C/K is a series of trucks that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1960 to 2002 model years. Marketed by both the Chevrolet and GMC divisions, the C/K series encompassed a wide range of vehicles. While most commonly associated with pickup trucks, the model line also included chassis-cab trucks and medium-duty trucks and served as the basis for GM full-size SUVs. Through its entire production, the model line competed directly against the Ford F-Series and the Dodge D series (later the Dodge Ram pickup).
Used for both the model branding and the internal model code, "C" denoted two-wheel drive; "K" denoted four-wheel drive. Four generations of the model line were produced, including the second-generation "Action Line" and third-generation "Rounded Line" vehicles. For the fourth generation, GMC revised its branding, changing to a singular GMC Sierra nameplate (C/K remained as an internal model code).
As GM entered the 1990s, the company revised its truck ranges, replacing the medium-duty C/K trucks with the Chevrolet Kodiak/GMC TopKick for 1990. For 1999, GM replaced the fourth-generation C/K pickup trucks with an all-new model line; in line with GMC, Chevrolet dropped the C/K nameplate (in favor of a singular Chevrolet Silverado nameplate). Initially marketed with its successor, the final C/K pickup trucks were produced for the 2000 model year. From 2001 to 2002, the final vehicles of the C/K model line were heavy-duty chassis cab trucks.
The fourth-generation C/K was introduced in April 1987 for the 1988 model year. The first line not assigned a generational moniker by General Motors in nearly three decades, it is known by its GMT400 internal codename. Slightly smaller in cab dimensions than the Rounded Line generation, the fourth-generation C/K increased interior space over its predecessor. After trailing Ford and Dodge by over a decade, GM introduced the C/K in an extended-cab configuration. For nearly five years, the fourth-generation C/K was sold alongside its R/V series predecessor, as the crew cab pickup (which served as the basis of the Suburban SUV) was not released until the 1992 model year.
In a branding change, the C/K nomenclature became exclusive to Chevrolet, as all GMC pickups became Sierras (GMC retained the C/K nomenclature for its internal model codes). Chevrolet introduced several specialized variants of the C/K series, including the work-oriented W/T 1500, off-road Z71, and the high-performance 454SS. Between one-ton trucks and medium-duty trucks, Chevrolet and GMC offered the C3500HD chassis cab for commercial use.
For 1995, the fourth-generation C/K underwent a mid-cycle revision, adding a driver-side airbag (dual airbags became standard for 1998). For 1996, the extended cab was redesigned, adding a rear-hinged passenger-side third door.
For the 1999 model year, to accommodate the introduction of the GMT800-chassis Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra, the fourth-generation C/K was renamed as the Chevrolet Silverado Classic and GMC Sierra Classic. After the 2000 model year, C/K pickup trucks were discontinued. GM produced the heavy-duty C3500HD chassis cab as the final version of the C/K model family through the 2002 model year.

I drove a "dually" from Seattle to Detroit. Picked up a 5th wheel extended camper trailer and drove back. It was for a friend. A dually pulling a 5th wheel on the freeway is a nice experience - what the dually was made for. But NEVER mistake an empty one for a sports car - they bite back. This build, while few parts, shows off a dually in the best possible light. Thanks for all the time and talent you invest in each build. See ya next time!

Very nice build of a nice simple kit. The kit looks like a nice kit. I just really wish it was a full kit. Meaning it had an engine, separate exhaust, rear end and front suspension. This kit helps our problem with not having a modern truck, but we still need a modern truck. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Looks great! One tip - draw around the thickness of the headlight lenses with a black Sharpie to represent the gasket or airgap there usually is around headlights. In this era I'd also use superglue for the turn signals and Micro Crystal Clear or white glue for the headlights - the clear/white signal lenses were always a bit more cloudy than the headlight lenses, even brand new.

I'm going to ask a question because I'd like to know how you, a well versed model builder, feels about what we are seeing in the hobby right now....
We are ALL aware that prices can't realistically stay the same on kits BUT, how can a company justify higher prices for kits containing less? There have been so many excellent kits released lately but alot of them are curbside/easy build. How do you feel about having to pay full kit prices for kits thst don't contain full kit parts?
I know they offer a provision to add an engine after the fact but, the fact is, it's still a kit that will never be what a full detail kit can be.
I love this hobby and I can tell by your work, you do too.
I hope this hits the right way because I'm not looking to cause a problem. Im just a fellow builder that's getting a little miffed with where portions of the hobby are heading.

    • @HotWheelsBurban
      @HotWheelsBurban Před rokem +1

Yes , I noticed that too! That's something that the original issue of this kit had(I looked at mine to be sure!) and I can't believe, as nice as the rest of it is, that this got by the QC. Catalytic converter always goes ahead of the muffler, not behind it!
Other than that, it's a really nice kit! I love that they did the instrument cluster and the center stack with radio and HVAC switches as decals. And the more accurate grille, side mirrors, and lights are welcome additions!
That said, I have owned 3 of this era GMT 400(the GM internal designation for this platform, and what the major forum for them is called) and so I have plenty of research material on hand. The dashboard around the instrument cluster and the center stack should be semigloss black, it's actually a VERY dark semi gloss gray. The steering wheel and column are also this color, on all the interior colors. Those are red, blue, tan and gray(the gray is also called "neutral", and is very hard to match! I tried to paint a repair on a cracked dashboard on my Suburban, that's how I know! Careful perusal of military colors may yield better matches; I was trying to mix a color and it didn't work so well. The tan is close to beige, it's much lighter than khaki.
The phantom dually that came out back in the mid 90s had those decals you're talking about, and a tonneau cover too. It also had the GMC style grille, which is the only way to get that piece. The extended cab long bed kit(the teal green snapfast one) had the early (88-93) Chevy grille and interior, and the solid (no windows) camper shell. The Sportside kit had full details under the hood and chassis, as did the 88,89, and 90 annual kits of the long bed regular cab. They all had the TBI 5.0/5.7 small block engine; to get the TBI 7.4 big block, you had to get the 454SS kit. This was the only way to get the short bed fleetside. I liked these kits and had many of them, kitbashed a few to create replicas of friends' trucks. I'm quite happy to see versions of them back out, and hopefully the aftermarket can supply some of the conversion pieces that AMT hasn't made. I agree that a trailer, standard Class 3/4 trailer hitch (frame mounted under the rear bumper) and a fifth wheel/gooseneck hitch would be good parts to accessorize these with! Also running boards or step loops; stock height one tons are tall even in 2wd!
The wheel center caps would be semigloss black on the Cheyenne or Scottsdale trim levels, and chrome on the Silverado. The lug nut covers are black plastic on either cap. Those covers thread onto the lug nuts and are what holds the covers onto the wheels.
All in all, a nice kit for the most part, and I enjoyed watching this build video! It answered some questions about the kit and its updates too. Thanks!

Another painting hint that I forgot about yesterday; the cowl area between the back of the hood and the front of the windshield is made of black plastic, so should be painted semigloss black. The wiper arms and blades should also be semigloss black. I was looking at my vintage '96 dually and I'm amazed by the details of this model. The new retool looks even better! Since I have a '97 Chevy Silverado C3500 crew cab long bed in my driveway, I've got 21' of reference material!
The bucket seats and console in this kit replicate the bucket seats option; these look more like the deluxe leather upholstery.

Interior was molded in gray, while the side mirrors, steering wheel and column, and instrument cluster were molded in a softer black plastic. I SERIOUSLY hate these easy build kits! GREAT subject matter, but I can't stand incomplete kits!! PLEASE, AMT! Start putting engines in your models again!!!

As much as I like the fact it's a dually I will not be buying one until Round 2 starts either charging less for promotional kits, or add the engines to them. Ĥalf of my fun is assembling and painting the engines.

If a model kit doesn’t have a motor it a joke and a waste of time

The engine the interior are the most important part of a model kit
