C/K is a series of trucks that were manufactured by General Motors. Marketed under the Chevrolet and GMC brands, the C/K series included a wide range of vehicles. While most commonly associated with pickup trucks, the model line also included chassis-cab trucks and medium-duty trucks and served as the basis for GM full-size SUVs. Used for both the model branding and the internal model code, "C" denoted two-wheel drive; "K" denoted four-wheel drive.
Introduced for the 1960 model year, four generations of the model line were produced, with GMC rebranding full-size pickups under a singular GMC Sierra nameplate for 1988. GM marketed the C/K in South America in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.
After 1989, medium-duty trucks exited the C/K series, replaced by the Chevrolet Kodiak/GMC TopKick. For 1999, the Chevrolet Silverado (marketed by GMC as the Sierra) replaced the model line, with production of C/K pickup trucks ending after the 2000 model year. Drawing its nameplate from the top-level C/K trim, the Silverado consolidated Chevrolet pickup trucks under a singular nameplate (following GMC). The final C/K vehicles were heavy-duty chassis cabs sold through the 2002 model year.
Numerous changes occurred in 1971. First came another new grille design (the "egg crate") for Chevrolet trucks and black paint over portions of the GMC grille. Second, an additional trim package was introduced: the Cheyenne. On GMC models, this was equivalent to the Sierra. These packages consisted mostly of comfort features - nicer interiors, more padding and insulation, carpet, chrome trim, and upper and lower side molding and tailgate trim. 1971 was the first year for AM/FM radios factory installed. Finally, the front brakes on all light-duty trucks were switched from drum brakes to disc brakes, resulting in much less brake fade under heavy use. While prior C/K half-ton trucks had used a six-lug bolt pattern (6 x 5.5") for the wheels, two-wheel-drive models switched to a five-lug pattern (5 x 5-inch bolt circle) common to Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Cadillac passenger cars. The 1/2 ton 4 x 4 retained the 6 lug bolt pattern. This bolt pattern would remain the standard through the end of the C/K series (along with the Chevrolet/GMC vans). The 20 and 30-series trucks had the 8 x 6.5" pattern. Also, Chevrolet changed the 396 V8 emblem designation to 400 V8.
The 1972 models were very similar to the 1971 models, with the only change being the rear view mirror was glued to the windshield rather than bolted to top of the cab, and metal or vinyl-covered flat door panels were no longer available; all trim level door panels were molded plastic with integral armrests and wood grain inserts on Cheyenne and Sierra trim levels. For restoration, it should also be noted that the door and window cranks were slightly longer due to the molded plastic door panels, and the vent windows were now secured with a single screw on the inside of the door, thus differentiating it from the 1971 model year. The trim levels were rearranged on GMCs, with the Custom now being the lowest level (the Deluxe being dropped) and the Sierra and Sierra Grande becoming separate trim levels at the top of the lineup rather than option packages as before. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Very happy to see these older kits being reissued. I’m 73 and still builden em . Wish you guys could get hold of the jo-Han molds😁
I'm sure they have some of them somewhere.
JoHan had some great kits!
I love how broad the age group of people who build models are , I’m 14 and my grandpa got me into the hobby a couple years ago. I love building all sorts of middles from armor models to cars to battleships and I love the connection it brings with it.
I heard the Johan molds were destroyed but you'd think one of the model companies would clone some of those great kits,,,they were very desirable and would go over big today
I miss the Jo-Han kits too. I had many. But it seems the tooling has changed hands so many times, no one knows where they are, or if they still exist.
I love the AC/DC reference, 1990 400 watts and an equaliser. You were the king!
Razor's EDGGEEEEEE!
I finally got mine built and the video posted after watching your review Chris. I did mine as an older used hauler
This is my Favorite 70's truck body of all time
Headlight tip,,, paint those chrome lenses gloss white and before the paint can dry wipe off only the middle so the white fades back to the edge,,,looks pretty real,,,try it you'll like it
One of the coolest kits I’ve seen you build. Thanks for sharing your work. Keep on teaching us!
Thanks, will do!
I just finished this kit. I used alot of your tips and techniques from this video. Thanks for all the info hpiguys 👍
Great to hear!
My father had a 72 Chevy Pickup in a similar baby blue. It was his competitive Truck Puller. "Little Blue" was the name. Always bring me back seeing that cab and color combo.
Time to grab the kit and build up a tribute. :)
Awesome work there, Sir! Also, now you have a nice stock pair of side mirrors for one of your other trucks! (Bonus!)
Whenever I see your videos I want to start building another model Kit. Thanks for taking the time.
Sprue trees, cab, bed & chassis are molded the exact same as the amt '72 Chevy...only thing different is the optional wedge bed & tools...but I think I need to get one of these for the accessories...
This will make a great display for vintage race cars and muscle cars. Also saw you using orange sharpie for turn signals red works well on chrome and on clear if you don't have clear paint.
Yup, used red on the tails.
Another great build! Brought back a lot of memories of disassembly and rebuilding this kit when a built one was given to me.
Thank you!
Love the old school ramp/wedge truck...now you need to load a sweet gasser on board & head for the local 1320' ✌😎
I have a old photo of Bruce Larson's USA1 Camaro sitting on one of those wedge trucks !
That would be cool
Another fun build. Thanks - and like the color you picked.
Glad you like it!
Beautiful build! I built one of those original release kits when I was about 12 or so. Thanks for the memories!😃
Glad you enjoyed it!
I got mine !! Now lets hope they bring back the tow truck as well ! Can anyone say cooters!
That would be great!
Would like to see your entire model display of all the kits you have built .
I like all the extras you did , mirrors look great . Kit is awesome, build is even better .
SOOOOO KOOOOOLLLL
Glad you like them!
Just picked this one up, can't wait to build it!
Thanks, and enjoy!
Very nice kit and gorgeous build as always!!! 👍
Thank you kindly!
Love all the cool extras
Thanks, and enjoy!
Great build as always. Like how you added some were to the ramp. Have a great weekend.
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks Awesome! Can’t wait to do mine thanks for sharing
You are so welcome!
Great video, I can't wait to get my hands on this wonderful looking kit.
Hope you enjoy it!
I want a couple of these. One to build as done here, and a second one to put the ramp on a Ford truck and put the pickup body on a USA-1 monster truck chassis. Sand off the lower body trim, paint it Caddy pearl white and use the USA-1 decals and it will look great. Kitbashing is a fun part of the hobby.
Enjoy!
loving these vintage style builds!
Thanks for coming along!
@@hpiguy Thanks for making enjoyable content!
I swear I see a new tip or trick on every build you do.
Looks great Chris! Love that blue.
Thanks!
Sure, dangle the minnow in front of the Northern! Great build, may need 2 from the drag strip diorama I'm thinkin. Winter's in WI. ...basement life!
Yeah, more to clean up today but it's been a pretty light winter so far.
Can't wait for this one . Very nice build .can't wait for the next video 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks 👍
It looks just great! You did a great job on it. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you! Cheers!
always glad to see a fellow, lefty!
Haha, enjoy!
I like the way you built this kit. This kit reminds me why I liked MPC kits back in the day. They didn't cost as much as most Revell kits also. Dirt track racing was a big thing in my area and we used to make race cars. We used the plastic that the parts were molded from to build roll cages. Our creations would have look great on the back of your hauler.
Nice memories!
Awesome build Chris. Nice color too. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it!
Awesome job buddy, I love how it came out, man do I enjoy watching your videos we both have fun with your builds it's all about enjoying our hobby..happy modeling...

Another great build-up, nice to see this kit reissued.
I'll have to add another one to my future purchase list, I have the Model king issue that came with the open road camper.
Cool, thanks!
Love it, looks like a rather simple build, but Chris thanks for the build makes me wanna order a couple

Really cool build, Chris! 😁I need a couple of these!. Happy weekend, my friend 😊✌
Thanks, you too!
Great build Chris , just finished detailing that engine on the revell 66 fleetside
Thanks!
Glad to see this re-released. My goal is to restore the kit my dad built in 1970 when he bought his C10 (now mine) new, duplicate my 70, and duplicate the 71 blazer we had when I was growing up.
Thanks for the build - I'm building this kit now, and apparently no one has ever checked the fit of those side mirrors, I'm fighting to correct "the lean" now. A fun build, I'm thinking a Yenko Stinger Corvair will look good on it.
Wow like to see you build more semis
I been wanting to order this kit for my 1972 Bobby Allison Chevy Monte Carlo Coke car i done. That will be a nice go together
Thanks, and enjoy!
Looks great!
Thanks!
Very nice work!👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video Chris, I'll be getting a few to build!!!!!! 👍 👍 👍 👍
Thanks, and enjoy!
Quick & fun ...
words to live by.
Thanks, and enjoy!
You're awesome I am learning a lot from you. Keep it simple is my downfall, I will be changing things up with this one.
I have to get this kit...great job Chris
Thanks, and enjoy!
I cant wait to get mine
Thanks, and enjoy!
Great build! Testors "turn signal amber" looks great on Chevy emblems too, btw. :)
Thank you very much!
That is a must have will look sweet with one of my gassers on the back 👍
Thanks, and enjoy!
That is a great truck.
I love American trucks.
Super build as usual.
Glad you like it!
Cool kit Chris!
Thanks, and enjoy!
As always great build! I have been waiting a long time for this re-issue and I hope there will be more. Just an FYI, the 72s had blue bow ties. 😉
Thanks for the info!
Great job 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I like the way you detailed your models. My dad had a car that was in HotRod Magazine twice and made the cover once. I might have a business deal for you. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Keep up the good work!!!
You make it look so easy..another outstanding job.Ive gotta find this kit somewhere.
Thanks, and enjoy!
modelroundup.com has them coming in.
Looks good. I Might have to purchase this one.
You should!
I finally got one of these the other day so I’m going back and watching the video again. I think I’m going to do it with my grumpys toy on the back of mine, make this the car hauler.
Enjoy!
Nice build!
Glad you think so!
that thing looks sharp can't wait till mine comes in
Thanks!
Superb!
Thanks a lot!
@@hpiguy For you it's easy,but it's a talent,a gift from GOD.
You're good at detailing which many struggle with.
I was looking forward to this one. Love the color! This is a great kit. My wife happened to be here so I pointed to it and told her "Me want that one!" lol. I'll tell you if it worked. :)
LOL Thanks, and enjoy!
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
WOW!!! Nice build. I have two on order now I am thinking I need a few more. I also learned a few new tricks Thank you. One more thing. I am a new subscriber as well. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you!
Hi, I am a new subscriber and half watched a number of your builds.I especially like 5this one.Years ago I was an avid model builder until my young cousin came for a visit and decided that my model cars were just like hot wheels and broke a few.I quit the hobby.now back into it and your videos are a godsend.
Awesome, thank you!
good job honestly
Thanks, and enjoy!
CHRIS+ put your 57 Chevy gasser on the back of that wedge truck that's what will make an exleant. Display
Great video, one thing I would suggest is a video on how you separate the parts from the sprues. I have trouble removing parts from the sprues even with sharp side cutters. Thanks for the tip on colored sharpies!
Noted!
Wow, very Nice 👍👍
Thank you very much!
That came out cool! I foresee lots of people buying this kit for the wedge, using it with their truck of choice, and selling off the remaining stock C10 part or building it separately.
Yup!
Nice!
Thanks!
Great watching today. I built that kit in the 70s. 1972. This video brought back great memories. Thanks for building this kit.👍👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
neat one , on my wish list
Robert
Thanks, and enjoy!
Awesome. I have to get one.
You should!
Great job again Chris, you da man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again!
There’s something about that music that started playing at the 21 mark that is so relaxing to my ears. Anyways , great build Chris !
Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks, and enjoy!
I think I may have to pick this up....make a nice display for another kit. Chris you are the only person I know that could buy testors silver by the gallon and not have it dry up before you used it all...LOL..
You'd be surprised how long those tiny bottles last. I go a few months before I open another.
Got to get one
Thanks, and enjoy!
Hi! Thanks for this video and the others. I did never see a real one of these and I won't see one soon for sure as I am not living in U.S.A. But it looks great as it is the normal thing in your videos. This looks great with the tools and I love tools as I do modelling. I think I'd love to buy mpc and other brands of model car directly, but everything that comes out of U.E. is a pain in the ass to get to me... Please keep posting your models.
Thanks, and enjoy!
I would love to find a 68 chevy truck model kit. The 72 is the closest I have found.
That wedge is really nice. Great job as usual.
Thanks, enjoy!
I’m thrilled to see that kit in its new version that hasn’t been seen since 1972, especially the packaging which I remember from back in the day, the other thing that I would love to see is the camper that they had, I just have to wonder if that would be able to fit this kit, if so it would look spectacular!!!
Hhhmmm 🤔🤔🤔
Yes, that camper truck is a must have.
So cool :)
Thanks!
Awesome build , building my self one right now. But
Building a Lowrider version to carry those show cars around.
That is too cool.
Thanks, and enjoy!
Great Vid. of a great kit Chris, the wait is over - do hope they
chose the right manufacturer so we all can get one though!
Fingers crossed!
Awesome looking wedge! I think it's time to change that filter in your spray booth!!
Good idea!
Way cool.
Thanks, and enjoy!
Great piece everytime I hit 1 of those links i go down a rabbit hole lol
Thanks!
my dad had that truck, the mirror had that problem with his truck, if the mirror was lower he couldn't see behind him
Thanks man!
