not a bad demo video, I would have been more impressed if the key you had just cast was used to open the lock. Maybe spend the interim 'cooling time' showing where the metal cubes and clay get stored inside the case.
The hard part is to get yourself in position to aquire a key to copy in the first place. It is for high security keys, so mainly Physical penetration testers. The common key, and some do not duplicate keys can be made at a locksmith or self-use machine at Home Depot without any questions.
So does anyone know how you would use that crappy copy to make a more permanent mold (at my forge let’s say) for a harder metal to cast more durable key copies?
@@canadafree2087you don’t understand my question… how do you make a more permanent mold from the shitty ingot copy you just made.. not the original key.. like when you get back to your forge with your spy copy.. how would you create let’s say a sand mold or other material in order to cast a copper or steel key
It looked to me like a pretty good casting. But I don't know how hard Wood's metal is, so I'd also want a better copy. The answer is, make a plaster cast of the Wood's metal key and pour brass into it. Both Sculpy and plaster make finely detailed castings.
Actually, if you want a brass casting you can do it directly from the original, if you can wait 2-3 hours for the plaster to set. No need for the Wood's metal intermediate step.
So I’m guessing this is meant that if somebody broke their key and it was an oddball that you don’t have blanks for this would help the customer out of a jam until you can get the proper blank and duplicate the original broken key. I’m guessing that’s the point of this. If anyone knows more practical reasons to have this I’d love to hear them
I see no reason to have this. This is a bored engineer, trying to find something to do with this time. Let’s set a timer. You do this, I’m gonna pull out my Dremel tool and cut the shackle and replace the lock with a new one. And… Go.
I think so. It has the color and luster of pewter; lead is dull and medium gray. Lead isn't suitable for keys, as it's too soft; you'd get one or two uses with a lead key, or none at all. Also pewter's melting point is lower, 340-440°F vs lead's 620°F.
I don't really see a use for this. There a better and cheaper ways to break in to something, and breaking in to something is all this is good for. Locksport is for the fun of picking locks like solving a puzzle. This combines the uselessness of being a bad way to break in to something while also removing the fun of picking a lock. 100 bucks for a piece of plastic that you could 3d print for a few bucks and some children's modeling clay is obnoxious.
I just do not see where this is applicable. Maybe somebody wants a copy of a skeleton key? It’s not exactly what I would call a trustworthy option for a spare dimple key. Just buy a new padlock and you’ll get two or three new keys with it? Instead, we’re gonna be sitting in our vans looking like we’re smoking meth. This is what happens when engineers have way too little work to do at their actual job and too much free time on their hands. 😂
It's nice. But if you already have a key to copy . Why would I need it. Just take the key out and copy it on a machine, and be done with it . Hell it would be better to have something like that where you can put in a cut down key in it and then melt down the metal and pour it in the mold so you can have a soft impressing key
It’s for committing a crime with a key you only have for a short period. Aka you only have about 1-2min with someone’s key while they are not present and you want to gain entry into wherever. Or at work you have access to a whole key ring.. but can’t leave the job without returning keys.. so it’s for dirty criminals or spy wannabes.. you could impression a bathroom key at a 7-eleven which is a f-ing dumb idea… but you could do it rapidly in the bathroom and then pour into the saved impression later on when you have time.. but still f-ing dumb of course
From personal past experience, I’ve been in a position where I could not allow the “owner” of the key to ever know their key(s) were copied. In one instance my plans required me take the keys to the hardware store and return them before the folks woke up and this would have been less stressful. But if you’re not a piece of shit criminal like I was then there aren’t many needs for it. Still a cool gadget that I wish I’d had!
Anyone that finds this kit on me is going to think I'm doing drugs
Exactly what I was thinking🤣.
Probably more socially acceptable than telling them what it actually is for. 😂
I may use this to start taking drugs. Great setup!
Either that or you are a stalker or serial killer.😊

I learned lock picking skills over covid for fun and bc I'm a prepper, I find this kit awesome! I have no clue what I would use it for though 😂
Mostly for making a usable key out of a key that broke off below the head. And secret agent stuff.
Im not used to this guy being so calm and polite
Yes, jamming that key into a mannequin’s eyeball at the end would have been more on-brand.
Wait, is that actually McNally??? If so, I didn't even recognize his voice!

I have a question. Whats the purpose? I mean if you have the key, why are you casting a replica?
I guess if you break the part of the key where you turn and are able to retrieve it

Ingots must be spherical to have a bit faster melting. Or spoon must have flat bottom.
