Get ready for the most exciting drag race in carwow history!
We’ve got the World Championship-winning Red Bull RB8 going up against the 1,914hp Rimac Nevera and the Goodwood Hillclimb record-holding McMurtry Spéirling!
So let’s see how these marvellous machines compare. Starting with the Rimac, it’s equipped with four electric motors that can produce an eye-watering 1,914hp and 2,360Nm of torque. It’s packing a 120kWh battery pack, so as a result it’s pretty heavy, tipping the scales at around 2,300kg. And as you can imagine, all of that power doesn’t come cheap, with the Nevera costing around £2,000,000!
Alongside it we have the McMurtry. This single-seater EV is a whole lot lighter than the Rimac, weighing in at just 1,000kg. It’s also equipped with two electric motors that produce around 1,000hp, while also packing an incredible fan system that helps to generate 2,000kg of downforce! As a result, it can shoot off from the line like nothing you’ve ever seen before! But there’s a catch - it’s limited to a top speed of only 150mph...
Then finally we have the F1 car, driven by Red Bull’s reserve driver, Liam Lawson. He’s driving Sebastian Vettel’s Championship-winning RB8, which is equipped with a 2.4-litre V8 that can produce 800hp. It’s easily the lightest car here, at around 700kg, and all power is sent to the rear wheels only.
So it’s an absolutely incredible line-up, but will electric power triumph?! Or will the F1 car prove victorious? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

The rb8 did a 9.5 and those cars somehow made it look like it was standing still… insane

Imagine the McMurtry without a limiter!!!!
@Presto_001 it doesn't have a limiter. It topped out because it was running a gearbox for Goodwood festival of speed. So it topped out in gear, not because of a limiter.
In race 2, the McMurtry took off like a rocket - I also want to know the distance which Liam stopped in from 100mph, F1 car in the brake test was crazy
A TT Lambo or R8, ES motor Porsche or a tuned GTR would have been so much better than that F1. It just lacks a lot of power.
I’m amazed that Rimac made a street car that can keep up with a literal race car… and a ballistic missile with a fan strapped to the bottom.
Race cars are built for purpose though, not to be good at any race you throw at them. A funny car would annihilate the Rimac in a drag race, top fuel dragster will obliterate it. Of course, that doesn't take anything away from the Rimac, just it's not beating anything in its discipline. It's a street car and it's absolutely fine so
McMurty is also street legal, and so as much of a street car as the Rimac is.

@@LostinYTblackhole he can though, most just do sim and in the one or two fp1 the reserve if a rookie, can make some launches off the pits, but no actual race start procedure training. Only case was De Vries which was indeed going to drive and spent some time training it.

More relevant would be to say that this F1 car is over 10 years old so it has older regulation specs, not to mention that launching the car is only fractions of a second on a 90 minute race... The cars aren't purpose-built for drag race, they're built for GPs.

@@SmzxeF1 car needs to be properly warmed up to be able to get power to the track. You need those tires in the working temperature range. And for a test like this you’d want to run a low downforce setup too. Would love to see something like the mercedes amg W11 take part in a drag race like this

F1 car is harder to start that's why it needs pit crew
You should read the process that has to be gone through to start and run an F1 car! The tolerances in the engine are so tight that you can't even turn it over unless it is heated ... to around 80 Celsius. The tyres need heated too of course.
You can't even start the car without a pit team haha.
F1 can't cold start. You have to warm up the engine from an external heater so that the extra-tight engine tolerance slack up. Otherwise, it's pretty much seized when cold.

There always needs to be a normal car in these races. JUST to show how incredible these cars really are. Those 8-9 second run’s looked miles apart, but show how Normal Joe’s 12-13 second run’s will stack up.
Absolutely this. Stick a Golf R or M3 in there to show what a reasonably fast road car is like in comparison.

The other important thing to note from this outcome and especially the rolling 1/2 mile is that the older 2020-22 KTM MotoGP with bike would utterly humiliate the Rimac like it was nothing. The GP bike will easily smash the Rimac from 80mph to 200+ the GP bike will decimate them😮 I knew the GP bikes were fast from the second the front wheel touches back down after a launch... but seing the 1/2 roll the bikes gunna beat everything here for fun. 1/4 mile Drag race if the bike doesnt wheelspin for the first 8th mile like it did even when it put in a quick time, then the GP bike is outright the king of straight line speed bar tuned drag machines

It is.. and not to beat a dead horse.. but that’s what makes a Tesla Plaid absurd.. at $130,000.. room for 5.. massive luggage space.. and a comfort level to not just drive every day.. but easily and happily do so. Even in the Nivera.. you would never use it as a everyday car. Though admittedly, you ‘could’. You just wouldn’t. A plaid.. you not only ‘could’, you would. And while it is clearly slower.. it is also 10 times more comfortable.. more useable.. and actually ‘affordable’ by a significant number of people. You can probably put the Lucids in there too.. though a bit more $. Again, the Nivera is very impressive and has its place. I am very interested to see what Rimac does with the tech.. only stays in the stratosphere.. or will they ever come make something for the world of mortals lol

Almost 3 weeks after this Liam finally launched his first F1 car in an F1 race.
And he did himself proud!
And overtook the current world champion in the worst car on the grid on his first F1 race! In the rain! Liam is a badass!

Clarkson never thought that Rimac just fuck off in launch while May and Clarkson was head to head halfway until May lose because his lack of power hit him on final stretch.
This Rimac is the updated version compared to previous one and have better specs than before. On previous Video (1st Rimac Nevera reveal), Matt score 8.62 seconds and now it scored 8.4 seconds which is 0.2 secs faster than before.

Could be cheap for them, they own the car and all the equipment, and the people might have it in their contracts to do publicity events like this on occasion. Only cost might be fuel for transport and the race

Yes the Rimac and McMurtry are crazy impressive but what's even more impressive is how quick an 11 year old F1 car stopped on an unprepped old runway. Truly insane.

F1 cars have never been drag cars. It’s pretty much their biggest weakness, makes for a cool story for non-car guys tho.
@@mathorsky lol what. F1 cars were designed with both those things in mind as well cornering. launch is massively important, as well as top speed. The surface in this video is not good for an F1 car, on proper tarmac it'd likely keep up on launch and pull on the nevera over a longer straight. If there were corners, the F1 car would walk away from them both.

WOW.... the BRILLIANT Fan System in the McMurtry Speirling reminds me of another BRILLIANT Fan System on the Can-Am Group 7 Jim Hall Chaparral 2J: America's Most Extreme Race Car. He was so fast the car and it's technology was banned.
Didn't realize until just now watching the McMurtry Speirling pre-load downforce with fan running at full power even before staring it's beyond amazing pull off starting line.
Top Fuel Race Car has to be going really fast before it can hookup with ground as it's 10,000 hp is put on the 2 rear tires. The Rear Wing for downforce only works with speed and air going over it like an airplane wing upside down.
