  • Are you wanting to paint your car or truck car at home? Do you need to repair rust? Restoring a car is a big job. This is the full build video of our 1998 GMC Sierra K1500. We replace cab corners and rockers, fix all the dents, completely repaint it in our garage and then give it a four inch suspension lift by Rough Country including 18" Fuel Rebel Wheels and Mickey Thompson Baja Legend EXP tires.
    Sprayguns used were Sata, Sagola 4600 xtreme , and Devilbiss Prolite S. Harbor Freight stud welder used to pull the dents. Big kid blocks, linear blocking tools sandpaper and Kovax used for bodywork.Angelwax buffing compounds, astro pneumatic mini buffer and Dewalt Rorary buffer to polish the clearcoat. I used a miller welder to weld in the patch panels from lmc truck. Hopefully this helps show you how to paint a car and how to do bodywork! Thanks for watching!

    Son and I just started a 1997 GMC Sierra. I can’t wait to finish it and give it to him for his 16th bday in about 2 years. Truck looks great. Keep up the videos.

    Look FN GREAT! I'd say that nobody could really ask for more.
    I'm getting ready to do a resto job on my 1997 Z71 EXT-CAB 5.7L 4X4. I have a Skyjacker 2"-2.5" lift kit with front lower A-arms & front diff drop bracket. I also have a 3" body lift kit with a pair of RC tubular Nerf bar side steps waiting to go on, that will hide the frame from the body lift. I'm building this as my work truck & play truck for hunting, camping, etc, which is why I chose the kits that I did. To offer more travel & clearance over stock, yet maintain great on road characteristics. Because she will be on asphalt 80% of the time (I work on mine sites).
    With the wheels & tires, I was rotating mass conscientious too! I have aluminum alloy 20x9 wheels with 4.5" back spacing.
    For rubber, I went with Venom Power XTs 275/60/R20 (33" tall × 10.8" wide) witch yields a great ride, responsive but not too rough handling, decent off-road prowess and good MPG, paired up the factory 3.33 rear gear, makes for a fun, yet practical setup.
    Your video has convinced me to do a digi-camo paint job using stencils with a matte clear coat. This should be a bit more forgiving choice all the way around. From painting, to imperfections, scratches, Arizona-pinstriping, dirt & dust, etc. Plus, a large pattern digi-camo will just look tits (I went with black wheels as well).
    You should be proud of that beautiful red Chevy, she's a head turner for sure!
    Thank you for taking the time to make this comprehensive video! It really shows what it takes to make a great paint job in a garage.
    Do you have any other tips for painting over chrome bumpers?

    • @genuinejake9851
      @genuinejake9851  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you and thanks for watching! I like the matte clear. It should be a perfect choice for your project. And it will definitely hide some things a gloss doesn't. Take your time on the chrome make absolutely sure you get it scuffed. Self etch or epoxy primer. I have come to prefer epoxy. Theres a great video on just this topic on Stout Customs channel. He is a great resource. Good luck with your project.

    What would a guy expect to pay for this job, out of curiosity

      I sure don't know. My guess is 10k for a basic rust repair and paint. To have the clear blocked smooth and polished after the "basic" paintjob is time consuming so lots of labor which equals lots of money. Thank you for watching!
